Graham, Aspro and Rowles all have the makings of developing into great centre halves.
However, If I were their manager I would be looking elsewhere if they are to develop further.
They are learning nothing here.

After last night if some sort of drastic but positive action is not taken immediately with regards to management of the Team, the Club may as well just pack it in.

I have a question mark next to Rowles.

He was horrible last night.

Clisby was unfairly dropped after last week’s performance. With Aspro having a poor game last night and Graham being absolute dogshit our defence was horrible.

And how the hell did Henrique win so many balls and headers?

Aspro went quiet after he fell awkwardly on his arm, he stayed on but lost some confidence. Hope it’s not too serious.

'F*cking dog' - Mulvey blames ref for Simon spray
Central Coast Mariners coach Mike Mulvey has attempted to shift blame on to the referees after two of his players were sent off for dissent in a 5-3 loss to Brisbane Roar on Friday night.

Both Aiden O'Neill and Matt Simon picked up second yellow cards late in the game for swearing towards the officials with Mariners captain Simon guilty of a particularly poor tirade.

After being given his marching orders in injury time, Simon stormed after the referee and could be heard calling him a 'f*cking dog'.

The incident came shortly after the Mariners striker felt he should have been awarded a penalty with Mulvey declaring the referees played a large part in Simon's behaviour.

"I have to be careful what I say here because I don’t want to regret something I say later on,” Mulvey said.

"It looks like there’s a predetermined situation where Matt Simon is a bully and he never gets a free-kick because of that and it’s just absolutely ridiculous. You need to referee the game in the way that you see it.

"We just did not get anything. Matt didn’t get anything. It’s not just the first week too, it’s been happening time and time again.

"The players get frustrated, the fans get frustrated and then you see the end result.

"I think the referee brought a lot of the situation on himself. The same way we look at the way we’ve performed, hopefully, the A-League has a look at the way the officiating happened."

Central Coast were handed seven yellows to Brisbane's one on Friday but the Roar were guilty of 15 fouls to the Mariners' 14.

The 5-3 loss has all but condemned Central Coast to a second-straight wooden spoon with the club now eight points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Former Mariner Josh Rose took aim at the club on social media after the match, pointing the finger at management and Mulvey for the side's poor performances.

The 3 M’s are killing our once great club. Mielekamp, Mulvey and Montgomery clearly not even close where they need to be to do their jobs. Tough decisions need to be made for this club to go forward. #AnnounceHiariej #headsshouldroll #EnoughIsEnough

You let in stoppable goals at critical times you will cost games - irrespective of anything else.

I of course agree, our system is poor and we need to improve defence no doubt. If I was an opposing coach I think the back 3/5 is tactically much easier to explain, drill and exploit than most other formations. It’s so clear to players when and how you go forwards. And as have already said on here, you need better quality defenders, it’s a false premise the idea that it offers additional security.

Most times our opponents win the ball, they have acres of space to run into and pass. And now we’ve given up the press that accompanied it through our best weeks of football this year. We’re a joy to play against. Throw in midfield passengers like Hoole, no goal scoring striker, crocks everywhere masquerading as squad depth and an inept keeper and we’re deserved spooners.

A big problem our back 3/5 is that it never becomes a 5 in defence. At best it becomes an unbalanced 4 with a winger (trying to be a wing back), getting back and pretending to defend.

So do I, but he has shown some potential that may be able to be developed.

I doubt that will happen with the ridiculous defensive back 3 we are playing at the moment. He has been playing as a left centre back but with no fullback/wingback getting back, thus he is getting pulled out of position trying to cover someone else's responsibility.

All of our three centre backs need more guidance in defence. I doubt that it is coming from the keeper or the coaching staff.

I think this nails it. Like most defenders, he looks much better when he doesn’t have an opposing player either side of him, there is not 20 metres between him and the next defender, and he is instead capable of showing the attacker the sideline instead of trying to defend the huge amount of space our formation gifts when our wingbacks are up the park.

Also I think Mick is right about Clisby, I’ve been on his case the past couple months as his form dipped, but he deserved to retain his position this week.

