ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

You have to have either have played 75% of recent national team matches or have a EU-Passport to play in England unless you can prove to home office that it is of national importnace.

Kaz Patfta will most likely go back to Benfica but he has Freddy Adu infornt of him so maybe loan him back out.

Not tommy Victory have gumps or mcandrew but for god's sake NOT TOMMY!!!!!!

I wont have anyone else to love :(

true that didnt think of that, arent some countries easier than others though? I mean Josh Kennedy and Meggsy got into Germany without any hassles, UK is notoriously difficult but Germany may be an option

Kennedy is of Irish descent and Meggsy is French I think

I suspect the 'French' connection for Meggsi is about 1066AD.

Well the list of foreign descended australian players on wikipedia gives Beauchamp french nationality. Might be right, might be wrong

When Tommy is fit he is our Cahill. Instrumental on and off the ball. We can't let him go.

Ive listed some players that are possibilities for the position of attacking midfielder for the mariners. They are players that are either playing for us, linked to us or have or will come off contract soon. Ive given reasons why we will sign them (use them as an attacking mid), why we wont and a rating on likelyhood us signing them IMO, whether they would be an exact swap Tommy if he was to go to Melbourne and my own choice rating.

Tommy Pondeljak
Why he will sign for us: He is the incumbent number 1 in that position. He is well liked by Lawrie and the club and the marinators. Im certain he is the choice playmaker of the sponsors and board as well. He almost cracked the socceroos again and the sponsors will like that.
Why he wont sign for us: Most of us hate to think about it but he is getting old plus he is an expensive player to keep and with the team trying to keep Danny, Aloisi as well as signing Jedi, Hutch and Boogs to new deals (assuming massive payrises) he might just prove too expensive. We also have a packed midfield and may choose to play elsewhere.

Likelyhood of signing: 8/10, Exact Swap 10/10 (he is tommy duh), My Choice 10/10

Ty Owens
Why he will sign for us: Young player ,who is potentially a massive asset to club for the future. Would inject fresh blood into our attack. Would be on a salary that would be close to nothing (but for how long?). Family contacts go a long way. Lawrie would be worried about losing Ty to another club (though not the scum :)).
Why he wont sign for us: Ty Owens will be an A league player one day, more likely than not, a mariner, but the only issue that Lawrie may have with him would be whether or not he thinks Ty would be ready for the A league at the young age of 17 (That would make him the youngest player in the league I think) and more importantly Lawrie might not want to use him as a first choice attacking mid at this age. IMO he would be a gamble for Lawrie but might pay huge divideds.

Likelyhood: 5/10, Exact swap: Dont know, My choice: probably 8/10

Kaz Patafta
Why he will sign for us: It would be a short term loan deal from Benfica, but may not be included in their plans for the next year considering Freddy Adu. The amount of game time he got from Melbourne is IMO detrimental to his development as a player and Kaz as well as Benefica might want better for him. I believe he would get that opportunity at the mariners if Tommy was to go to Melbourne as Caceres, Kwasnik and Greg Owens are better as wide players and Jedi, Porter and McAndrew are defensive and Hutch is both IMO.
Why he wont sign for us: His loan in Australia will come to an end eventually and he might have to return to Benefica next season. He, like Tommy, may already see that we are packed in the midfield and avoid us like the pox due to the limited chance of a playing opportunity. Anyhow I just dont see him as a likely choice somehow. A Loan deal means Lawrie cant plan for the long term

Likelyhood: 3/10, Exact Swap: 8/10, My Choice 7/10

Kristian Sarkies
Why he will sign for us: Young player who seems reasonably stable in Australia (very little chance he will go overseas IMO). Is an out and out attacking mid i.e. direct swap for Tommy IMO. Some international experience. Will have 2 seasons of ACL under his belt
Why he wont sign for us: Pretty bad dead-ball specialist IMO and that is his major selling point. I dont think he will fit into Lawries no dickhead policy and He will probably demand more than he is worth. Probably stay with Adelaide as well

Likelyhood: 4/10, Exact Swap: 9/10, My Choice 4/10

James Holland
Why he will sign for us: There is speculation that he is only at the scum this year to get game time and that he will return when opportunities become avaliable here.
Why he wont sign for us: Under contract from Newcastle for 2 years. Would be demanding way too much money. Clear violation of Lawries no-dickhead policy. Possible fears for his personal safety etc.

Likelyhood: 2/10, Exact Swap: 7/10, My Choice 0/10

What about:
Greg Owens, John Hutchinson, Adrian Caceres or maybe even Brad Porter. I believe the most likely situation if Tommy was to leave the mariners would be that one or more of these players would be repositioned to be our new centre attacking midfielder. For me the Jury is out on all of these players but if I had to choose between them it would probably be Hutch.

Skilbeck, signing out on his longest ever post: the brainwave I had driving back from scumville tonight :p. Your thoughts people?

I dont believe the best way of replace an old player is with an even older player. I also ruled Marcinho and Felipe out because I believe they are shit.

cos we don't need a player smashing them into bay 16 on a regular basis

Aloisi and AT
Nik and AT
Sash and At

Either combo would be the best strike force in the league IMHO. The top 2 would be incredible.
The top one, mouthwatering

Not disagreeing - but remember this Old player is still playing at the top level. It was a bit of a joke to suggest it.

I'd have Juninho but he'd be asking way too much....

Fact is it would be great to have an attacking midfielder who can get the ball to our up front guys. Look at Brosque - he's crap without Juninho - imagine what someone like him could do with our upfront guys....

Brosque is just crap - he plays for a side that has 1 tactic.

Get ball, hoof up middle, hope Brosque can get a 1:1

Trouble is, his nerve fails in 1:1's

Wide in 433 he might go ok but SFC dont have the players

Remember the other day in socceroo camp how Ernie Merrick was making some very flattering remarks about Tommy? (Not that they're not due) however at the time I did go wow thats a bit odd, must be because he's a Melbourne boy originally. Now I'm sure it was with another agenda in mind. I'm hoping that with Hutch staying on as both another melb boy and good friends with Tommy that it may help keep him also...

No thoughts.  No trades.  He's not going anywhere, end of story.  I'd cry too much if he did.  :p

Well yeah that would be my first option,
but if he had to trade no questions.
those would be my players

You would "possibly" trade Tommy for Talay or Santalab!! are you feeling ok mate  ;)

Talay broke heffo's leg and Santalab spends more time on his hair than on the field
