It is interesting to read that Giles Barnes has had his contract with Derby, cancelled by mutual consent.
He has constant injury problems and Derby have offered him the opportunity to find another club.

Few months in the sun, injury ravaged, on the scrapheap at a young age. He sounds ideal for us and we could do a lot lot worse (shame we couldnt afford him though)

just noticed that adam griffiths is keen on a return to the a-league after leaving his saudi club. With the gold coast roster being full and them currently being audited by FFA over the salary cap maybe some1 the mariners might be interested in??

Very solid defender. Don;t think he has a lot of love for us, and Miron would be keen to  get him back and dump a dodgy brazilian or two I'd think.

We wouldn't give him his wage demands

Takes a while to come back form serious injury.
And also there is Crowell Pedj and Hutch who are also DM's...
Our midfield is competitive to get a look in on.

There has been some talk that we may lose a couple of world cup aspirants in the January window.

Just read in the SMH that the English Championship window remains open until 23 March and similar windows occur in Norway, Sweden and the US.

Ah yes, bit slow on that one, just thinking Oz...

It would makes sense of his lesser form since roughly the Bahrain game...
But haven't the kiwis already lined up a tour of friendlies to ensure their team are playing quality regular football - specifically to solve the problem we are now facing?

Seem to remember fox commentators asking why the FFA hadn't done the same thing?

So fingers crossed, the Weeman will not be soon departing.

'We' aren't facing a problem; only Moore (sadly after his display against GC) and Cullina and poss Sterjovski are likely to make any worthwhile contribution to the squad, even Coyne and Burns are rank outsiders to make it and any other A league player who makes the cut is very unlikley to play in any matches. To suggest the Socceroos schedule friendlies to accomodate three players is laughable and Pim has made it quite clear he won't have a bar of it.

Lol, tell that to Perth fans.
Also think Danny has a genuine chance still - unlike many others named in the halaroos  -
But ultimate likely selection or not, there are still...

Alex Brosque
Jacob Burns
Simon Colosimo
Jason Culina
Eugene Galekovic
Scott Jamieson
Matthew Kemp
Matthew McKay
Craig Moore
Tommy Oar
Mile Sterjovski
Archie Thompson
Matthew Thompson
Tando Velaphi
Danny Vukovic

Not to mention even a few others like Heff, Coyne, Bridge and even, Matty S for example who still may have aspirations... and thats the key word I think...

Even with only a very slim chance with a dream prize like go to the WC - they will have aspirations.... and to be fair, even if they don't go anywhere, there thoughts about should they have/could they have, and what if they did... can still majorly distract.

I think its a pretty reasonable assumption that this is a significant impact on the league. Also fringe OS players like Nicky Carle or Nikita, who may be unable to get much game time with their club, may be able to get releases to go on such a tour and prove their worth.

More importantly it would have been a guaranteed solution for "all" aspirants - knowing if Pims still interested in you at the end of the season, then you'll be selected in the tour team, taking care  of your playing problem and also allowing that you can just focus on what's before you, and not whether you should have moved and whether it might have made the difference to you getting to play in a WC.

Sounded fair enough to me. And to be fair to someone like Brosque, being told you need to go, and being told you cant - would not make for an easy time.

And for the kiwis... this situation/ "problem" ;) was avoidable.

Schwarzer; Wilkshire, Moore, Neil, Chipperfield; Emerton, Cullina, Grella, Bresciano; Cahill, Kewell.
Williams, Kisnorbo, Milligan, Carney; Sterjovski, Valeri, Jedinak, Garcia, Holman, Kennedy, MacDonald, Vidosic, Spiranovic, Ruka, Carle - not many of these will miss out (might have forgotten some others); Goalkeeper is the most open so Vukovic, who has yet to play for the Socceroos, may consider himself a chance but the pecking order is Schwarzer, Daylight and then A.N. Other (Federici, Jones (no), Petkovic, Covic, Galekovic...).

Pim made it clear that players have to be playing (likely exceptions Moore and Cullina) otherwise they won't be selected so that rules out most A League players; even going on loan doesn't guarantee game time. Its the FFA who have stuffed up with the scheduling.

Michael Baird is back in the country. Been trialling with Adelaide and trying to get a release from his Romanian club. Good enough to be a 2nd / 3rd striker for next season?

Or even short term signing to hit the back of the net? Someone fresh may help us?
