Simon grabbed his shirt and shoved him in the face. Looked like a red to me. Good to see a ref with balls for once. Pappa is a f***wit. Took a disgraceful dive when shoved too.

The laws of the game are clear, the ref had to give Matt Simon a straight red. However the Review can and should take into account the severe provocation he received. so hopefully he will only cop a single match ban.

Capn Gus's description of Pappa is spot on, and hopefully he will cop upwards of 6 matches. Aloisi didn't defend him, in fact quite the opposite. He said that the club would also deal with the matter, so it will be interesting to see the actions taken by Brisbane Roar.

If Ross McCormack is not the best dead ball specialist in the history of the HAL I will be surprised.

On a sad note the reffing/VAR has just imploded to a record low.

Fitzy having a Barry tonight.

Outcome of Independent Match Review Panel: Hyundai A-League Round 8
The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Alan Contini – convened on Monday, 27 November 2017 to consider the below incidents arising in matches in Round 8 of the Hyundai A-League.

Newcastle Jets v Melbourne Victory

The MRP considered an incident involving Mark Milligan (Melbourne Victory) in or around the 29th minute of Melbourne Victory’s Round 8 match against Newcastle Jets on Thursday, 23 November 2017.

The MRP has authority to consider the incident as Milligan was issued with a direct Red Card by the referee. The MRP determined that Milligan committed the offence of serious unsporting conduct and confirmed that Milligan will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.

Melbourne City FC v Perth Glory

The MRP considered an incident involving Osama Malik (Melbourne City FC) in or around the 41st minute of Melbourne City FC’s Round 8 match against Perth Glory on Friday, 24 November 2017.

The MRP has authority to consider the incident as Malik was issued with a direct Red Card by the referee. The MRP determined that Malik committed the offence of serious foul play and confirmed that Malik will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.

Sydney FC v Brisbane Roar FC

The MRP considered two incidents from the match between Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar FC played on Saturday, 25 November 2017.

The first incident involved Avram Papadopoulos of Brisbane Roar FC which arose in or around the 76thminute of the match. The MRP has authority to consider the incident as Papadopoulos was issued with a direct Red Card by the referee.

The MRP regarded the incident as constituting the offence of spitting at a player and has referred the incident to the independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing regarding what sanction should apply over and above the mandatory match suspension (which Papadopoulos must serve against Western Sydney Wanderers FC on Saturday, 2 December 2017).

The independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee hearing date will be confirmed shortly.

The second incident involved Matt Simon of Sydney FC which arose in or around the 76th minute of the match. The MRP has authority to consider the incident as Simon was issued with a direct Red Card by the referee.

The MRP determined that Simon committed the offence of serious unsporting conduct and confirmed that Simon will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.

Adelaide United v Western Sydney Wanderers FC

The MRP considered an incident involving Ben Garuccio (Adelaide United) in or around the 77th minute of Adelaide United’s match against Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday, 26 November 2017.

The MRP has authority to consider the incident as Garuccio was issued with a direct Red Card by the referee. The MRP determined that Garuccio committed the offence of serious foul play and confirmed that Garuccio will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence. So Simon only get's 1 game.

From time to time a few of us on the forum feel that refs consciously give decisions that favour the FFA favourites and against smaller clubs like us.

I'd be interested then in the comments from anyone that watched the Adelaide vs WSW game. IMHO WSW received the worst calls I've seen in several seasons. The second yellow to Cornthwaite, a pen decision against them, and failure to award a penalty to them - all critical calls, all highly debatable (again IMHO) and each one going against the 'FFA favourite'. If it is true that ref's are biased toward the larger clubs, then each of those decisions would have been different.

No ref display will ever be free of errors (the same way that no player's performance ís ever perfect). I agree that the standard of refereeing is poor and needs to improve, but decisions like those in the Adelaide WSW game give the lie to accusations of conscious bias. They were just poor decisions, nothing more and nothing less.

Sorry - but I'm going to take this at a tangent about the VAR with a bit of observation on the similarities of life and football as well.

