What a line up

3 at the back when a 0-0 is enough

Leckie at wing back

No Mooy who will probably come on later

Timmy up front

Troisi and Rogic in same side

Balls to the wall from Ange. Leaving with a bang if we loose

Also why did Ange tell the Syrians we weren't playing Mooy. It's been in the news all day.

Tactical fail

He shouldn't be on the left. No left foot. Ruka should have been there from start and Kruse could have subbed Leckie.

Mooy's pirawets are slowing our break so Saudi's can get back and set.

Rigic got to get one soon. Thailand and Saudi he's hit every thing but the back of the net

Our slow counter attack was painful to watch for 120 minutes, the only quick breaks we made produced two goals. Talk about making it hard for ourselves and no clean sheet. The national team will start to threaten the Mariners no clean sheet record soon and for a team struggling to score goals conceding is not ideal. The next two games are a real test and I'm not feeling confident. Was Brad Smith really injured or a tactic by Ange to try and trick them that Mooy wasn't playing. He said he was going to mix things up so could have been intentional. Not sure it worked 100% but Mooy with Rogic caused them a lot of grief.

Kruse was immense last night. He made so many unrewarded runs and kept going all game. He seemed more like a forward than a wing back after Smith went off and did reasonably well getting back. Plus delivered the ball for the winner. For those of you saying Ruka should have been there have a look at the crosses he delivered then look at Kruse's. Ruka shouldn't even be cleaning Kruse's boots let alone starting in front of him.

Mooy and Milligan really slow our play down. I'm really surprised that Irvine and Luongo didn't get a chance last night. Milligans play is getting worse and we are really missing Jedinak. I hope Jedi is back for the next round. Also replacing leckie is going to be difficult for that first game.
Both Milligan and leckie suspended for first intercontinental match.

Apart from one cross, Kruse was again a waste of space. His #1 preference is the back pass. His crossing (apart from the one to Timmy), final pass, shooting and general play was abysmal. Shit in the air and on the ground. Yet again, Timmy showed how to be clinical.

With Ange leaving, here's hoping Kruse goes too.

The Caltex Socceroos will play Honduras in their final two qualification matches for the FIFA World Cup in Russia next year.

After last night’s victory over Syria, Australia’s opponent in the two-legged intercontinental play-off was decided in matches played today in Central and North America.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) awaits official confirmation of the fixture details from FIFA, however the matches will take place during the international window next month. The return leg will be played at Stadium Australia in Sydney. Ticketing details will be released in the coming days.

FFA Chief Executive David Gallop said he was expecting a big crowd in Sydney for the second leg of the must-win tie.

“The whole nation is going to be behind the team when they play in Honduras but our FIFA World Cup fate will be decided right here in Sydney. We have every confidence that Ange (Postecoglou) and the players can get the job done. It will be a massive night for football and the wonderful memories of the Uruguay game in 2005 will get the turnstiles spinning,” said Gallop.

Caltex Socceroos Head Coach Postecoglou said detailed preparations for the matches were already well advanced.

"I am aware of reports today suggesting that I will step down as Head Coach of the Socceroos next month. My sole focus is on preparing the team for our final two qualifying matches. I will not let anything compromise the team’s journey on getting to a fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup,” said Postecoglou.

Gallop said he had spoken to Postecoglou about the reports and agreed the focus should be on the November matches.

“Beyond that, should we qualify, there is a period of some months until the World Cup and we agreed that we will need to lock in our set up as soon as possible to maximise our preparation time,” concluded Gallop.

Kruse was horrible but the winning goal was a lovely ball....just as my mate slagged him for passing/crossing like a 10yo.
Ruka looked very ordinary but its exciting to meet a Kruse fan....fairly exclusive club.

One cross late in the game after over a dozen stupid passes. Had to be a massive fluke. Credit to him for making the run, of course.

Well, I'm sure poster glue's departure will do great for team morale.
Mr Vi$ion could be facing a bit of trouble after his goal celebration, in the shape of a T, was designed to promote a company he's representing. What a deadset muppet.

Kruse was atrocious. Mooy....highly overrated. Milligan? Always WAS highly overrated.
Rogic still plays sexy, sexy football. We have very few players who can run the ball through defenders like he can. Leckie really held our team together too.
Except in the opening minutes when he receives the ball on his right foot in front of the goal and refuses the shoot. What the actual....

Hands up - I'm a Mooy fanboy. Love his vision and ball control. He'd be better if he was surrounded by competent players like Rogic. While a big fan of Rogic (again, lovely vision and ball control) he does cough up the ball quite often. Just imagine if Mooy and Rogic had the heading ability of Cahill. They should, they're tall enough.
