Different take here which might interest some...it was obvious Oli was a massive out tonight. Was playing him through injury against the Jest a horrible mistake from the coaching staff?

I have been quietly reading all these posts and waiting until I had a clear head before saying anything.
Last night I was massively disappointed but not annoyed.
Last night no one in a Mariners shirt gave up or gave less than their all.
Our team finished 3rd in the premiership, far above other squads with players with more experience, ability and quality. They got there by playing above their skill/experience level all season. All our young players will be that much better next year and again the year after.
To play well enough to achieve what they have is a massive achievement but it is not enough to win consistently week in and win trophies and most importantly the magic cannot always be produced on demand. Mistakes are made, miracle passes do not come off.
Sometimes effort and guts is enough to beat skill and experience, sometimes it is not. Last night was one of those times.
Thanks to all the players and staff who gave us a season far greater than any of us here could have expected or even hoped for.
I cannot, and indeed refuse to criticise anyone for last nights loss.
Well said AM!
Disappointed but never prouder

No lack of effort from any of the team last night . We did miss Tongyik and Ollie but that happens in sport.Stens was my MOTM .He was a bit tentative in the first twenty minutes but Milligan stirred him into action and he was immense after that.Urena made himself available but lacked support.
Yep. I'd say immense doesn't do it justice. MOM, with Birra a close second. I thought Harper was on the money with his comments about the two massive plays of Stenz just before half time (somewhere in the 30's minutes), that rallied the troops.
It was a big ask for Stenz to go to the front both physically and in terms of leadership in midfield due to Ollie's absence. In the circumstances I think he did very well and left nothing on the field. Perhaps a few others did not show up with their best games.
Ollie's loss as the leader was huge. That midfield partnership worked so well for us all season with the two complementing each other. It's a team game...
As has been said, our big issue has been the final third. Shit crosses, poor runs, crap passing, Urena has been a class above but mostly on his own.
This lack of strike power is not untypical of a building team: get the defence right, then midfield, then attack. Unfortunately (as noted earlier by someone) we may lose some of the backs and mids before we get good strikers.
To lose against 10 is disappointing, though I think luck was against us. That's football.
A great year though, something for everyone, coaches, players and fans, to be proud of.

I see a comment about having too much too drink, hell it was a 20-30 minute line up in all bars in the CCLC and the same in the stadium once we saw the queues we didn't bother. Archies I booked 4 day in advance was an absolute joke, my Surf and turf, the steak was like old boots and the vegetables all caramelized and cremated. That's the second time I have dined at Archies never again. They also managed to lose 2 chicken snitzel orders so mates went without. Really missed Baker Street Cafe

This is exactly what I posted in my pic. It says nothing that it needs to be a shot on goal like you explained.
It states that a save is stopping a ball going into or very close to goal.

That's obviously not the case with this offside decision - there, it was stopping a through ball.

That decision was indefensible and dead wrong. Honestly, the red card is more arguable because of the handball situation (if he scored it would have been taken away), but personally I think the decision was in line with the spirit of the law - the handball only occurred because it deflected off the player who committed the foul, AS they were lunging in for the foul. I doubt IFAB ever meant accidental handling by an attacker in THAT situation to be an issue.

It's weird....I've been more upset the next day after normal matches.
I think nerves were a bit of an issue - and we still need to find ourselves a key striker; there weren't a lot of opportunities created, and maybe that's on the mids, but it's also about the attack finding themselves in a position - but we need to increase our chances of capitalising on the opportunities that were made. We're not doing that reliably, which is why we really, really struggle when teams park the bus (as they did).

Everybody tried. I don't feel the need to say 'this player didn't do that' or 'that player needed a better effort'.

We made it here - and that's absolutely amazing.

Just disappointing - yet not surprising - that the game was decided on a refereeing blunder. And of course we're the ones that got screwed by it. Refs are killing this league.

Playing against 10men.....honestly, I think most teams are unable to really make the most of a 1 player advantage. I think we really missed Ollie then - I would have hoped to see us settle down and just keep probing, keep making them run, tire them out.

I don't even care about their 2nd goal......at that point our players were panicking (again, missing Ollie's calm leadership), and just desperate.

Ultimately, I think experience, pressure and lack of Ollie might have been the keys tonight. All the overall, game-wide problems, about not taking advantage of 10men, that sort of thing, I think stem to those.

We definitely missed RT too.

I thought the crowd looked closer to 15k on TV....oh well. Top effort from Bay 16. Loved the 'back from the pub' too.
Its a nice wee dram Capt.
It's not a bad one, one of my favourites actualy - $65 at First Choice right now. It comes down to $70ish reasonably often,

I think my wife and I got through about $40 worth of it last night......and a bottle of wine....on top of the 6-pack I drank during the game......:D:D

Good thing I had the house to myself during it. So much screaming. So much jumping up and down, getting off my seat, sitting on the coffee table.....I think the entire extra time I was kneeling on the floor about a foot away from the TV. Intense night.

How didn't Meredith play bouman on? Love to hear a understanding from steb.
To every one who's saying we gaveit up, if boumans goal was adjudicated correctly, no extra time, no problems.
We got the shaft again
I remember this sort of thing happened a few games ago and Delovski same up with some nonsense about 'oh, because it was close it was a reflex which means he didn't play at it'. I'd say it's the same crap.

Thing is....that's not a thing in the laws. At all. Reflex? No, that's not a defense to 'played the ball'. And, in that and this instance, it clearly wasn't. Clearly he had enough time to react, chose to lunge for the ball and didn't quite get there.

It stings, because that was the only goal in regulation time.

Yeah, you see the 10 man syndrome all the time and we cross and flick and chip and try the usual things against the parked bus.

We really needed again a change in tactics or outside the box thinking from Staj that didn’t really come.

We really needed Hatch front and centre for longer to run at them and unfortunately even play for someone taking us down in the box if we have to.

But most are just summing up it was a good year I understand that but I feel you in the fact it was literally 45 minutes + added time against 10 men.
That’s a feckin long time of going through the motions.
Yeah look in hindsight going through the motions is a better way to sum it up than claiming they surrendered. With the man advantage I expected them to go in for the kill more, really exploit the gap in MFC's defence whether it's a static gap or a fluid one through MFC putting bodies in motion constantly to try and disguise the gap. But you can only disguise that gap for so long and the team with the man advantage (especially needing a goal) can either keep passing it back and forth hoping for an opportunity, or they can seize the opportunity. That "Finish him" killer instinct was everywhere last night bar on the pitch for the last half an hour of the game and this is what I meant by calling it a meek surrender.

I think playing Alou Kuol was a mistake. It has been clear for some time that he isn't up to the task and is not putting in the required effort. The other young kid who came on last week would have had far more impact.
TBF I did think Kuol put in a lot more effort last night .He is still very raw and I do wonder how he will go at Stuttgart-he has a lot of technical deficiences.I would have liked Reec to have had a go but he was not on the bench-probably a better prospect than Smylie for next season.
