I'm gonna float this one with the missis tonight. If she is cool with it i'm going. The away trips are alot of fun!!

If i get a leave pass you wanna come Big Al??
Thanks foe the offer @Wombat. I was definitely harsh to our loyal followers and I apologize for that. Just a lot pissed off with the mess that is our team. While hanging out with other fans would be fun. Watching that so called team and paying for the pleasure and the alcohol to numb the pain. No thanks. I’m still stupid enough to watch them on the idiot box though.

Only time i've seen a man vomit into his own beard and suck the puke back up into his mouth and then continue drinking!

Not Pete BTW.

I like that you went back to edit to affirm that it wasn’t me :)
First time I saw that post I thought ‘wait... that sounds like something I’d do... but I haven’t spewed from drinking since well before my beard grew in!’... that may have also been a Sydney away trip.

So what’s our backline with that squad?? By dropping. 2 defenders in Golec and Clisby, hopefully that sends a message.

But the only back 4 I can come up with is Millar/Cisse/Astro/Rowles, and I’m not full of confidence in those middle 2.

Team sheets in - Golec & Clisby dropped, Aspro named in the squad along with Tommy H.

Smurfs have brought Caceres straight in after signing him yesterday.

The most interesting part about having our lord and saviour back in the squad was the clubs use of “key player” in regards to him.

I think that’s probably the first time during this whole debacle, has Mulvey finally seen some sense? Is this the biggest sign that Tommy will stay?

Always abit nervous when Clisby is dropped. His form has dropped massively since the first few matches but he’s our only specialist LB. Aspro may start with Kye in LB.

Clisby has detiorated so badly and deserves to be dropped. Kye has a lot more promise at LB and it was a mistake to move him back inside imho. Though I’m aware he saw himself as a CB.

Cisse is a good leader and he reads the game well, but he’s just too skow now. Maybe he’s been refreshed. Sigh...

I like that Golec and Clisby are dropped. Agree with both decisions. Drop 3 more and I’ll be happy.

Tom H is back. Mulvey should be dropping hoole for Millar at RM and drop weemac for Tom.

Get Shabow back on and I want to see Kekeris on the bench and get some minutes.

Don’t want to think about our keeper situation though.

Give murray a start and bring Matty on at 60.

I wonder (optimistically) if any of the squad changes this week are due to MC being in town.
While it’s obvious he wants to operate in less than every other team, I think it’s in his best interests to do the best possible with what he is spending.
There is every chance he turned up on New Years and got a genuine taste of what’s been happening over here, rather than reports.
If it was my investment, I would have walked in on the first, and said to Mulvey, ‘I know we tried to get Tom to leave, but he isn’t, so sort your crap out and play him. He’s the best player in this squad, and this crap is embarrasing. Now this Aspro kid is supposed to be good right, stop giving him extra time in NYL and play the kid.’

I didn't go on NYE...chose to play cards and drink/celebrate the new year with some friends.... I also thought about going to this game, but chose a Led Zeppelin cover band at the Opera House instead....
this is the first season I feel this way....usually I have some interest because we MIGHT win....but not this season...sorry folks.... :headbutt:

Dropping Clisby altogether concerns me for a number of reasons :

- if it's to accommodate Rowles shifting left in a back x3, I'm totally fine with it.

However if it's a back x4 with Rowles at LB ... he just doesn't have the skills or confidence to bomb forward and contribute in the front 1/3.

When playing at LB last season Rowles rarely NEVER got past the halfway.

& this creates a problem in balance, as it was ALWAYS our RB doing the 'go-forward' runs to the by-line, becoming predictable to the oppisition who then look to exploit that hole left by the RB (Storm) in transition.

Defensively the opposition dont then have to worry about Rowles trying to get forward ... he doesn't like to.

"Easy .... wheras RB.. we'll focus on shutting Millar down instead "
-they'll double-team him any anyone trying to link with Milly on that RHS.

If Mulvey plays a 3 - 4 - 3 then Id like to see:

------------------------- Pearce -----------------------

------- Aspro -------- Cisse ------- Rowles ----

Millar --------- Hiariej ------ O'Neil -------- Oar

--------- Muzza ----- Simon ------- Pain ---------

Hey mate just to fill you that was an Okon tactic that was pushed all the way down the Academy. The curriculum wasn't rigid enough for him - he actually took it a step further and made all the left backs stay back no matter what was in front of them or how attack minded they were and the right back was able to bomb forward at will. As you mentioned above it took A-League managers 2 games to figure it out and we became very easy to coach against.

Yeah, dont doubt any of that for a minute.
(Imagine all the poor left-footed 'Matty Millars' we've stifled the last few years then :headbutt:)

But it still doesn't hide the fact that Rowles IS a CB and should only be on the outer left side IF we play with a back x3.

Oar is defensively better than Pain, which is why I've put him on the left side of the Midfield.
- They can rotate and cover each other,

BUT .... Pain (& fcuking Hoole) is lazy in defence (solidified by my watching the NYE game again last nite) so you'd really want to instruct Oar to get back a lot quicker when he can, rather then leave Pain - who's covering him after a run to the by-line.

Whoever suggested playing Oar at #10 - is flat out crazy imo.

God and Oar both on the bench as per Mulvey today. Not fit enough to start.

https://www.ccmariners.com.au/news/round-11-preview-sydney-v-mariners

In the above article they chopped the "right frame of mind, he wants to play" part of the video interview.

Team changes…
“Tom Hiariej has been battling a calf injury for a number of weeks. He’s trained since last week, he’s not ready for a full game yet but we will have him on the bench tomorrow which is good news, we have missed him. Tommy Oar is not at full fitness yet, but he will be on the bench tomorrow which is much needed for the team and also the fans as well. He showed us a glimpse of what we can do when he came on against Perth the other night and once we get them both back to full fitness it brings more quality to our squad, which is probably what we’ve been missing.

It's probably just editing, tbh, but adds colour to the whole episode.
