What are people's thoughts on our general formation under MM? 4-3-3? Anyone want to hazard a guess at a starting lineup?
My prediction would be Roar-style 4-3-3 with one holder and two eights in midfield rather than a ten, with McGlinchey and Hiariej the two eights. For the FFA Cup something like Kennedy - McGing, Cisse, Rowles, Clisby - Melling, Hiariej, McGlinchey - Hoole, Gameiro, Pain. I wouldn't be surprised to see Shabow get a start for that game too.

Of those I'd still expect a new striker to come into the starting eleven in place of Gameiro, and hopefully new signings coming in for McGlinchey at eight and McGing at right back (my pick would be Retre if we let De Silva go to Sydney). Golec and Aspro could come into that team as well, possibly pushing Cisse into midfield if all three are fit and in form.

Matty will be a starting player....but can also see Corey as well. It wouldn't surprise me to see Gameiro on the right side of Midfield depending on our formation and who else we sign.

Heaven forbid :(:(:(:(
So signing a decent striker was a ruse then ???

I'm sure we are getting a decent striker. Just believe we wouldn't have lured Matty away from Sydney to warm the bench. Think he will play just behind the fabled decent striker.

Lured him away ??? .......... his services were no longer required.:doh:
When announced his main attributes were listed as his backround culture and experience to pass on. Sorry but not a simon fan on the field , on the bench yeah !.

Think the Smurfs were willing to offer him another year, on the bench it would have been though.

Don't usually have too much to say but read with interest daily. Archie Thompson summed us up last year on Fox. We were a side in the McKinna era and GA to an extent that opposition sides hated playing. When they turned up at Bluetongue (Central Coast Stadium) they knew they were in for a hard physical game. We were not a bunch of skillful players or a team of potential. Blokes like Hutch, Gumps, Monty, Jedi, Simon, Boogs etc etc made there opposite number know they were in for a tough day if they anted the ball off them.
McKinna enforced the community club mantra within the players and this somewhat started to fall away following the GA appointment. Too often in the Moss and TW era i would see 6 or so players sitting at the Shell servo at the end of the freeway waiting for the bus to pick them up. Most people who commute to Sydney will tell you how much they hate it. How could these blokes have enjoyed travelling up the freeway to put in everything in training and playing. Most people who don't like the commute just look for a job closer to home.
MMM saying that players must live on the coast is a step in getting our team back. He may not be recruiting big name stars or the most gifted players. He has recruited players who want to play for this club and players that want to let the opposition know they are in for a game.
Not sure what to say on the DDS situation. I don't think he realises that he is a role model for our younger fans. Doesn't set them a good example of what a contract is when he is wanting out. Most of us sign contracts for phones etc and either have to wait out the duration with an outdated phone or pay it out to get the new phone.
Great post.

Yeah mitigating the backlash angle was my thought too.

I have little sympathy for the coaches who plead insufficient funds if they wanted in knowing the deal.

Okon was obviously not promised something and then it was not given. Or boy would we know about it.

However he promised a lot and did not deliver. And like DDS if he didn’t simply give up through the last third of the season, things might have gone very differently for him and he’d be in another job right now.
Didn’t I read somewhere that Tom went to mc representing the player’s dissatisfaction with the coaching staff???
.............. that resulted in the okon meeting and subsequent dummy spit by him and walking out.

I thought it was Wout...

Matty can and will score goals. I’m more confident of that than with any striker we’ve had bar Roy in the past 4 years

Gameiro is a real Smokey imo. Attitude is brilliant and I watched him from pretty early and honestly thought he would be the future of Aussie strikers before things fell apart for him.

Pain hoole and weemac can all score.

So we’re in better shape than last year where kubi and Adsrubal were so unlikely to score and Powellnot far behind.

As to formation.

I’d take a 442. But I think anchoring the midfield alone and what that entails would waste sone of Toms best utility. And as our current best player, that’s not something I’d want to do.

Re formation though. 433 or 4231 seem most likely, based on our squad right now, as in this was it - ie no third striker, numbers in the attack mids, I think a 4123 would be a solid option. But really it’s what Big Al said and too hard to speculate with much conviction right now.

Interesting article in him in the local paper today. Said he was clocked @35klms an hour last season which is one of the fastest in the league and he said that’s for someone who is supposed ti be broken.

I think he could be very effective for the last 20-30. But the whole game consistently is to much after his history. No matter how good he looks

That is interesting. (cheers didn’t see that)
especially as top speed along with agility is often what’s killed off quickest by serious repeat injuries.

For mine, our squad is no stronger at all - a couple of decent signings might change that but crocks and NPL players is no better than what we had to clear out IMHO
Can’t agree on this sorry, whilst I understand the disappointment over the lack of (up til now) Hollywood signing, the squad is better overall than it was last season and if Mulvey holds everyone accountable (unlike our previous coach it would seem), that will likely prove the difference imo.

There are still signings to come that could/should improve things further, so we all need to be patient. Better that than panic-buying another assdribble surely?

That's amazing as that was the fastest speed of any player in last night's state of origin.

. hey I understand completely ... I think the marquee situation was purely a flexibility thing - but don't forget that before the start of last season we were promised a full cap spend (maybe more). Brama was also a late, opportunistic signing which would not have been cheap either

. the part of the 'business plan' that I have not understood was that an expected higher gate in the first part of the season was actually meant to fund the additional spend come January

. with regard to Asdrubal's replacement - money was available for a tilt at Giannou ... when that fell through Okon 'settled' with Skepitis. By the time that Okon decided he needed more it was too late (the money was off the table)

I think you will find that we already had Skapetis when Giannou came up. Okon decided he would stick with what he had which included Skapetis. There was money available that he chose not to use
