Round 1 - F3 Derby #42, Gosford

What a strange feeling next morning. We Lose 5-1 and there is optimism.

In fact it was a very strange game.

I do not have the match stats with me but we seemed to have about 10 corners to a couple for the Scum.

I would guess we had the majority of possession.

I was trying to remember what sort of game Glover had and cannot remember anything about his distribution mainly because he did not have much to do apart from retrieve the ball half a dozen times.

Scum only threatened a few times but scored from most of them.

Mariners threatened easily as many times but scored once.

Other impressions:
Back 4 were lost and totally uncoordinated and in most cases were a back 2. Understandable in the 2nd half when we were chasing the game, but way too open in the first allowing easy goals. Work definitely needed. L. Rose into centre back and anyone else to play right fullback (pick a name any name).
Happy with Tom and expect more from Wout as he settles in.
Impressed by DDS and Asdrubal, looking forward to lots of fun there.
Why play high balls into the box against Topor and Boogard when our striker is five foot nothing?
One day Bingers will come good (wishful thinking?).
Rosie starting to look his age, hopefully he was carrying something and will get better.
We were looking good until the penalty and then just fell to pieces. Maybe trying to hard which can mess things up.

A strange game, shame it was against the Scum.

Watched the replay and there is still plenty to be positive about for this season, everybody including all commentators noted same as well. It wasn't the normal CCM bash from Fox as we played very well other than our defence which needs to be a focus and I think most also thought it was one of those games for the Jets where the ball finds the net as 3 of the five goals where top shelf.

It always takes a few games to gauge how teams are going but regretfully the Jets are looking good this season. Roy, Nabbout and Petratos will cause plenty of problems for others this year. Ronald is a quality pick up and he injected himself after 20 mins very well. Big strong experienced defence to boot. They will make the six under Ernie this year for sure.

I feel proud that our game has been the best so far for round 1 and very interested to see how the Drive byes go this afternoon.

I'm trying so hard not to mention the piss poor refereeing and the VAR is a waste of time if it just agrees with the Ref every time. Can't believe Boogs hit on Pain was not a Pen and Simon Hill thought so but no replay other than a comment that the VAR had no issues with it. Also on TV Baro doesn't even contact Roy, probably a shock for Baro as he would be used to getting good decisions with the MV. Welcome to the hard done by Mariners Captain you will have your work cut out for you.

Atrocious decision. Was just a collision - it was nothing like the Italy incident.
Not to mention the other Jets players were almost level with the ball by the time the penalty was actually taken.
Can anyone tell me why Hoole wasn't on the sqad sheet is he injured
Suspended - yellow card accumulation at end of last season.

My take our front six as good as any.

The backs tonight just so poor.

To early to make a call on Glover.

Folic OMG he is beyond poor.

DDS I am so impressed with this kid

For me it's a dive. Roy makes a meal of it. Baro didn't do anything.

Also. Welcoming captain to The little boys of the league. No favourable MV ref calls here. It's the opposite any chance to stuff up they take it with us.

I know VAR is supposed to be for absolute howlers but it should at least be allowed to say hey ref. It looks really weak. Have a look are you still happy with that. I don't like a second persons opinion as part of changing a decision. The field ref should make every decision when VAR interveins.

Also on the last goal i think it was L Rose was pulled by the arm, clear foul. Ref missed (surprise) and the ball never went out as part of the play. Don't understand why VAR didn't pick that up either and how far back it can go in the same play.

I'm not sure this is what was in mind when our season's motto was dreamt up:

As painful as the loss was, believe it or not there was some positives dominated possession, much more chances. On the flip side defence about as Water tight as a sieve especially at Right Back.
Oh well now to look forward to the Drive By's @ Soulless

Gotta laugh as shit as McGing is, when the thought is ah well storm will be back there it doesn't bode well. Storm is just as good at marking shadows.

Is that lack of effort or a problem with Paulo's system?
