Just watched the replay and my love of Dan Hall increases.

It was injury time and he just played a full game. Urena lobs the ball to Hatch and Hall made a full field run to be in support Hatch. He was also first there to celebrate Hatch’s goal.

The guy is just pure enthusiasm and team work.
My main problem with Hall is he sometimes overplays his hand when on or near the ball and had to hack a clearance. It is a problem the team broadly has but he has nearly cost us a few times this yr.

Its just a composure thing. As you see RT and Kye not get into that position or have the composure to flick a pass off.

11 freezes and counting by paramount + …well done APL you f**king cheapskates ???
I ended up with 20 freezes in the first half and none in the second, how the f*k does that work?
so what happens when simon comes back.
I think Matty will be happy just coming off the bench after his neck injury.
For a while at least...

So without Bozanic playing we seem to play a lot better?

discuss
Pre the covid outbreak, we were doing just fine with Oli and either Steele or Ballard in midfield. Post covid, Oli has been carrying our midfield. By the time Monty moved Niz back there to fix the problem, Oli was running on empty. A rejuvenated Oli will go a lot better alongside either Niz or Ballard now that they are both in form and playing with confidence.

Anybody know why he wasn't in the squad yesterday - I thought he was just being rested last week?

Adelaide looked more likely early on but we had a couple of decent chances and should have had a penalty. After the send off we looked in total control but still were playing dumb Football.
I called for Storm and Beni to be subbed and thankfully it happened very quickly and once Miller was on we started to really apply some pressure.

Urena 3pts. Superb 1st goal and the ball for Cummings was pure class.
Miller 2pts. That 30 Min cameo was sumptuous.
Niz 1pt. Perpertual motion but smart with the ball too. Just wish he had the confidence to shoot too.

Windust....lovely debut. 100% AL quality.
Bay 16......sorry we dogged you at half time due to the rain but you guys were superb.
I would swap Nizzy and Miller around.

Nizz controlled everything and was the only one who looked like unlocking them. He was excellent if Urena hadn’t scored and got two assists Niz would have been MOM.

Miller was good and nice and controlled. Didn’t over play or try to much. Him and Hatch were good together. Better than Roux and Beni

@Wombat well I’ll be damned, we saw pigs fly. 52min and Roux tracks back and is goal side and a dangerous cross comes over and Roux actually defends it perfectly and forces the AU player to push him in the back and we get the foul. This is the sloppy play for years we have been doing and conceed to. Finally he does what is required.

Then Farrell does similar when he had his head clash. He stuck to his man on the back post perfectly but also reads the play and reacts to stop a potential Mariners meltdown.

Two game winning plays that probably go unnoticed but both have a penchant for being caught ball watching and if either of those weren’t stopped we might be fuming again.

I am in the Olli would have helped us control the ball movement from side to side better and had a couple of shots.

Ballard was meh. Steady but very unsure of himself and what to do against the defense. A couple of times AU pressed him and forced panic and him to pass back because they knew he was a potential weak link. Nizzy they backed off and held there line

I have thought that a couple of times but suspect that age may be catching up with him a bit to be effective on the wing. Could be worth a try off the bench or starting and being replaced early.
Definite possibility. Ballard is coming along nicely.
I think Smith may now own one of the wing positions.
this is definitely the conundrum of the year . i think olli will go back to the bench and
be used as a super sub that cover's 10 , CB , DM .
im also very happy with smithy . a few times he was in gapping space and we didn't pass to
him

Monty has a difficult job.
All the players that have been brought up from the NPL2 squad have blossomed.
Monty`s skill though has been his timing in bringing them into games.
Players like Windust and Bayliss have have great transitions into the side mid season.
Balard, Steele and Farrell and Hall are now cementing there places in the top team, whilst Smith and Hatch are having a huge impact when they play.
It`s a glorious time to be a young player at the Mariner`s.
It was interesting to hear Smith say that he knew if he came here that there would be opportunities for him.
Games aside it been a great season for preparing the new generation of Mariners kids...

I wonder what the record is for players 23 years old and under featuring in a match?

Last night maybe we had 11 players that made the pitch 23 years old or lower.
Didn't Gold Coast play their entire youth team for a couple of games in their dying days?

It has barely rated a mention outside of the coast, but the number of Academy graduates we have had on the field in most games this season must smash all records out of the park. You could pick a decent starting XI and have a few subs as well, from academy graduates (or current players) that have played this season. There would be a complete w**kfest on KeepUp if any of the more favoured clubs were achieving anything remotely close to that

Nah, this was a weakened Adelaide side down to 10, things could have been very different in the middle of the pitch without that. I see Oli coming back in with Nizzy in the middle under instruction to play a certain way. If there’s issues behind the scenes or he won’t play that way then bench him. The boys from last week (mostly) deserved to keep their spot but I don’t think that’s our strongest line up as long as the players coming back in will fall in to the style we played

we were already getting on top of them before the send off . we have now twice played better .
than everything after new years . there is no way ballard gets dropped after that .
next week we play , no soul melbourne ballard deserves to start

No arguments that we’ve played better and more positive. Next week we start a pretty solid run of games beginning with second place then the team directly above us on the ladder. Squad management and rotation will be key.
