ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I’m asking for rebuttals to this concern Ancient, not stating this as my position.

To an extent I don’t think anyone can argue we’re not a poisoned chalice for any coach and so there’s a real possibility that firing Mulvey will only depeens the hole we’re in, but we may have to cop that anyway because he’s failed so badly and as Turbo says when it comes to fans it’s just untenable.

Again, was trying to open discussion on this to hear opinions. I’m actually not pro Mulvey staying, but I do fear we’re in a lose lose.

Disagree was the closest thing I could find to a "no".

Ok for a rebuttal, He has had a good chance to pick a squad of his own choosing. Massive fail.

He has taken ages to work out somewhere close who were the worthwhile players to start, but still has not got that right.

His back 3 structure without wingbacks is just unworkable. It gives an extra player in attack but does not work in defence. Then his answer is to pack everyone in the box and pray.

He really has failed in every category and must go.

Compared to Okon's second year for what may be classed as similar circumstances. Crap previous season, massive turn around in players.

Okon's recruitment was good apart from the lack of a striker. if Asdrubal had been O'Donovan, Okon would still be here.

Mariners were a basket case then, but Okon was still able to recruit good players.

If we sign a competent manager, players will come.

If we keep Mulvey, I can see us losing Aspro, Tommy, O'Neill (supposedly already gone), and Pain. In fact I would not be surprised if these players are not already in negotiations elsewhere if not already signed.

Give Mulvey another year and I can see the next big announcement of signings for next year as being Hoole and Kennedy getting 2 or 3 year contracts.

Gotcha. Love it, great post. Agree on all counts.

I would put good money on a bet that Aspro will be next. However I do not think I would be offered very good odds.

That’s starting to look like a signature move this season, sign emerging or recovering talent to a 1 year deal and have them poached when they impress.

Tommy and O'Neill are gone

We’ve all known Aiden will go back to Burnley.
But when it comes to our lord and saviours future. You must elaborate, not make a vague statement. If you have legit news on the situation f**king share it. We all love the bloke here.

No, I think he enjoys others begging him for more info when he thinks he has news

My thinking leans toward the fact that he hasn't been re-signed (note my spelling Bikini, lol). I feel that if the club wanted him, an offer would have been made already, and rumours would be around.
I can't imagine why we would not want our most skillful player, especially when he has let it be known that he wants to stay. Unless of course he's been telling porkies like that other one.

Yes, but that assumes the football department is the slightest bit competent.. Bit of a mistake.. Forgotten Millar already? Lol
If Nisbet is true (and the other youngsters) then this club has a more serious rot than I realises. I've supported the club through a lot. Repeated unethical behaviour towards players will make me seriously consider whether the club deserves my support.
It's Lachie Wales all over again.[/QUOTE]

On Friday night, Central Coast Mariners will meet Brisbane Roar in a six-pointer as the teams fight to avoid the inglorious history associated with title of the wooden spoon.

Both these teams have had abysmal seasons so far, sharing only three wins from their 38 combined fixtures. The Mariners have somehow managed to have a season worse than last year, when they ended bottom of the table with only 20 points and confirming their status as wooden spooners for the second time in three years.

Fox Sports pundit Robbie Slater said in commentary that although Central Coast are last, they are not close to being the worst team he has seen in the A-League, and he is right. This extends to the Roar and the Wanderers as well; on numerous occasions, each of these teams have performed well enough to take three points but surrendered leads.

The most extreme example of this is the Mariners, who have scored the first goal in 10 of their games and have been leading for roughly 399 minutes in their matches, yet they have only won once this season. It is hard to say this is a categorically bad team when they have led in more than half of their matches so far.

The common reason for both team’s poor displays is their porous defences, which struggle against any A-League attack. Both teams have conceded 43 goals so far this season, with the Mariners still searching for their first clean sheet 20 rounds in.

Brisbane’s disastrous 4-3 loss to Adelaide was a case in point. They had a lead, and a numerical advantage on the pitch, but unforgivably let both go as they threw the match away.

Even though these teams clearly have issues at the back, it is not like they are so irreparable that they are beyond fixing.

Yes, the Roar and Mariners have been on the end of thrashings, but they are not routinely getting swatted away by the rest of the league. They are competing at a similar level to the rest of the field, but just cannot maintain the composure and level-headedness required for the full 90 minutes.

That is bordering on blasphemy, ;)

I'm still hopeful that Tom will be here next season. While many clubs are now active we are notoriously slow. Tom wants to stay and you would think would not take the first offer from elsewhere a la Millar. I think he is professional enough (even if we aren't) to come to the club and say he has these offers for next season but would like to stay.

Whether Mulvey values him as much as we all do is the next hurdle. He would have to replace him with someone pretty special not to annoy the few remaining fans.
