He's coming for a trial. In the meantime, Mulvey and co will still be finalising the remainder of the squad.

If (HUGE if) he successfully trials and earns a place, sponsors/Fox etc will foot the bill for the lions share of his contract.

I don't think his presence means we dont sign a reliable striker. We still have the cap space

. i think visa spots is the main concern for most people - not funding or cap space (which are both separate issues)

We already swooped on simon and weemac ........... nice yellow weemac scored against adelaide. No shots on goal, no saves for adelaide keeper but there’s plenty of season left yet for our striker to strike .

I don’t think it would ........... even if the gate was trebled or quadrupled it wouldn’t match a marquee cost. Keeping in mind that the marquee would have to carry the rest of the npl squad .............. losses are still the likely result even though we will have culture .......... other teams have as well and much more than two players .

I think the ONLY marquee that could be put into this squad that MAY pay for himself is Bolt.

Honda may be an excellent footballer, and potentially be the most talented marquee in A league history (at the time), but outside of the footballing community, no-one knows who he is. Bolt transcends that, and the 'general public' have a lot more bums to put on seats than the hardcore football fans.

Couldn't agree more. You could probably count the number of players with that kind of general public pulling power with two hands and there's zero chance of the A league affording any of them. As a marketing exercise for CCM and the league Bolt is almost unbeatable bang for your buck. But we need to make sure we can deliver performances to capitalise on that attention.
