EDIT: found the article

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson is set for a summer capture of FC Nuremberg's central defender Matthew Spiranovic, according to News of the World.

The young Australian, of Croatian descent, has reportedly impressed Hodgson over the course of the season, and the former Inter Milan manager is set to make a move for him during the summer transfer window.

The Cottagers boss is looking to strengthen his side ahead of the new season, when they will also compete in the Europa League.

The European run may mean an extra 19 games for the club, so Hodgson is desperate to bolster his squad in time for the new campaign.

The European qualification for the club will no doubt attract Spiranovic, who is reportedly keen on a move.

The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of Australia's hottest prospects, and has already made his way into the country's international set-up.

The former Melbourne Knights youth player is set to cost the Cottagers around 1 million, and is thought to be the first of a few new players to arrive at Craven Cottage.

Spiranovic has been playing for Nuremberg since 2006, and has since made 25 league appearances, without scoring, and also has two international caps to his name.

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Kaka from AC Milan on a six-year contract.

The Spanish giants confirmed the eagerly-awaited capture of the 27-year-old Brazilian superstar in a brief statement on their website late on Monday night.

Kaka, currently on international duty with Brazil in his homeland, underwent a medical in Recife earlier on Monday before putting pen to paper on a six-year deal.

The transfer fee is expected to be new world record at around 56million, eclipsing the 48million Real paid Juventus for Zinedine Zidane in the summer of 2001.

Kaka is expected to be unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu towards the end of this month, once he's finished Confederations Cup duty with his country in South Africa.

A statement on the Milan website meanwhile read: "From next season, Kaka will play at Real Madrid.

"AC Milan thanked the man and the great champion Kaka for his decisive contribution to the many victories achieved in the six years of his commitment

"The loss technique, while serious, can be remedied.

"It will be very difficult to fill the void that will be left by Kak, a shining example of professionalism, commitment and professionalism.

"AC Milan, (according to) the wishes of the managers, players and supporters of the Rossoneri, offer him the most cordial and affectionate wishes for the continuation of his sporting career."

Now Real have concluded their first major piece of business this summer, president Florentino Perez is expected to turn his attentions to a concerted bid to prise Cristiano Ronaldo away from Manchester United.

didnt fabregas sign for 8 years...
the main issue (which I you are probably thinking of...) is his age
27- will take him to 33, although he is in a similar status to zidane- who managed that for madrid + France.

Moreso such a long deal in the current climate and all that.... not to mention the wage bill.

Or some c**t breaks his leg six months in and he does a Mrdja for the next 5 and a half years!

There is always that.  Ask Fossie though, Spain is too silky smooth and beautiful and technically "world clarsh" for those sorts of shenannigans.  ;)

Who wants to cherry pick from Real Betis' squad following their expensive relegation? Some rather good players in there mind you.

Perhaps Manuel Ruiz de Lopera can write a Guide to Premium Relegations. He's "accomplished" it twice... ::)

It would be good for Spiranovic to sign with Fulham. As a defender he can then work with Schwarzer closer ,which will press his claims for a Socceroos berth.

Sound advice from football365:

"A word of warning to all those numpties who will no doubt be replacing their LA Galaxy Beckham shirts this summer with a Real Madrid Kak one.

Insist on the accent over the second A otherwise it simply means 'shit' in Spanish."

;D

ITS FINALLY OFFICIAL RONALDO TO MADRID

Manchester United have accepted an 80million bid from Real Madrid for Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has long been a target for the Spanish giants, whose president Florentino Perez vowed earlier this week to do "everything possible" to take the 24-year-old to the Bernabeu.

A statement on United's webiste, under the headline 'Reds accept 80m Ronaldo bid', read: "Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of 80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid."

The statement continued: "At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

"Matters are expected to be concluded by 30 June. The club will not comment until further notice."

The news is bound to be greeted with some scepticism by United fans who have repeatedly been told no deal had been agreed for the sale of FIFA's world player of the year in the face of regular statements from Spain the former Sporting Lisbon star was bound for the Bernabeu.

It was even suggested Ronaldo would be due a 20million compensation fee from Real if the deal did not go through by June 30, the date United now state themselves is when they expect matters to be concluded.

As it now seems a matter of when, rather than if a world record transfer will be completed, Sir Alex Ferguson might wish to explain why he has gone back on his famous comment in December last year that he would not "sell that mob a virus".

It is the first time for many years United would have allowed a player to leave they were not happy about losing.

Yet some supporters may be pleased that at least another drawn-out transfer saga, such as the one 12 months ago, is not played out in public.

And, at least the money could be reinvested in a squad that almost, but not quite proved good enough to win back-to-back Champions League trophies, in addition to a hat-trick of Premier League titles.

sad to see him go but oh well this is football
its also on man utd website so its definitly confirmed
