Disappointing to lose Oar - he's been one of our best players, and it's always a shame when we can't hang onto our better players. We need to be able to hang onto these players otherwise the 'rebuild' is nonexistent. Although he should have been capable of scoring a few himself.
Of course it's disappointing that we still desperately need some gaps filled yet nothing will happen this transfer window.
Particularly disappointing to lose your captain, of course. Hope this doesn't affect the mood of the team.

this announcing your new team before the season is not close to over shits me right up the f**king wall

Hmmm...
While I don't like these mid-season announcements, I think there are two points worth considering

1) From memory Matt Millar's move to Jets was to be kept hush hush. Not out of respect for Mariners or anything...more so to protect Millar from fan backlash. I think it may have been an assurance that Lawrie gave him?
But it's hard to keep this news from the media.

And this Oar news came from SST...

2) It's probably more important for a new club to announce their inaugural signings...to generate excitement among their new fanbase.

I don’t blame Oar for any move and we have no idea if the club was even offering an extension and if so at what price. Oar feels like a luxury we can’t afford IMO. He seems like a good character and works hard but hasn’t produced a lot of end product and we could probably have a cheaper player doing largely the same thing. Fine if Macarthur have the cash to burn but we don’t. We could afford to run a lesser left wing like Wales and put the extra funds towards a quality CB to partner Rowles. Or give Birraz a pay rise, or any number of more effective spending options.

We look much better than we did this time last year so hopefully we can use that to tempt players looking for game time that wouldn’t touch us with a 10ft pole under Mulvey.

Good bye won’t be missed. Has been very ineffective.

Has given us effort and I believe he will continue to. But so have a lot of players over the last couple of years. We need more than effort.

Also as it’s for the new team, there is no hope of it being a mid season transfer.

Now Staj can use the money on a actual quality attacking winger who produces results. We’ve been missing this for a long time.

This seems to be a common theme. When discussing re-signings the first two mentioned are always Milan and Birraz. Tommy puts in a lot of effort which I'm sure Staj likes. However, Tommy would be on a pretty good wicket and the fact that he isn't one of the first mentioned is not because of his character or effort but because his effort rarely leads to a end result. (BTW - he is not alone there).

TBH our visa players also need to improve. Only Milan and possibly Kim (missed too much time to endorse more) are at the level required of a visa player. McGlinchey has been passed by, Jair is yet to impress. Ziggy looks to be a good professional but he also has his limitations.

If we can hold onto Birraz, Milan and Kim then we are still where we have been for a few seasons needing a quality CB (to partner Kye), AM and striker.

I’ve really liked having Tommy at the club, he bought a level of legitimacy having an ex Socceroo in the squad. He has given nothing but effort through one of the darkest periods in our history. However given the level of his reputation and pay pocket, it’s hard to see how he has lived up to his potential.
I wish him well on the future, but in regards to CCM, the real effectiveness of this move will be shown when we find out who we have recruited in his place.
Lots were up in arms about TH not being offered a contract last year - until we saw Milan.

I’m still surprised that no one else picked him or Jem up when we didn’t. Compared to some of the foreigners in the league I thought they would have done enough to secure an offer somewhere. Would have made Victory a better team.

The amount of injuries he had would not have helped his cause. You need to get every pound of flesh out of your imports.

I would be giving Milan a contract and then give him a scouting role over the winter. He has played in a number of the Balkan leagues and I would have him assist Staj over there identifying players.

I would not be adverse to all our imports coming from that region. Their players are technically excellent and they seem to appreciate the opportunity and lifestyle out here and work hard to succeed.

Their success hit rate is far greater than the South Americans who often seem to have a entitled arrogance about their demeanour.

If all his time out was legit injuries not “injured” then yeah that’s fair. I thought Jem had done enough too but maybe he was after too much money or something.

couldn’t agree more Mick, an ex player I know had 1:1 coaching at a young age from a Yugoslav coach for technical ability. As you say also an opportunity for a better quality of life is often appreciated and not taken for granted.

I hope the Mariners are smart on Milan and lock him in.

Mulvey did screw him around. I remember watching a preseason game against WSW at Pluim. He was obviously injured with his groin at about the 60th minute mark. Instead of taking him off he played a full game. Could hardly walk at full time and missed the next five weeks.

This is something other clubs don’t see though. They just see the number of weeks he was missing from the season and view it as a liability.

Then wait till the end of current season ....that’s still 6 months to rev up your new fan base, surely they can manage to stoke interest in six months given the power of social media

Ahemmm..... Wales... All party and no performance. 3 goals in 50 A-League matches as a striker... No team can afford that sort of dead wood.

1000% totally agree. Most South Americans are just over for an easy ride in the sun, in my very humble opinion. MIlan represents hard work and results.
