Mariners Sign Macallister

It's hard to get any real excitement from his signing.

His goal scoring record in Europe is very average at best.

Without a fit Mrdja it still looks pretty thin up front to me.

I guess we should trust Lawrie's judgement. He doesn't get it wrong too often.

Bit "ho hum" about this really.

So we have just signed a big tall lad who cant score goals..................

Either an inspired signing of a big tall ball winner who will get onto the end of wicked crosses from Elrich and Caceres.........or not

Decent enough signing.

Still need more strikers though.

What are we gonna be playing 2-3-5 next season? I didnt think that formation had been used since the 1940's

Remembering we don't have Nik signed up yet, do you think that Simon, Sasho and MacAllister are good enough? I know I don't.

i dont think its enough either, losing Aloi$i and gaining Maccalister isnt a like for like swap - but what other options are out there i guess

Interesting to note the CCM site says he's been given #11... Pretty much confirmation Brown is gone?
What's doing...    If you go into the player profile for Mcallister now, his number has been changed to -1

I reckon another striker signing on top of Mrdja would mean that Simon and Macallister are wasted squad positions

How many people (apart from old spirit fans) have really seen him play? I know I havn't, but trust Lawries judgement.

I know for a fact that the players rate Macca as a good signing, and that he has improved over the past few years, he trained with us on a few occasions last season!

A tall striker who can hopefully get on the end of our wingers balls in is exactly what we need, we have never really been good in the air in the final third IMO.

Give him half a season before slagging the boy off FFS

i'm just concerned about the goals - we'd want to be seeing at least 5 a season i'd have thought, and with our crossing last season i wouldn't bet a whole lot on us finding his head...

Well this season we have signed 2 new players to do the crossing ;)

I'm pretty confident he will score the goals for us. Like someone has said, he's only 25 he's got the best of his career to come hopefully that starts now :p

Also maybe we can use him in a playmaking role? *shrugs*

i bet if he comes over and scores 8 goals(just a random number) you would be like who bagged him out. also LM could preduce a spark in the youngin which could see him score more goals

nah i reckon if we dont make a new attacking mid signing Owens, Hutch, Porter, Caceres and Elrich will be playmakers over Macallister. I think Macallister is purely a target man

I remember watching him when i was an impressionable youngster and he impressed me.
I'm optimistic about the signing

He did not get consistent game time overseas. So his scoring rates are not very fair regardless.
I think he will do well. If only to push sash and nik to work their asses off, and to make simon realise he has to do something, otherwise he wont get thrown on simply because sash is tired, or nik is injured

Plus the Norwegian league would be of a higher standard than the A-League as well.

He wouldn't have signed if he didn't impress the coaching staff last season in his trials either.

Could be a very underrated signing IMO.
