The most enjoyable part watching was playing a game with myself called: How Many Times Can I Disagree With Andy Harper's Calls.

More times than Syria were offside.

I swear that Harper, Kruse and Angie have some weird relationship going on.

I lost interest at half time. Playing like garbage.
Don't deserve to go to the WC.
That'll be Ange's legacy, bluster, arrogance and failure.

I'm not sure I agree that wet dont deserve to be there. We had a great first half of qualifying and have played well in patches. But since the formation change in qualifying we've been fairly dire the game against Thailand aside. The formation jyst does not suit our current defensive options and destroys the ability of leckie at stages of the game. Ange is just being stubborn now.
He must go

Problem is he'll point to Chile and say see, it does work. But we didn't win. Chile were just unprepared and underestimated us.
The CONCACAF team we play against will be defensively tight. More so than the teams we are drawing to and losing to in the AFC.
They may not be ready for us though. If it does click then its possible. But if we play 4 at the back then I think it's probable

uruguay and buenos aires were holiday camps
hondras or panama . our team would be lucky not to end up in an ice bath with their kidneys missing .
even the US defend well and know where the back of the net is we'll be down 3 nil after 20 minutes
and football in australia will be put back another 10 years .

f**k we can moan about the Socceroos. I swear since the A-League came along, we (football fans collectively) can find reasons to piss and moan about the Socceroos like nothing else. There's a club before country kinda mentality which just wasn't there 15 years ago.

Anyway, the system wasn't a bust 10 games ago. We've only used it since March, for a start. That's 5 games in the group stage and one playoff match.

Let's look at the last group stage of qualification in detail.

In a qualifying tournament you want to win all your home games, and you want to win away to anyone outside the top 3. If you lose away (but are not thrashed) to other sides in the top 3, no big deal really, you'll have enough points to guarantee you get through.

With a back 4 we failed to beat Japan in Melbourne, threw away a very gettable two points in Jeddah, and much worse, threw away two points in Bangkok. That's four points dropped behind our par score. That's where the damage was done in this campaign, not when we were behind our target points tally.

With the back 3 we threw away two points in Tehran on our first outing, but we got the home wins we needed and performed reasonably in the match against Japan. We were two points behind our par score, and the damage was in the game where we first made the change.

Our last four games of the group we did what should have been needed. We only lost one game in the ten, and that was in Saitama. Being hard to beat is obviously a good start. We're struggling to score goals, but that's not the back 3's fault, and had we taken full points in either Bangkok or Tehran (or even converted a third of the absolute hatful of chances we had against Thailand in the last group game) this discussion would be moot. Instead we'd be talking about the friendlies we'd be playing against Iran, Korea or Japan in this break and it'd be the Saudis in the playoffs.

A draw away from home against Syria's OK, and on the first half performance we were unlucky not to take the win. We could have been two or three up in the first half hour.

We'll get the win at home and move on. They're not as good as the Saudis, I'm not even sure they're as good as UAE or Iraq, both of whom we beat here.

I think we're going to get through, and then we'll probably have a playoff against Panama, who I think we'll handle OK. We'll still get to Russia, and we'll go out at the group stage, but that's about our level. We're not one of the best 16 nations in the world; most countries aren't. But we are consistently in a position to qualify for the World Cup (this will be our 4th on the hop!), and people ought to remember how foreign a situation that is to a country like ours.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
Indeed, we will roll Syria next week for certain, my big question is when will Arnie accept the job as Anges replacement

McGowan called in to Socceroos squad:

Ryan McGowan has replaced Bailey Wright in Australia's squad ahead of next week's return leg against Syria in their AFC World Cup qualifying play-off.

Bristol City captain and defender Wright will return to England on Sunday, after succumbing to injury.

Wright was suspended for Thursday's 1-1 draw against Syria in Malaysia.

McGowan, who plays for Al-Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, comes into Ange Postecoglou's 23-man squad for Tuesday's showdown in Sydney.

The winner will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs to face the fourth-placed nation from CONCACAF for a spot at Russia 2018.

- Shame Wright's exclusion is only due to injury and NOT down to purely Ange thinking there was a better alternative. :(

If we get through against Syria we should know by 1pm on Wednesday who we face next - likely to be Panama or Honduras.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/footba...t/news-story/ae75119cdb505597167648af1571e4e4

THE Socceroos are likely to face Panama or Honduras and avoid USA in a potential World Cup playoff tie if Australia beat or draw with Syria on Tuesday night.

The fourth-placed CONCACAF team will face either Australia or Syria in two matches (home and away) in November for a place in Russia.

USA’s 4-0 win over Panama - spearheaded by a goal and assist from wonderkid Christian Pulisic - moved the powerhouse nation into third place on the CONCACAF qualifying ladder with 12 points.

Panama (10 points) are now fourth with one more game to play, but fifth-placed Honduras (9 points) could move above Panama if they beat second-ranked Costa Rica on Sunday (AEDT).

However, fourth place won’t be confirmed until Wednesday’s final matchday when the last CONCACAF games will simultaneously begin at 11am AEDT.

The final day fixture is (current rankings in brackets): Trinidad and Tobago (6) vs USA (3), Honduras (5) vs Mexico (1) and Panama (4) vs Costa Rica (2).

We also only played 45 good mins against Chile and held on for the draw.
