Isn't Porter quite decent at the free kicks??

exceptional

Pedj scored 3 bombs in pre-season, I was lucky enough to see 1 of them.  He'll get 1 this year especially if he gets 3 opportunities every game like he had yesterday.

That was awesome. I reckon Lawrie bowled one straight down middle stump last night and all the boys stood right the f*ck up. They defended very well for a side who imo have been defensively very suspect for a while now.

Now all we need is 4 draws this weekend  ;)

hehe ....... that WOULD be good!  :headbounce:

or the very least 1 goal wins...

Yes, think there will be a couple of those .... cast off?

Yep cast is off thankfully. I still have to wear a removable (robo boot) velcro cast until the end of the month though to allow the knitting bone  to strengthen a bit more as the break is still very visable in the x-ray.

Well, don't start jumping up and down if the Mariners thump the Jest next week, lol

Great performance.

Yes we were lucky with the goals but the formation was 4-5-1 no matter what Lawrie says so he was looking for a draw or to poach a goal and defend like hell.
We got 2 and then shut up shop.  The defence was magnificent all over the park and we were too organised and disciplined for MV to break us down.  Doig has earned his corn for the season after seeing a shambolic defence for last 2 years suddenly look so assured with him organising the show.  Suddenly Wilko is looking quality again.

Vuko  6.5.  Clean sheet but didn't dominate the box.
Boogs    7.5.  Very solid and looked skillful going foward.
Heff      7.0.  Good job and attacked well at times. Much more solid.
Wilko    8.5.  Excellent.  Joint MOM with Pedj.
  Doig    8.0.  Top Game.
Porter    7.0.  Worked hard.
Pedj      8.5.  Top game.  Was everywhere.
Hutcho    8.0    Good solid game. Vast improvement.
McGlinchey 7.5.  Great link and showed nice quality.  Exciting prospect.
Kwassie  7.0      Worked his arse off and made a couple of brilliant tackles but did give the ball away cheaply twice.
Simon.  8.0.    This boy is looking so good now. Holds the ball up nicely at first touch is excellent.

All the subs did excellent job but would have brought Travis on a bit earlier.

Top marks Lawrie you outsmarted Merrick and well done to the coaching staff.

BRING ON THE SCUM!

Yes, my right leg seemed to have a life of its own when I watched the CCM v MV game the other night ... a few air swings especially when kwas got the ball ... my family pretend not to know me and tend to sit elsewhere ....  ::)

. hunger! ... we seemed to have some! don't know if it was the acl, '09 hal, being written off or simply competition for spots

. generally the boys were relentless, something we haven't seen since jedi left (and that was just him, this was the whole team). it is something we had come to expect from our boys but had gone missing in recent times

. can't say that we controlled play (or even controlled the ball that well) but the way we played definitely influenced the outcome of the match

. well done i say

Match day preview.... http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,25891678-5000940,00.html

Fox Sports commentator Simon Hill casts his eye over round one of the A-League as the much-anticipated season kicks off with a bang.

Melbourne Victory v Central Coast Mariners, Friday 8pm (EST), Etihad Stadium

Simon says: Melbourne are the defending champions and would have to be favoured in front of a big home crowd. The Mariners are unbeaten in pre-season, but cant escape the fact they havent won a competitive game in 2009. The acquisition of Chris Doig should sort out some of the Mariners defensive deficiencies and he will be one of the key men on Thursday night. But the real key to the match will be how Carlos Hernandez fares for the Victory. His form was superb towards the back end of last season and if hes on it could be a long night for the Mariners. Melbourne to win quite comfortably.
