I don't see it happening. He's no different than what we've got. Realistically we don't need 2 of the dms in Tavares, Monty, rose and the other 3 we've got for that area of the field. We need 2 ams. Powell is not a creative player.

Subbing our third midfielder for a defender (to play in the mids)when we're a goal down was disappointing. Assume Okon thought they were just out of gas so had no choice. Otherwise thought we'd surely see Bingham.

Bottom line - we're clearly improving and I think roar should count themselves very lucky to leave with three points. Apart from a few small patches and the last semi comedic 15 minutes when we became sloppy and desperate - we controlled the game and did cause a lot of problem - the ball just didn't want to go in against our bogey side. I really wish Roy had cut the ball back in that last run he had into the box back as Powell took up the perfect position - thought we deserved at lest a point,

We still make far too many stupid passes etc - but can see where it's heading. We do need to move the ball quicker when switching the play and also need to hit a few more long diagonal balls wide. Do it in two passes and the other team slides, and the moment is gone.

The one thing (annoyingly) the roar did really well was hold their shape.

I think L Rose should be trialled at ten. Powell continues to look out of position. Though he links well, works hard and thought his positioning was ok, seems unlikely he is ever going to offer us the creativity we're still lacking imo.

Thought Taveres was excellent. My 3pts
Pain was gutsy, hacked and manhandled all day, but still offered plenty. 2pts.
McGing 1 pt. the best of our backs today - who excepting Neil were much improved - though tbf Neil's second half was a lot better than his first.

Not going to be too hard on players who simply aren't good enough at this level.

We are 5 or 6 players short of be top 6

Today. Izzo, Neill, McGing, Monty and Powell were awful. Monty probably the worst game he has ever had for us

We were not humiliated today but without any semblance of a midfield we can't compete

Monty declining steadily unfortunately, but as Captain....
Would love a proper number 10, someone Tavares could link up with effectively, we are so predictable down the flanks.

Neill out Galloway in

Yep, definitely a poor performance from Monty. The guys next to me in 38 were questioning the rationale of hooking the captain, but in the state we're in we can't afford to have any sacred cows.

Neill was seriously pissing me off, and McGing to a lesser extent.

Oh, and that referee was absolutely shite - not just with the poor calls, but also getting in the bloody way all the time

Came away tonight feeling better than I have for quite a while.

As FFC said above we have some players in our run on side that would not be squad players in many other teams.

Keeper, wide backs, and with Rose, Monty, Berry, and Traves 4 DM's and no attacking mids... almost IMO calls for a 442 shape with Fab and Roy up front, Pain and Trent wide with Traves and one other in the centre of the park.

I would be tempted to play Pasco as wide back along with Scott, sadly I think the A-League is catching Monty.

IMO two penalties not called on this form I can't see the Roar in the finals.

My points 3 to Traves, 2 to Pain, 1 to Faty IMO he had a decent game tonight.

But I saw a different team tonight.

Was very happy with tonight, we just not getting that little bit of luck (PO just mentioned we need to make our luck on fox).

Good start but Roar wrestled back and controlled rest of the half.

Roar set there press up to force us left to McGing. They targeted him and Neill to make the mistakes. Knowing McGing isn't left footed they left him open to make sure he received on his left side close to sideline. Then when it went to Neill there was a massive whole on the inside littered with Roar players. Neill already pressed against the sideline had Connar or nothing which didn't help but was by design by the Roar.

Roar just attacked the ball harder and where rewarded with the goal just purely on desire.
Izzo should not have gone for it but you need to make that call and if you go, go hard which he did and was just a little unlucky.

Izzo made some good saves that kept us in it. I thought he did well.

Faty was much better.

Really enjoyed watching Taveras, he was really good.

Still to many passes not in front of the player attacking. A few over the sideline (Monty and McGing) and Powell responsible for passes behind the link player.

Pain was good again

We seemed to really tire in the second half and lost all fluidity. Can tell the roar have been playing together for a while and our front guys just not sure what the other was going to do.

Galloway looked great when came on and look forward to seeing more of him.

It's a shame when losing 1-0 is seen as a good night but it is what is

McKay really controlled the game for them and made some good runs. Without him they lose tonight.

We lost tonight. That aside I was actually really quite happy with the game. It was enjoyable to watch and we're showing the progression I've been asking for.

Tavares was at times superb, Pain, Fab and Trent excellent. Some of our attacks were really quite good and our tracking and defence significantly improved. Faty played well. Neill...I'm relieved Galloway is awaiting.

Frankly I'll be interested to see what people say after watching a replay. I expect there'll be a more positive response.

