    100%, unfortunately I think it’s all ours if I take an unbiased view of every team. Nix, scum and Roar getting better every week and building momentum. There is no way that Glory team will stay bottom. We started strong when other teams were still gelling however I now fear we are being left behind and with the cattle we have we are weaker on paper. There is a lot resting on Jair and he banging in 10 plus goals, i’m not confident. Wish I didn’t feel this way however this weekend was a reality check. We will be better but still spoon favourites.

    I’d like to see Rowles at LB and Fox and Ziggy in the middle.

    I think our biggest issue over the last few years is that the entire league makes a step up every year.

    There is little doubt that Okon had better cattle than the year before his tenure. Arguably Mulvey had an improved squad on paper over Okon. No one doubts that this year we actually have a pretty decent squad compared to last year, and the coaching is a HUGE step forward over previous.

    The issue is that everyone else is improving squads at the same rate - if everyone improves 20% year on year, we will always be last.

    That might be better defensively but Rowles won’t get forward to support our attacks and even if he did, his crossing isn’t great unfortunately.

    Better to keep him at CB where he does his best work and try Hatch at LB if we want to play the way Staj has the team currently set up.

    Lots of other HAL teams have youngsters at FB, so it’s nothing new and it might change our current predicament.

    This will always be the fundamental challenge for CCM and until MC finally understands that he will NEVER create any success with his Moneyball approach (and even that’s disingenuous when it’s just a penny-pinching one at best), we are doomed to repeat the cycle of disappointment and failure.

    I genuinely feel for Staj, it must be so frustrating having to jam square pegs in round holes or working with sub-par players, after having been able to select the best and brightest for the Matildas.

    This. He would be fine on the left in a back 3 where there isnt that expectation but the way 4 at the back operates these days he will be well out of his comfort zone. Will leave a bit of a hole on the left going forward. For now I think the best option is to get Hatch ready and work on how to get Clisby back to his best. If that means a rest so be it.

    I still think the more pressing issue is our attack and dependence on 1 or 2 individuals (DDS and Duric imo) to bring it all together. Moments that cost goals might be one or two in a whole game but we attack a lot more than that and haven’t been creating a lot of those moments for our opponents.

    Watching that game back i thought we were every chance of the win. Jamie young made 5 or 6 saves we hit the cross bar so we had our chances which is half the job. We fluffed a cert at the far post also. For a team with the line up they have it wasn't the worst away performance. How many rebound goals will you see this year from a clearance..... probably one.

    That we didn't see the need to sign a striker in preseason is either rank ineptitude or lack of funds
    We scream for a quality experienced AL level striker and with one, we arguably have 8 more points

    Watching the Roar game last week ... Kossie said a few times Matty runs were either to early or to late... personally If Jair does not work then I would play the young kid up front for the rest of the year... Matty should not start again....

    WSW have more funds than we could hope to have and they still took ages to land a striker who hasn’t had a huge impact here. You can choose to believe they weren’t going for one or you can accept that they most likely were and it just didn’t work out. Maybe they were too ambitious, maybe a bit unlucky but I’m glad they didn’t settle for someone average or rubbish and snap them up on a multi year deal early in the preseason like we normally would have hurting future season.

    In hindsight I wouldn’t have minded us going for Cilian Sheridan who I felt didn’t get a great go at nix due to Krishna and Williams form. Lots of people would have been disappointed with that though and thought it not aspirational enough. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

    we also had the other Korean player who was an attacker and that would have opened up our options and given more fire power too.

    Totally agree, players like DWH at the roar last year when they were rubbish were given a lot of game time and they are now benefiting from it. Murray needs a good ten plus games of starting to see how he goes not a game here and there. Arguably this should have happened last year for us when we were destined for the spoon, not in the first year of our re-build.

    Forgot about the other Korean player who as an attacker, he may have made a huge difference this season. I also thought Sheridan wasn't a bad option and better than any Striker we have at the moment (Jair not included as I'm reserving my judgement).

    I think they believed in Matty and Murray still, Majok was the rookie signing. Plus they were still looking for another they said but a few different ones didn’t come off.

    But the fact good strikers demand more coin is always going to be a real issue for us I fear.

    I'd argue we here knew we needed a striker better than Muz. So by proxy I'd assume SM knew...
    Part of the problem we have now is we're not playing to Muz's strengths. They keep bashing the high ball in. He needs an early ball coming across to run into or a sharp bouncing ball from the byline. The other side to that is I've noticed Muz starting his runs too late and not going near post.

    I don’t think that’s correct.
    Murray has had more starts and game time than DWH. Yet DWH has more goals and assists.

    Murray has had plenty of opportunity for mine. A young striker used to have to force his way into the 11 by getting goals or assists and causing headaches whenever he got some minutes late in games. Really have to take your chances. But at the Mariners... well... different story isn’t it. At most other clubs I can’t imagine Muzz getting anywhere near the minutes he’s had based on his performances. I’m not saying they’ve been bad, but most would expect considerably more.

    But unlike others I’m less and less convinced that Muzz will ever make it as a striker at this level. I fear he’s just not good enough on the ball, fast enough or strong enough to ever cut through. Decent all rounder and a great guy it seems - but you want to play striker at high levels then you have to be able to score regularly and win games for your side.

    I'm a little from column A and a little from column B. When Milan and Murray have been on together (rarely) they combine well. I can't help but think that Murray and Sang Ho Lee would have been very effective.

    DDS has not combined well with him. I'm more concerned with his end product. He seems to work a lot harder now but not much comes of it.

    I feel our whole team works a lot harder than they should.

    We don’t use the ball well at all and our off the ball movement is lacking.

    We do lack width with the narrow structure and I think that hurts our attack and defence as well.

    But at the end off the day even if we had Mclaren or Tov there is still that searing and unconscious lack of confidence across the rest of the park that makes us nervous when we get on the ball & contributes to poor passes and no time on the ball from opposition pressure.

    If we can snag a win every 3 or 4 games through poor performance from other teams and our fitness holding out I think that would even be the best we could hope for unfortunately.

    The similarities between the two are quite unique for their HAL careers to date;
    Muzz (aged 24)
    2018/19 Played 23 Starts 13 Goals 3
    2019/20 Played 6 Starts 3 Goals 1

    DWH (aged 27)
    2018/19 Played 20 Starts 11 Goals 5
    2019/20 Played 5 Starts 1 Goals 0

    Interesting facts;
    - 1 goal difference between them with Muzz playing in 4 more games.
    - Last 9 rounds of the 2018/19 HAL season;
    DWH started and played in all 9 rounds most of the time playing the full 90 mins and this is where he scored 4 of his 5 goals.
    Muzz also started in 7 playing for 90 mins in 4 of those games of the last 9 rounds which surprised me and scored 2 of his 3 goals.

    I stand corrected as Muzz has had more starts than I could recall from memory, only a bees dick between them so far from a stats perspective though.

    Apparently we tried with Jair in preseason but it was delayed due to technical difficulties. Tried to find the link to the info but can't remember where I saw it
