Yeah I worry that the rules are to strict.

I believe the 3 A League teams have to have under 20's squads with 3 under 23? Correct me if wrong.

I think that is to much pressure for a whole squad. It basically says if your not good enough by 19 go work somewhere else. Football is not for you, but plenty of players mature physically as well as skill and maturity a little later.

Maybe a half and half with two under 25 would provide better Balance for a more competitive team allowing winning and development.

Not sure what happened with Peterson but it's seems very much at 19 20 you are signed by the A League side as cheap squad spots but you do have that opportunity to push on but if you don't look the goods in that 12 months your out for the next bunch coming up.

Not sure how we use North Shore but we should be putting our boys who not quite good enough in there team so we can keep an eye on them if they do develope a little later.
Unfortunately, the rules have not hampered Sydney FC Academy (promoted to NPL1 after their first year) or WSW (second last year to Sydney FC and currently top of the NPL2 club championship). The problem is that, in general, CCM Academy will get the players that don't make the other two squads, and even then, some players will choose to play in a Sydney based NPL 1 team where they can actually make more than pocket money or similarly go to Newcastle NPL and again make some money. You are correct though, we should be sending the "older boys", for example Lachie Wales, Steve Whyte if they don't sign an A-league contract, to North Shore Mariners for further development. Sadly, I don't think the synergy other than in name actually exists.

If we could push them there then maybe they could get into NPL 1 and then that would give us a better place for our oldies.

Money obviously is a problem and at some point they do need to take the coin or get another job as we will never be flushed for cash for these guys.

As a few do come from Sydney having a Sydney team to send them to might appeal as well. The travel will wear them down if they feel they aren't going anywhere.

Here's hoping the boys can back on track because they sound like they are competitive but just making to many game changing errors.

Hope Paulo does give those two ago against Victory, unfortunately Jets game is to important.

Although I don't know why he put on Bingham with 5mins to go down by 4 goals. At 3-1 I would have thrown Whyte on little own 4.

Could not have played any worse than the rest of them. Only Royo looked like a professional Footballer.

For those interested,

The Mariners are sending an under 14 girls team to compete in the Dallas International Girls Cup www.dallasinternationalgirlscup.org. The tournament is considered one of the premier female youth tournaments in the world and is held annually in Dallas. It attracts clubs from different countries around the world with Chelsea, Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, AIK and others just to name a few who have, or are competing in this years competition within the various age groups.

The team attending is a composite team made up of girls from the North Shore Mariners and Central Coast Mariners Academy teams (generally W15 teams). They have been training together for a number of weeks in Sydney under the guidance of the NSM W15 head coach Alan Bain, and Wayne "Sully" O'Sullivan in preparation for the tournament. Both of whom will be travelling with the touring party. The team leaves for Dallas on Sunday.

The teams progress can be tracked here;
http://usa.ibercup.com/en/matches/calendar/groups/U-14-f/B

The FNSW institute (W13 & W15) and Emerging Jets (W14) are also sending squads to compete in the event. Texas is considered a bit of a stronghold in US womens soccer so we are expecting the standard to be pretty strong from the local opposition.

Hope to do well flying the Mariners flag..........

Academy vs Macarthur Rams over Easter weekend, the Football NSW match report can be read in the below link. Academy 2 - Rams 4. It was a bizarre game, with Rams basically converting every chance they had and our boys not able to capitalize. Lead twice, 1-0 and then 2-1, but unable to put Rams away, with a penalty saved in the second half. Typical Mariners really.

18s won 8-2 and sit on top of the ladder with 5 wins and 1 draw.
20s won 2-0 and currently sit fourth.

Exactly the same highlights as the last one i saw. Pearce looks very ordinary and the back four are very suspect defensively. Under 10 defending!
The Greek boy looks good, Kekakis was unlucky. Quality ball in and finish for our 1st goal.

Bankstown Berries were rubbish in all 3 grades.