I've said before that I expect 8-12 games before we really start to genuinely compete and see this as a good point to be at 3 games in.

Definitely need to improve in key areas, many discussed already.
More importantly - we need to show consistency from here. Play AT LEAST that well every game from here on and build on it

Overall I felt better after tonight's game than I have in a good while

My player ratings:
Paul Izzo: 5
Was at fault for the goal we conceded, Matt Nash's coaching more at fault than Izzo I would say, made numerous saves to keep us in the game when our defence faltered, distribution was solid if not amazing but overall had a decent game.

Storm Roux: 6
Overlapped with Ferreira very well and put in some good balls. Corners were slightly over hit but better than Monty's have been. Dropped away at the end and failed to control our last chance but is understandable considering his only recent injury comeback.

Jacques Faty: 5.5
Was solid defensively and linked well with Roux and Tavares at times. Needs to organise the back line better but the speed of ball movement was much improved from the Sydney game.

Jake McGing: 4
Was caught out of position quite a few times and struggled to distribute. Not a centre back but can hopefully improve while we have so many injuries.

Michael Neill: 3.5
Was terrible at the beginning of the game but improved as the game went on. His sloppy header and positioning failure lead directly to the goal. Took some good set pieces but needs to offer more support to Pain.

Mickaël Tavares: 7
Is the barometer of the team and performed admirably today. Starting to develop an understanding with Blake Powell but at times lost the ball sloppily

Nick Montgomery: 4.5
Defensively had a wonderful game but sadly doesn't seem to have the passing range for this system. Struggled to link passes and a tough choice awaits Paul Okon.

Adam Berry: 4.5
Was peripheral but made decent runs at times. Disappointing to see him half heatedly jog back into position after not winning a corner.

Scott Galloway: 7
Made on impact when he came on. Played numerous good balls including the one for probably our best chance. If fit probably deserves to start next week over Montgomery or Neill.

Blake Powell: 6
Made good runs into pockets of space but struggled to make an impact. Much improved on last week and played some good balls.

Fabio Ferreira: 7
Contributed well going forward and actually tracked back! (Okon you genius!)Did seem obsessed with taking on his man however and sometimes needs to play the simple ball.

Roy O'Donovan: 5
Was simply not Roy's day today but he often had two players surrounding him. Needs a little more time to click with Pain but will be dangerous when he does.

Connor Pain: 7
Knew when to take on his man and when to keep possession. Dominated Hingert forward and back for a majority of the game. Had a very good game but just needs that final ball.

Trent Buhagiar: 6
Was good but his confidence seemed shaken from not starting. Thought he deserved to start.

Coach Rating: 6.5
Thought not starting Trent Buhagiar was a mistake and would have shaken his confidence. I think Ivan Necevski should have started as well because any last semblance of his confidence is now shattered. Our game plan was good if at times predictable. Berry had minimal impact from the bench but that seemed more like a planned fitness change for Montgomery than anything else. Buhagiar was his usual enthusiastic self but struggled to inject himself as well. Galloway was needed earlier but had a great impact and could have been short on fitness.

Overall Rating: 6.5
I thought we were much improved over last week but Brisbane were a much weaker side than Sydney. Okon's gameplan is starting to take shape and we will only improve from here.

I'm surprised on McGing. Feel like I must have missed some moments. Saw him make consistent clearances aerially, cleaned up after mistakes of others at least twice. saved a one on one on another... and I didn't really see him do anything wrong. Must have been looking elsewhere - others all seem united in thinking he was poor.

Just watched Okon's presser. He, looked, GUTTED. Nice that he cares so much. Agree with him that we just can't seem to get any luck, either the ref or the bounce of the ball.

I thought Okon did the right thing by dropping Ivan this week as last week was diabolical. The best I've seen Izzo play and this is a result of competition for his position and the threat of being dropped if you don't perform. No doubt Paolo would love this for every position and unlike TW will make decisions on performance which is what you want to see. They are professional footballers not school children and if you don't get a starting spot work you but off and get it back. Who cares about their confidence as that will be shot if they don't get another contract. I'm sure the top HAL coaches don't pander to players confidence levels.

Overall I'm a believer in what Paolo is building and it will take time and I have no doubt he knows where we need to improve but defence is important first and at least we didn't concede 3 plus goals.

Starting to think that Walmsleys rumored lack of training intensity is hurting us in the last 20.

We were walking and Brisbane easily closed the game out

I think it was more of us giving it to them for no reward . Then being so disheatened again .
The commentry at the end nearly burst
Their undies telling
us how long we've gone without a clean shèet
