I know you won't....but.....link?

Sacking someone for speaking about their religious beliefs is a dangerous precedent as well. Folau had prior warnings.

I think it’s a dangerous, prehistoric and vile attitude for anyone to have, let alone promote via social channels, but in a country with freedom of religion, and a right to freedom of opinion and expression, we get very upset when someone speaks out against the norm.

He has freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Is he being imprisoned for his statements? Is he being restricted in performing his religion?

People simply don't understand freedom of speech. It doesn't mean the right to say absolutely anything - and it doesn't mean you can't be help accountable socially for your actions. Calling him out on his hate speech isn't denying free speech - it's expressing it perfectly.

And saying that gays are going to hell is hate speech. One could argue the same for saying atheists are going to hell (the fact that atheists don't believe in hell isn't the point).

And as somebody in the public sphere, he's always representing his employer and organisation. That's part and parcel of the job. So anything he does or says is accountable to the rugby body.

It's a bit like when people make racist comments on facebook then whinge about being fired.....but they had their employer stated on fb. Do that, and what you're saying links back to your employer. No different to doing that sort of thing while wearing your employer's clothing. For such a high-profile position as a professional sportsperson, you're never not connected to the employer.

AND he had already been warned. He should 100% be dropped.

On a final point, FOLAU is the one who should be criticised for not respecting freedom of religion. After all, his critics here aren't saying he shouldn't be religious - just that at the very least he shouldn't be passing judgement on others. Nobody is telling him how to live his life - yet he is the one demanding others change their life to match his.

Freedoms? He's not having his stripped - he's trying to strip them from others. He's not respecting my freedom of religion here, or that of the sexuality of others.

Also, he'd be party to a code of conduct - which he has now breached on more than 1 occasion. I can't see any rational defence of him here.

Shabow should probably be let go. Supporting a 'homosexuals will burn in hell' narrative as a professional sports player and role model in this day and age, in this society, entirely against the law to boot - it just can't be condoned by the club.

Yeah, I'd be okay with that. At least the club needs to say something publicly about this. No loss if we give him the flick.

Having said that, I'd also be okay with the club having a bit of a word / counselling session. If, for instance, it was a misplaced notion of 'freedom of speech of a fellow athlete' then doing something while giving a 2nd chance (ie fine of a week's salary to go to a charity, and a first and final warning) would be reasonable as well. Coming down too harshly might harm the club. I'm happy to accept a misplaced loyalty - he hasn't explicitly supported Folau's comments

I don’t think giving him the boot would be a reasonable response to a first time offence. Talk to the bloke and maybe get him to post an apology. Let him keep those views for a private setting.

Certainly it could be used as a learning experience and team building thing. But he does have some bible line on his insta so it is likely a deep held view. You're caught somewhere in between. Can't vilify him but can't support that garbage either.

Now for a ramble....

What does annoy in all this is that these guys may think gays, drinks, fornicators, isolators etc are going to hell but hell was written into the Bible by the Catholic church about same time reincarnation was erased. Not to mention the selective picking and choosing of single lines to benefit an arguement.
That book they believe in basically states as it's main moral point, don't be a c##t.

Agree captain, my comments were more around Shabow than Falau, and people calling him out against supporting someone with the same religious beliefs. Common sense says that the timing is poor, but he hasn’t thrown around hateful comments himself. And while I personally think that those religious beliefs are archaic, I have to respect the fact that 38% of our country actually in some way agree with them, having voted against same sex marriage.

Falau’s use of his platform was downright stupid, especially after having previously received warnings. So many of these sportstars lose sight of the fact that they are both an employee of a larger club, and are representing sponsors companies, and have certain responsibilities around that.

He’s obviously a gronk.

I actually got a little laugh out of his line about idolaters - I thought it a little ironic that a religious man has a go at people for worshipping false idols - but that’s my belief.

I'd hang my hat on that outcome

I’m all for people believing in the invisible man in the sky ( you know the guy whose biography has killed more people than cancer) BUT...a gay friend of mine got pounded into the ground one night and the clown in court said the Bible gave him permission, now I’m not for one minute thinking for one second that Shabow would assault someone. But some violent nitwit who supports Falou and his beliefs will ...so the post was probably a bad idea...anyway back to the football conversation

Recky.....people up on a charge will use whatever they can to get off or lessen the sentence. Its part of the game they play.

People that have never been to church in their lives swear on the bible...........because it means their bullshit defence must be true.

Well, that arsehole had a pile of cross waving mates out front of the court, supporting his opinions.... so I guess we’re just gonna have to agree to disagree......Like I said...back to the football conversation

Pain deserves a shot at a more ambitious club. He’s been a great team player and has shown the heart and spirit too often missing in modern football. He’ll be missed. Makes me actually wish Western (please get a proper name identifier) United, well.

Ambitious is definitely the case.
Would have liked to seem him have a crack outside Oz though.

So if they have announced those two does that mean it’s time to clarify Millard situation? Or do you feel it’s more so we can say goodbye to pain?
