Im not sure why there is too much shock with the draw.
- Fox largely dictate the draw in selecting their top 100 fixtures for prime slots. We rate poorly so 7pm Sat is not going to happen.
- We have had the swinging derby allocation for quite some time, all clubs want it to change...just not in the cycle when they benefit and this year the big clubs arnt going to relinquish it.

QFT - until we play and rate better this will be our lot.

Good:
OK with two games away. I assume Canberra are doing good deals for both games but would have preferred Wollongong or Western Mariners for the second
NYE game - against a different non-NSW opponent
First home game against a non-NSW opponent
No Sun 3pm games

Bad:
I would have liked an Australia Day (Thursday) game even at 6pm
Thursday night game for a commuter city on a working day is asking for trouble
Playing Glory, WSW, Roar & Nix twice before playing either Melbourne side at all
Unbalanced NSW game split continues
Home Derby should not be so late in the season - it has the real potential to be meaningless.

The Central Coast Mariners have declared their intention to copy the GWS Giants' model for a relationship in Canberra, revealing they were prepared to take on financial risks of hosting two games in the capital to show their commitment to the partnership.

The Mariners will play two A-League games in Canberra next season against the Wellington Phoenix and defending champion Adelaide United after the draw was published on Thursday.

The games could also feature double-header fixtures with the Canberra United W-League team to grow further connections with the city.

The ACT government gave the Mariners a financial injection to shift their clash against the Phoenix to Canberra Stadium as part of the capital's 'sister-city' relationship with Wellington.
The Mariners have already started offering two-game memberships to Canberra fans and will start a pathway program to give the capital's best coaches and players a chance to train with the Gosford -based club and will have a constant presence to build up support.

The financial commitment is dwarfed by the ACT government's $23 million deal over 10 years with the Giants.

But Mariners boss Shaun Mielekamp is confident his club can reap benefits from strong ties with Canberra and is open to the prospect of having more games in the ACT in coming years.


"The initial discussions were about having two games, but the way the budget fell with the government was that there was only money for one," Mielekamp said.

"The Adelaide game is a genuine financial risk for us, but we felt it showed that it isn't just a cash grab from us. It's a strategic play to grow football in the Canberra region, we want to do the right thing for Canberra.

"If we get it right, it will set up a long-term platform for a relationship between the Mariners and Canberra.

"We've got some sponsor interest, we're going to launch a two-game membership for people in Canberra and then we're going to create a pathway for the best players to come through our system.

"We want to do as much grassroots work as possible ... there are some exciting things that we're building on. We genuinely want to make sure we do everything we can to make it work. It's not a one off."

Canberra hasn't hosted A-League matches since 2009 when the Mariners played against the Perth Glory and Adelaide.

But the success of the Asian Cup and Socceroos matches in Canberra has created renewed interest in the sport in the city, despite Football Federation Australia continually pouring cold water on the suggestion of a permanent team in the capital.

The Giants play three AFL premiership matches and a pre-season fixture at Manuka Oval every season.

Support has steadily grown for the Giants in recent years and the Mariners are hoping to attract crowds of more than 10,000 to their matches.

It was Canberra United's W-League games in Gosford last year which triggered talks between the Mariners, the ACT government and Capital Football.

"It was a sort of 'light bulb' moment for us when all of our Mariners supporters were cheering on Canberra in the W-League games here last season," Mielekamp said.

"Our home will always be at Gosford ... but we're keen to grow partnerships that aren't at the detriment to our base on the Central Coast.

The Mariners will play the Phoenix on November 12 while Adelaide will play in Canberra on February 5.

The Mariners-Phoenix match was lured to Canberra by the new international flight route between Canberra and Wellington. It will also be part of a Remembrance Round to recognise Australian and New Zealand Defence Force personnel.

GWS are lucky to get 4000. I saw a couple of minutes of one game and there wouldn't have been 1500 in the ground.
Pikey Mikey will have to give away 4000 freebies to get 10k.

Two 7+ Home starts. One on NYE where it doesnt matter - the other on a f**king thursday where crowds will be shit anyway.

The only good thing is perth twice ftom a travel $ pov. But we've got to go to Welly twice.

Oh and if walmsley gets off to another shocker... At least his replacement will be in before we really even beging our season from a home fans perspective.

Sean's right... In the face of that draw, going to have to be the time to show our worth. But hope the club is clear that anything less than a great season will be disastrous. No pressure.

Apart from that, im a glass half full guy, but enourage those who can swallow their bile (which as ive said numerous times is not unfair) to do everything you can to shelve it so we can stick together and get behind the club despite how utterly shite we've been for two years. Because the pricks calling the shots care nothing for us long term. Pundits hate us. So if we dont stand up for the club... Dark lonely waters ahead.

Simply put, club requests and ground availability essentially mean this is little to no chance of happening. To fit in the bulk of what clubs want from a fixture together with things like Westpac and Spotless being out of commission for month-long periods is too hard to overcome.

Basically, a HAHAHAHA (home/away, not laughing ) schedule is highly unlikely for most clubs most seasons - at least until most grounds have wide open availability.

And for what it's worth - our ground is the most available in the competition.

As someone pretty familiar with doing draws, it's mostly a matter of what else you're trying to fit in - derbies at particular times, our NYE game not being a particularly easy one because you have to avoid strong-drawing opponents (to save them for another game), and certain 'set' fixtures like Victory vs Wellington on Melbourne Cup night, etc.

'FFA owned' grounds.

The battle between Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets gained traction and feeling as soon as the Hyundai A-League kicked off and you get the feeling in 2016/17 it'll be another ripper.
It’s no secret these two proud clubs separated by the M1 (formally F3) freeway don’t like each other.

It was the Jets who enjoyed bragging rights last season, winning two derbies on Mariners soil, including a 4-2 drubbing in the final round of the season.

FFA announces purchase of Newcastle Jets by Ledman Group

Jets fans taunted the Mariners by throwing wooden spoons onto Central Coast Stadium which didn’t go down well with the home fans, and you can be sure it will add a bit more feeling when they lock horns this season.

And both are building nicely as they look to surge up the ladder next campaign after seasons in which they both failed to finish in the six.

We’ll see the first F3 clash in Round 7, with the Mariners making the trip to Hunter Stadium on November 20.

The bitter rivals then clash twice in the last six rounds, with the Jets again hosting in Round 21 on February 25, before the Mariners welcome Newcastle to Gosford on Sunday, April 9 (Round 26).

The Mariners have already started to strengthen their squad for the new campaign, adding experienced Sydney FC trio Jacques Faty, Mickael Tavares and Ivan Necevski to their ranks.

And with Jets boss Scott Miller embarking on a trip to the UK and Scandanavia in the off-season, you can be sure there will be some exciting new faces in the Hunter as well.

And there should be big crowds at all three clashes between the two sides next season thanks to the ground-breaking membership initiative by both clubs.

Full-season ticketed members of both the Jets and Mariners can attend the away fixtures in the F3 Derby free of charge for the next two seasons as part of a partnership between the clubs.

I've re-looked at the draw after Timmy's signing and MC will probably be very happy.

With Timmy signing for City we have another game that should pull a larger crowd and he also should boost our traditional larger drawing NYE game. If we can push the opening home game and the Australia Day weekend game we have the potential to have 7 of the 11 CCS games to break 10,000..