I have no trouble with the second yellow against Cornthwaite. You have your hand away from body in the box you are asking for trouble. If it was the first yellow people probably wouldn't be complaining. My complaint is the VAR. Without it Cornthwaite stays on - and a whole range of decisions are different on the weekend.

I would like to see proper goal line technology. However, beyond that I am happy for the ref to make mistakes. If a decision in the NRL is overturned on the VAR the result on the game isn't always great as the nature of the game is that it is more high scoring and the better team rarely loses.

In football referees make errors that affect the result. Guess what - that is why there is so much passion in football. It is what makes football so like life. While we often think we control our lives governments and corporations can make decisions that affect us badly, no matter how much we think we are in control of our lives.

Disciplinary and Ethics Committee to meet on Papadopoulos incident
An independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee hearing will be held on Friday, 1 December 2017 at Football Federation Australia’s offices (Level 22, 1 Oxford St, Darlinghurst) commencing at 4:00pm (AEDT) in relation to a matter involving Brisbane Roar FC Player Avram Papadopoulos (Papadopoulos).

The independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee hearing relates to an incident which occurred in or around the 76th minute of Brisbane Roar FC’s Round 8 match against Sydney FC on Saturday, 25 November 2017 involving Papadopoulos.

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP), at a hearing on 27 November 2017, regarded the incident as constituting the offence of spitting at a player and has referred the incident to the independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing regarding what sanction should apply over and above the mandatory match suspension (which Papadopoulos must serve against Western Sydney Wanderers FC on Saturday, 2 December 2017).

The MRP had the authority to consider the incident as Papadopoulos was issued with a direct Red Card by the referee.

Disciplinary and Ethics Committee Hearing: Avram Papadopoulos

The Football Federation Australia (FFA) independent Disciplinary & Ethics Committee comprising John Marshall SC (Chair), Anthony Lo Surdo SC and Robert Wheatley (the Committee) convened to consider an incident referred to it, which arose in or around the 76th minute of Brisbane Roar FC’s Round 8 Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Match against Sydney FC on Saturday, 25 November 2017.

The incident involved Avram Papadopoulos (the Player) of Brisbane Roar FC.

The matter was referred to the Committee by the independent Match Review Panel (MRP).

The MRP had jurisdiction to consider the incident as the Player was issued with a direct red card in the match.

The MRP, having reviewed the incident at a hearing on Monday, 27 November 2017, determined that on the basis of the evidence reviewed the Player had committed the offence of “Spitting at a player” (Offence).

The MRP issued a Disciplinary Notice to the Player and referred the incident to the Committee for hearing as to whether the Offence had been committed, and if so, what sanction should be imposed.

The Committee has reserved their determination.

As Papadopoulos was issued with a direct red card, Papadopoulos must serve a match suspension of at least one match and therefore he is ineligible to play in Brisbane Roar FC’s Hyundai A-League Round 9 match against the Western Sydney Wanderers FC on Saturday, 2 December 2017.

Always wondered about "FFA favouritism" and it's impact. I think the biggest power of influence/soft power on the refs has likely always come from FOX and their pundits 'in group'. Powerful bunch of ex socceroo glitterati strutting around... And once WSW lost their in crowd ex socceroo coach they became much more on the nose...and now they can't get a whistle to go their way... funny that.

Always a pleasure to watch the Scum lose one they should have comfortably won, they had at least 4 genuine chances in the first half hour only to be stopped by some very good keeping then City grew into the game and ultimately taking all points at the end.

Now for us to win and it’s a good round.

Correct, the Fox pundits were giving it to them after last nights display, changing coaches during the season is always a gamble and that’s 3 losses from 3 for Gombau. Players not trying for some reason.

Yep scum blew it. The penalty changed the game. City were more likely to fight themselves then score prior

WSW look toothless. The constant coaching changes and now Gombau’s new System has them lost. Also they don’t look to be the players for the system.
Only one attacker on the bench cost them as well. Riera is class and his injury will hurt till his back

fielding reinforced his standing as the worst ref in the A league ,in this game
the studs ups challenge on jumpa was directly in front of him and not even a yellow card
an earlier hack on bonevacia by matt (protected species ) mackay was equally ignored.

why is this stooge still an a - league referee
