If you build it, they will come....

Hopefully the FFA has a... ummm... marketing strategy... or similar... other than just telling everyone that they all sit back with sly grins on their faces, thinking of how they have the top participation rates in Sydney's west, etc. etc.

So... Fury went under because FFA weren't bailing out any more clubs (a threat which seemed aimed also at us) but see fit to fully fund another franchise.

Am I missing something here?

When FFA goes belly up from the money-pit drain with this new project that all the other owners have reported and the legal costs of fighting Clive in court (win or lose), what happens to football?

What happened to football having the highest participation rates out of all team sports in Australia, and it is the "World Game"? All that and there aren't enough players around to cover another 20-odd in a new team?

A team in western Sydney means we have a local team for future Matt Ryans, Amini's, Bernie's etc.
And what is worst is we dont have a senior team on the coast to filter player sthrough our kid sare going to continue to play in Sydney there chances of playing a-League, NYL and Premier League are higher than staying here.

You whinge about the ineptness of some of the current crop, yet you feel we can support another team within 100 klms? Before responding you should really think. STOP and think. I have had these conversations with people that no a great deal more about football and development, NYL/A league etc, Coaches and coaching staff. Football participation rates decrease greatly at about 14-16! How old are most A-League players?? What a ill-informed general comment to make! Instead of sitting behind your keyboard go and get a football education, play and train with some of the A-league players, talk to the coaches and administrators of our local club the Mariners. Ask them what they think.

Well they are going to need 20 somthing players.. and administrators, coaching staff etc. Thins the talent pool etc etc
Its not rocket science mate!
Just thought 10 teams 2011/12, 10 teams 2012/13, net increase = 0
Was hoping there wasn't something in it I was missing, behind the scenes designed to f**k us up. Our current recruitment strategies have worked pretty well. I don't think our access to the Western Sydney talented kids pool will suddenly dry up and it's only an hour away.

I'd be pretty pissed off about this if I was from NQ or Canberra

Happy about the W-League side, except that it probably kills off a Central Coast one for a while!

FFA Media Release:
Sydney

Wednesday 4 April 2012

"Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today announced that Western Sydney will be represented by a new club in the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 season.

The establishment of the new club was announced today at the Football NSW headquarters at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood, where the Prime Minister Julia Gillard unveiled an $8 million funding package for football development in Western Sydney.

“I’m delighted that the funding from the Gillard Government will help create a fertile environment for the new Hyundai A-League club in Western Sydney,” said FFA CEO Ben Buckley.

“From day one of its existence the new club will have a core focus on community engagement. The community will have a say in the culture, colours, name and logo of the new entity and we will explore a model that would allow for community ownership.

“In partnership with Football NSW, FFA will ensure the club is truly integrated in community football, schools programs and the elite player pathway.

“We intend to build a model that will be driven by the passion of the football people in Sydney’s west.

“This represents a major investment by FFA in the future of the game and aligns with FFA’s Strategic Plan endorsed by the recent Smith Review.”

Mr Buckley said the inclusion of the new Western Sydney club would be a boost for all clubs in the national competition.

“I know that the prospect of having a fierce rival in Sydney and all the passion of a derby game will excite everyone associated with Sydney FC,” said Mr Buckley.

The $8 million funding package includes $1 million to be allocated to the development of women’s football and the Westfield W-League and $3 million for the redevelopment of the Football NSW headquarters at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood."

We have an academy in Western Sydney, we (had) a close relationship with Blacktown (Ryan, Amin, Bernie etc. It wil have a massive impact.

Yeah those clubs would be filthy.

More opportunities for coastie players who won't be crowded out by Sydney kids in the Mariners side though, right?

FFS - There are 160 players per age group every year in the NSWPYL.

In each year, about 16 new kids make their way into NYL sides between SFC and CCM (squads of 16 or so, tenure of 2 years or so).

Unicorns FC brings this up to roughly 24 kids per year.

We're talking 8 more kids a year going and playing NYL and with luck four of them might make the grade for HAL. That's going to shake the Mariners to their foundations, I'm sure.

With a redevelopment of Valentine Park I wonder if this $8million is the same money being applied differently that was announced for the Riverstone complex before the last election.

From Facebook re,

"Western Sydney Side has been talked about for a long time. Discussions for coaches, CEO, players have already started.
Funds from Government will be used in partnership with FFA and Football NSW on community initiatives. Integrated in Elite Pathways system and Multicultural Communities will receive grants from FFA like all clubs. Own CEO, Management, Board ...of Directors to be announced in the next few months. FFA will explore Community model. Shortlist of candidates for CEO and board. Announcement on Gold Coast United in the next 24 hours 72012/2013 A league season will only have 10 teams Opportunities to get players from overseas same salary cap as all a league squads.Ben Buckley said that Western Sydney deserve to have a side."

Can you imagine if you approached the FFA with that model and asked to be excepted!!

Gee settle down. Do these people also "no" a great deal more about spelling and grammar?

... are you saying having a high participation rate means nothing because...

Football participation rates decrease greatly at about 14-16! How old are most A-League players?? What a ill-informed general comment to make!
?? Why does FFA keep banging on about it then?

What's this dribble about?

Instead of sitting behind your keyboard go and get a football education, play and train with some of the A-league players, talk to the coaches and administrators of our local club the Mariners. Ask them what they think.

Instead of pissing and moaning and telling me you know everything and I know nothing, how about you address the question about the player pool?

All you do is put vague insubstantial comments that you only ever back up with links to even more vague articles and tell us all the CCF should take over the Mariners.

Get over yourself mate.
