Wellington = 4. New Plymouth, Mt Smart, North Harbour and Hamilton
Wanderers = 1. Campbelltown
Sydney = 1. TBC
Newcastle = 1. Coffs Harbour
Victory = 1. Geelong
City, Roar, Reds and Perth haven't this season but have shifted individual games to other venues over time.

Also worth remembering to offset it, CCM full season memberships grant entry to Hunter for the 2 derbies there.

All the above moved home games are for the possibility of 'expanded boundaries' of their current clubs geographical 'footprint'.

Our moved games are for the possibility of having a new club geographic 'footprint'. ;)

We may not be able to do much about being ass raped by a greedy porn peddling property developer but we can at least object.

It doesn't do us any good and you still get ass f**ked but you have to do something.

Central Coast Mariners want to copy GWS Giants with Canberra partnership
Date
June 9, 2016 - 7:07PM

Chris Dutton

The Central Coast Mariners have declared their intention to copy the GWS Giants' model for a relationship in Canberra, revealing they were prepared to take on financial risks of hosting two games in the capital to show their commitment to the partnership.

The Mariners will play two A-League games in Canberra next season against the Wellington Phoenix and defending champion Adelaide United after the draw was published on Thursday.

The games could also feature double-header fixtures with the Canberra United W-League team to grow further connections with the city.

The ACT government gave the Mariners a financial injection to shift their clash against the Phoenix to Canberra Stadium as part of the capital's 'sister-city' relationship with Wellington.
The Mariners have already started offering two-game memberships to Canberra fans and will start a pathway program to give the capital's best coaches and players a chance to train with the Gosford -based club and will have a constant presence to build up support.

The financial commitment is dwarfed by the ACT government's $23 million deal over 10 years with the Giants.

But Mariners boss Shaun Mielekamp is confident his club can reap benefits from strong ties with Canberra and is open to the prospect of having more games in the ACT in coming years.

"The initial discussions were about having two games, but the way the budget fell with the government was that there was only money for one," Mielekamp said.

"The Adelaide game is a genuine financial risk for us, but we felt it showed that it isn't just a cash grab from us. It's a strategic play to grow football in the Canberra region, we want to do the right thing for Canberra.

"If we get it right, it will set up a long-term platform for a relationship between the Mariners and Canberra.

"We've got some sponsor interest, we're going to launch a two-game membership for people in Canberra and then we're going to create a pathway for the best players to come through our system.

"We want to do as much grassroots work as possible ... there are some exciting things that we're building on. We genuinely want to make sure we do everything we can to make it work. It's not a one off."

Canberra hasn't hosted A-League matches since 2009 when the Mariners played against the Perth Glory and Adelaide.

But the success of the Asian Cup and Socceroos matches in Canberra has created renewed interest in the sport in the city, despite Football Federation Australia continually pouring cold water on the suggestion of a permanent team in the capital.

The Giants play three AFL premiership matches and a pre-season fixture at Manuka Oval every season.

Support has steadily grown for the Giants in recent years and the Mariners are hoping to attract crowds of more than 10,000 to their matches.

It was Canberra United's W-League games in Gosford last year which triggered talks between the Mariners, the ACT government and Capital Football.

"It was a sort of 'light bulb' moment for us when all of our Mariners supporters were cheering on Canberra in the W-League games here last season," Mielekamp said.

"Our home will always be at Gosford ... but we're keen to grow partnerships that aren't at the detriment to our base on the Central Coast.

The Mariners will play the Phoenix on November 12 while Adelaide will play in Canberra on February 5.

The Mariners-Phoenix match was lured to Canberra by the new international flight route between Canberra and Wellington. It will also be part of a Remembrance Round to recognise Australian and New Zealand Defence Force personnel.

Key bit is obviously:

'"The initial discussions were about having two games, but the way the budget fell with the government was that there was only money for one," Mielekamp said.

"We want to do as much grassroots work as possible ... there are some exciting things that we're building on. We genuinely want to make sure we do everything we can to make it work. It's not a one off."'

Why take a financial risk to build an audience and commit to building an audience over several years unless there's consideration being given to moving? This is essentially 'venue-splitting'.

In spite of Gallop doing his best to stop it there will be a 12 teams sooner rather than later with the favourites being an extra team in Sydney and Melbourne. At that stage the number of games we host will be 16 or 17. Do we have the support that would buy tickets to that many games?

Memberships for that sort of season given current prices for 11 homes games would be in the region of

16 17
Platinum 550 600
Gold 375 400
Blue 250 270
Yellow 190 200

If the club are serious about real partnership Capital Football is relatively strong.

Given an extra Sydney team that would mean 12 NSW based games (hopefully) with

6 at home and 21 non NSW games. Of the 21 non NSW games I would want to host each team at least once - that is a minimum of 7 games. So in the years we have 16 'home' games I could see us hosting 13 at CCS and 3 in Canberra and the following year 13 at CCS and 4 in Canberra. I don't think this is ideal at all - but a real partnership will have advantages over moving adhoc games to Geelong - virtually giving them a free home game in terms of support.

13 games at similar to current prices would be

Platinum 450
Gold 300
Blue 200
Yellow 160

TBH my ideal expansion would be to go straight to 14 teams with 1 Sydney, 1 Melbourne, Canberra and Wollongong with a true 26 round home and away. 13 rounds at home - and a further 6 within an easy drive at either Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong or Canberra.

Firstly, in regards to any 'arse raping' :eek:, I strongly object.

But this,
Why take a financial risk to build an audience and commit to building an audience over several years unless there's consideration being given to moving? This is essentially 'venue-splitting'.

just solidifies the point I was trying make,
All the above moved home games are for the possibility of 'expanded boundaries' of their current clubs geographical 'footprint'.

OUR moved games are for the possibility of having a new club geographic 'footprint'

Which is what upset Timmah to begin with, by me daring to suggest it. He fails to accept that;
"We dont ALL drink the Kool-Aid"

The NSO proposal had one foot still on the Central Coast with the other south of the Hawksbury, with those in charge trying to calm the many tightened & puckered sphincter's of Mariner's fans.

This season, with that 'other foot' NOW going even farther south & across the State border + 'a financial commitment/partnership', that's one hell'uva of leg-spread !!!

With leg's spread that far, it's all only a matter of time, biomechanics & logic that,

- Ultimately 'one' will either fall backwards, causing damage to 'one's' spine (i.e - the fan's)

Or fall forward, physically & figuratively bending-over & ' just having to take it'.

And as said, I strongly object to any 'arse-raping', no matter the amount of
'enticing-lube' on offer !

Avoiding your excessive, unnecessarily graphic metaphors, one doesn't have to "drink the kool-aid" to have an opinion that's not in line with yours.

The club's not moving anywhere. The club will, until such time it's profitable to play every game at Gosford, play 1-2 home games in another market. If Canberra proves a good market to do that in regularly until such time it's no longer necessary, then we're not only helping our own bottom line, but we're helping the growth of football in Australia.

Thinking it's any more than that, getting into a lather about it - what's the point?

Why would we pay to do it though? Why not pay money to play in front of our actual fans?
