the 2nd day was nearly a copy of the 1st one.

Austria lost against Croatia 1:0 but was the better team, especially in the 2nd half.

Germany won 2:0 against a weak Poland. Polish born Podolski scored twice but it could have been 3:0 or 4:0 easily.
croatia were very ordinary lucky they got the win cos i have them as part of my massive multibet atm of teams to get through qualifying stage

So am I right in believing thats the first win for Germany in a Euro tournament since 1996?

Romania 0, France 0.

_RUBBISH_ game.  A perfect example of why deploying two DM's on both sides is a horrible idea.

Anyone else here have Setanta??  Have you noticed that we're getting the BBC feed for the first game and the ITV feed for the second??  I've got to say that I prefer the ITV feed by far...... the commentary by the BBC pundits (and the actual match commentary) is poor.  Indescribably, ridiculously poor.  It's a constant "oh, if this guy was playing for England", and "if England did this".  Hey, Alan Shearer, newsflash - ENGLAND DIDN'T MAKE IT, GET OVER IT!!!!  Concentrate on the 16 teams that _are_ there, two of whom were superior to your beloved "In-ger-lund" in qualifying.

ITV on the other hand??  Succinct, professional, and if I'm not mistaken, in High Definition.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

On the subject of Spain winning NOTHING, haven't they been Olympic Football Gold Medallists? Was it in Barca (I think so, as I think Nigeria won in Hotlanta and Cameroon at Stadium Australia)?

It would be great to see Spain play Portugal in the final, but, I just feel that Germany or Italy will make the final, as they are both so organised at the back.

I would personally like to see the Dutch win it by playing total football.

BBC Commentary is ordinary, Martin Tyler is so far superior than all of them (honourable mention John Motson) that it is not funny.

Our own Simon Hill more than holds his own as a commentator, ESPECIALLY as he is laden with Slater & Harper (except when Harper forgets his Sydney bias and rips in, eg, on the subject of the diabolical surface at Lang Park, ".. they charge like wounded bulls for the stadium and present this dungheap").

Gotta say, the thought of the Spanish national team winning a gold medal in Catalan-land is kinda funny......

Okay, there's offside - there's doubly offside, and then there was that.  Wait until you all see van Nistelrooy's goal.  A solid 2 metres offside, at _least_.

Netherlands 1, Italy 0, 26th minute.

Serious why do you think us Jocks moved over here........we had to listen to that shit all the time! ;D
Holland, superb football, devastating on the counter attack and great to see a dodgy decision go against Italy.
France, once again when they come up against a team with lesser ability who are not prepared to roll over for them they go missing.A team with lots of talent and no heart.

Arab - I assume it was because of the better weather and hotter women??  ;)

Re: the offside goal by van Nistelrooy - seems that the linesman was interpreting it to the letter  of the law, as follows:

Law 11.11
"A defender who leaves the field during the course of play and does not immediately return must still be considered in determining where the second to last defender is for the purpose of judging which attackers are in an offside position.

Such a defender is considered to be on the touch line or goal line closest to his or her off-field position. A defender who leaves the field with the referee's permission (and who thus requires the referee's permission to return) is not included in determining offside position."

Have a look at it on the replays/YouTube/uefa.com, let me know what y'all reckon.  Having read that law and read around a bit, seems it might have been an epically correct call under pressure.  Very interesting.

i couldn't believe it this morning but after reading that rule (which i've never seen used before) it seems that the decision is technically correct...that linesman has balls :p

Anyway glad to see italy lose but disappointed the french played so bad...italy better get knocked out can't stand them

ps Sneijder's goal was best ever play

My bet on Van Nistelrooy being top scorer is looking ok atm aswell.

I didn't even know that law and im a referee. Very interesting and kudos must go to that ref.

BBC post match "analysis" is absolutely shocking. ITV's high definition is pretty swish i must say.