Our defensive structure is really non existent and is best described as panic stations with all hands to the pumps.

Unfortunately there are too many holes in the hull for the pumps to keep up.

Agree, I actually cut our defenders slack based on the higher difficulty of the challgenes our set up entails.

I thought Graham was our best defender last night and for an 18 year old has a lot of promise at HAL level. Don’t expect we’ll see him beyond the end of this season either.

You wont. I spoke to him and he told me he had never played in heat like this before but he would be FAF when he returned to Sheffield.

You cant take players who have played in a 4 their whole lives mid season and tell them we are going to a bakc 3 but we dont have any specialist wing backs
Especially if they are unfit

That was the first game I`ve seen in a month.
Sadly we have slipped further into turmoil.
I don`t blame the players one bit as a whole, some individuals for instance (Kennedy) just aren`t up to A League standard.
The sad thing is though we, as fans can see it but somehow the coach doesn`t.
It`s just demoralising for the players who work hard to be punished by a lack of quality in goals
I was one of those that supported the appointment of Mulvey as coach.

The chat we had on the night he was announced as coach gave us all hope that the good times were coming back to Gosford.
That rhetoric has worn thin,I don`t know how hamstrung MM has been by MC but the results show him as the worst A League coach ever .
For all the reasons named (by others) above he has to go.

Shaun has been a major disappointment too.
The lack of signings and vision for the future is just abhorrent and the BS that comes out of the club is just so soul destroying.

It`s just so disheartening to hear fans at the game saying they won`t be back and how disappointed they are.
I`ve found myself telling friends that I have battered housewife syndrome.
I just dont know why I keep going back after getting hurt at every game.

We are dying a slow and miserable death, it`s like watching a loved one with cancer slowly withering away.
I love this club and cherish my membership.
I will support them to the end, either my end or the clubs.
Mariners`til I Die

I have now reviewed the reply.

1) BK was at fault for goal 3 and 4.
2) Rowles' and Hoole's yellows were not deserved - the rest were correct. Rowles was blocking the ball and the Roar player followed through and kicked him. Is he not allowed to defend. Hoole was running fro the ball . DWH slows and goes across Hoole to block, Foul should have been the other way.
3) Graham taken out by an offside player for Roar's second goal. Obvious error.
4) Henrique onside for Brisbane 3rd goal.
5) DWH, Tongyik and McKay all should have been on yellows.
6) Penalties not given
32 min Tongyik foul on Simon.
54 foul on Simon
59 Roar defender handballs the ball out of the area.
63 DWH handball
64 Neilsen handball
68 Foul on Simon give as Simon foul. Neilson initiated contact should have been a penalty or no foul either way.
91 Foul on Simon

I counted at least a dozen definite errors by Lucas and only one was in our favour Did we get the rub of the green - no. Were we undisciplined - yes. Did that colour Lucas's thinking - probably. After watching the game again I am still convinced that it was an awful performance by Lucas. However, it was a worse performance by us.

In spite of all the penalty shouts many were soft or ball to hand. At best I would say the second Roar goal should not have stood and we should have had a penalty in the 32min and we could have scraped a draw - which wasn't enough anyway..

O'Neill and Simon were both stupid. Simon I suspect will get a longer holiday and should not be given back the armband. Unacceptable behaviour - especially from a leader - even if if he he thought he had been hardly done by.

Next game is not until 9th so hopefully Tom can recover. I'd like to see Shabow and Nisbet get time and Hoole not get any. I'd be tempted to put Gauci in but does he deserve to debut behind such a porous defence. He may rise to the occasion or we may shatter a young keepers confidence.

That goal article is hilarious - Simon wasn't marched for dissent, it was a second yellow for a shithouse tackle, he mouthed off afterwards.

I thought the same thing, Kosi also said the same thing after the game. However Fox sports immediately produced a shot of the player onside as the through ball that Graham headed away was kicked. The player was onside, but there was also a question of him deliberately tunneling under Graham in the air which caused the clearing header to lack power and direction.
