Burns to trail with SK Brann in Norway

OLYROOS Nathan Burns is off on a trial that could see him join Socceroo Michael Thwaite at his new Norwegian club, SK Brann.
Adelaide United this afternoon confirmed Burns had been invited for the 10 day trial with the Norwegian champions.

Burns flew out of Adelaide late this afternoon bound for Norway looking to impress the Norwegian club.

Burns will return in 10 days to join the AUFC squad for training, with Match Day 1 in the AFC Champions League match against Korean Champions Pohang Steelers on March 12 in Korea.

Regardless of the outcome overseas, Burns will be a part of Adelaide United for the AFC Champions League which concludes on the 21st May against Chinese Champions Changchun Yatai in China.

He recently signed a two year contract with the Reds, but with a Euro get-out clause that allowed him to leave for a European club at any time.

yeah we need a few more pacier backs and pacier players in general IMO

I agree we definately need someone with pace at the back and someone that can forsee the long ball to Griffiths and the likes. Someone younger and keen to impress. The one thing we've lacked and could close down many counterattack goals we've conceeded this year.

I read somewhere that Nix were interested in Tarek Elrich too?

Yeah read that in the Daily Terror........if that rumour is right, why would his brother Ahmad then be wanting out -  or Tarek even bothering with them if his brother is about to leave?

Elder Elrich believes he is a much better player than he actually is. no doubt wondering why R Madrid havent come in for him.

well billy celeski has with the tards:

Victory sign up CeleskiWednesday, 6 February 2008

Billy Celeski Melbourne Victory has signed former Perth Glory midfielder Billy Celeski on a one-year contract, strengthening their line-up ahead of their Asian Champions League campaign.

Celeski scored a hat-trick for the Glory against Sydney on the road in round 17 and has also represented the Qantas Australian Under-23s and Young Socceroos, but has opted to return to his home town of Melbourne after his contract with Perth was terminated in a mutual agreement between the club and player.

Victory coach Ernie Merrick was happy with acquiring a player of Celeski's quality to further strengthen an impressive midfield that clicked into gear superbly in the last four rounds of the season.

"We're always on the lookout for players that are not only physically capable and technically outstanding, but players who are up-and-coming national team players that have represented Australia at youth and Olympic level," said Merrick.

"These are the type of players that we want to grow the team in the longer term and Billy fits into that profile."

"He's technically very good and his tactical development through the Victorian Institute of Sport and the Australia Institute of Sport has been spot on and he fits the culture of our club," he said.

The 22-year-old midfielder spent the 2005-06 Hyundai A-League season at Perth before returning to Melbourne to play with Bulleen and Whittlesea in the Victorian Premier League.

He was then tempted back to Perth on a two-year deal at the start this season, but the contract termination now allows him to return once again to Melbourne.

The Victory will take on Korean FA Cup winners the Chunnam Dragons in its first AFC Champions League match at Telstra Dome on Wednesday, March 12.

IMHO if the mariners are looking for a decent keeper why not get jess van stratten who is currently with juventus.

i think i read somewhere that he is a coastie boy, maybe a loan ??

found some info on jess on the juve website:

Jess Vanstrattan

Jess Vanstrattan was born on the 19th of July 1982 in Gasford, Australia. Both his parents are named Kim: his mum works as an interior decorator, while his dad is a fireman. Jess has a sister, Brie, a businesswoman, and a brother, Beau, who works as a carpenter. He's currently single.

When he's not playing or training, Jess chooses to relax much in the same way as most people his age: with music, movies, and sport. He listens to all musical genres, from rock to pop, including dance music. He can't name his favourite singer or one particular song: he really does listen to all kinds of stuff.

He's a huge movie enthusiast. He loves all the biggest international actors: Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman. His favourite film is Frank Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption, featuring the abovementioned Freeman.
He adores going out with friends and has begun discovering restaurants, bars and clubs in Turins centre.

When he arrived in Italy in 2001, he fell in love with Mediterranean cuisine. He loves Italian food, but his favourite dish of all is churasco, a traditional Brazilian grilled meat dish. He doesn't drink wine or alcohol, he always drinks water exclusively.

His clothes reflect his love of surfing, which is his favourite sport. He almost always chooses to dress casual and sporty, but he's aware that in certain situations dressing elegantly is a necessity. He is crazy about trainers. Whenever he can, he adds a new pair to his already vast collection.

He's a true sport enthusiast: surfing a sport he began at 6 years of age but which he has had to curtail now due to his profession Motorbike racing, which he watches avidly on TV, and rugby. His favourite sports personality is undoubtedly Valentino Rossi.

His football career began when he was 7 years old in Terrigal's youth sector. He started out pretty much by chance: some friends of his had been playing football for a while and they invited him to try - and the rest is history.

He played up front at the beginning and as he grew up he was gradually moved backwards, until he was put in goal. Destiny had a decisive role in this: indeed since he was a child his favourite footballer had been Mark Bosnich, the Australian keeper, a legend down under, who has played among others for Manchester United and Aston Villa, the team that Jess supports.

His happiest football memory is his National team debut, whilst his dreams are to keep playing for a prestigious club, to keep winning and to be able to play in the World Cup one day.