U18s: 7-0
U20s: 5-2
1st: 2-2

Although Berries were rubbish, they converted their two chances, one in each half, after Academy boys turned the ball over cheaply in midfield on both occasions. A curling Papas free kick was the highlight of the first half, to see the scores level at one a piece at half time. Berries went back in front early in the second half, Academy turned the ball over, leading to a pin point cross from wide right to be met by a thunderous header, giving Pearce no chance of saving. A penalty late in the game saw Papas step up to the penalty spot and draw level, but in the end a poor, physical Berries team had done enough to secure a draw. A big strong central defender and another striking option is probably required for the Academy boys to challenge the better the sides, but unfortunately they are few and far between at 18 or 19 years old.

Got there just as we got the penalty for 2.2. Didn't even get a chance to open the hip flask and the whistle blew.
Did enjoy PP and friends sledging the Doggies players.
The coach Ben looks so young but he is intense and I like that.

Not sure if we were watching the same game?? Berries scored right on half time going into the break 1 nil down. Papas scored a great free kick 62' Berries hit back 84' and then we claimed the draw in the 90' with the penalty. I felt we totally dominated with plenty of ball in the attacking half and played some good football, just a few players that hold on to the ball too long instead of shooting at goal and then the possession is lost. A couple of silly mistakes and they get punished.

You're right with the goal times, but I stand by the rest of the overview. Berries were rubbish, Academy punished with two turnovers in midfield leading directly to goals.

Football NSW match review

Central Coast Mariners 2 Bankstown Berries 2, Pluim Park

Central Coast Mariners and Bankstown Berries shared the spoils in a closely-fought two-all draw at Pluim Park on Saturday.

Reece Papas was the star for the Mariners, performing with distinction and scoring two goals, including a 90th minute penalty.

The Berries led twice through Jake Bradshaw and Gavin Forbes before Papas equalised twice to give his side a share of the spoils.

"It was a similar story to most games so far this season," Mariners coach Ben Cahn told Football NSW. "We had a really strong opening 25 minutes, missed two near-open goals and really controlled the game. We played at a tempo that was too difficult for the Berries to deal with but as we've found out on many occasions this season, if you don't take your chances you always leave that window of opportunity for the opposition. Literally with the last kick of the first half we made a couple of individual errors and they scored."

The Mariners responded with a delightful Reece Papas free kick but then another individual error completely against the run of play led to Berries' super sub Gavin Forbes scoring from a header with his first touch.

"That was disappointing," Cahn said. "But we then had them camped on the edge of their box for the rest of the game. We created a few half chances and a few decent chances and got a penalty in the last minute that Reece put away under pressure. Although it was nice to salvage a point in the last minute, it was yet another game this year that we've felt we were by far the better side. Just two lapses in concentration, two individual mistakes, cost us. Teams can play against us and have two shots and score two goals. We miss open goals, we hit the woodwork, week-after-week. Hopefully us scoring late is a sign of our luck turning."

When asked who the standouts were for his side, Cahn replied: "Reece Papadimitrios has for two weeks running been outstanding. He has used his experience and ability to take control of the game. He's got an unbelievable passing range and has been able to pick teams off that either sit deep against us or press high, he's very difficult to play. Obviously he scored from the free kick and he held his nerve with the penalty later on. We've missed our last two penalties so there was a lot of pressure on that last kick of the game."

Meanwhile, Berries player coach Perry Moustakas was pleased with his side's efforts but disappointed with the outcome.

"It was a close game, but we feel like it's two points lost, we conceded in the 90th-plus," Moustakas told Football NSW. "But I'm really happy with my players, I'm really proud of them. It’s been a busy schedule for us and to put in the effort they did and to take the game to Central Coast made me really happy.

"We also had extra motivation because Central Coast throughout the week thought they had an easy game. They underestimated us so it was good to give them a big challenge."

Moustakas said his side's performance was "a massive team effort from the starting eleven and the subs that came on. It was fantastic, I'm proud of all the boys."
