Mariners Squad - HAL 14 - 2018- 2019 - The challenge for Mike Mulvey is over

The trouble with Pain in the middle is that he wants to drift wide and gets in Mellon's way. Hoole is the only (semi) legitimate 10 in the squad. This squad screams 4411 with Hoole in behind

Murray needs a decent run in the side up top.
Yeah I had been thinking this. But like last time he had a chance, with the way we attack, I don’t think he’ll be able to make an impact.

Needs to A) be deployed properly.
B) have a hard working midfield behind him. Hoole f**ks that up
C) he cant rely on crosses - needs a good playmaker feeding him and we don’t have one

Tommy wants to stay and will sign for next season IF the current management and coaching staff are no longer here. He will not sign under the current set up .
Pearce was left out for disciplinary reasons for a non football related incident at Terrigal.
Nisbet has only been offered a scholarship for next season - not the full contract he was promised by Mulvey.
Nisbet, Kekeris and Gauci were all ordered to play in the NPL pre season game v Wanderers yesterday on the premise that would possibly be starting v Wellington in two weeks and none of them had had any recent game time.

Tommy does not get to choose who his coach is and i highly doubt he is stupid or bold enough to make such demands. It sounds like another political and farfetched offering from our very occasional poster Pinklady.

EDIT....just had it confirmed the club have not offered Tommy a contract as of today (f**k you Vulvey!!!) and Pink Lady's claims about the coaching staff is an absolute lie.

I do not think Pink Lady's and Wombat's statements are necessarily mutually exclusive.

How about this as a probable situation:
Tom wants to stay with the Club.
Tom has not been offered a contract.
If Tom is offered a contract he will only sign if Mulvey is gone.

That is EXACTLY the situation. At no time did I say or mean to infer that Tom was making demands regarding the coaching staff - just that he wouldn't stay if the current coaches were still there.

As for my political far fetched offerings - I am not sure what is political about stating FACTS. I am sorry if there is something you dislike in my posts but the reason why I do not post something every day is that I only do so when I see that there is something that is the subject of hearsay and speculation that I am able to cast some light on.

Or Tom realises that it is Mulvey (and Monty I hear) who dont want him and another coach is likely to offer a deal
Monty being one of the flies in the ointment hadn't occurred to me, but seems logical looking at it. Monty & Hutch were hard-bodied men in defence more skillful than Melling but similar mould, whereas Tom is not.

And this is the reason we need to make a statement of intent now!! A decision on Mulvey has to be made now!! We have new investors, Charlesworth said he would invest more heavily in the squad with an independent league which is supposed to come in - this is the make or break year.

If Mulvey stays he needs to be given money for a Bobo level or above marquee that we identify and do the groundwork for now. If MM doesn't stay we can't afford another training wheels manager from Australia so I suggest that they will be from OS as well.

If we show intent now attracting and retaining players becomes easier. If we wait until after the season we will be the last team players will look to unless we pay them over their worth and waste the cap space.

Maybe a misrepresentation or getting ahead of reality. Anton - the new Director has put some money in before he was a director in and around the Academy I believe. He is net worth is multiple times that of Charlesworth. Yet to see what money he has put in now but extra money for the squad and finishing the COE should be easier to come by.

. yeah from my understanding ... and reading between the lines a little:
  • the value of investment is more like a 'sponsorship' ... at the moment
  • has essentially bought AT and KK a seat on the board, not a substantial 'shareholding'
  • i.e. not much of an 'investment'
  • MC wants these two for their money connections
. maybe [and this is a real punt] MC has sold the independent league (dream?) to them ... and that may see a change in the level of investment ? ? ?

. ah, yes ... but can we afford to keep him? :headbutt:

This will be our problem for the next few years (if we survive) as we churn through players. We will continue to overpay just to have a roster because no one wants to play here.

The Aspro situation is another where a trigger clause might have been prudent. Play a certain number of games and your contract goes to two years.

Charlesworth's first priority, if he cares, is to get the football department in order. Having a director who is on the other side of the world, with little interest in the club, is just plain wrong.

Makes sense that others would be after him, hopefully we put in a good offer and he feels some loyalty after we got him fit again. The uncertainty must be hard for the players even if they want to stick around - we've picked up the spoon, either need to boot the coach or somehow sell the players on the idea that next year will be different under the same bloke and need to convince them that Charlesworth will invest in a competitive squad. That's a lot of faith required when you're being chased by a successful club or new franchise who just dropped a load of cash to join the comp.
