I'd settle for Mulvey right now, experience of the A League and plays exciting football. Not sure he'll want to come back to the A league though after way Brisbane treated him.

Does anyone else remember the fans forums in 2013. At one of them either Charlesworth or Turnbull said there was a plan for the club and they knew who would be managing the club
for the next 7 years.

At that time they obviously didn't think Arnie would leave so soon. I think Mossy was being groomed to take over, but as it turned out there wasn't enough time.
Then I think they had P Zwaanswijk in mind to take over from him.

Didn't work out though did it.

Interesting article by Fossie talking about A-League coaching.
" .. A-League clubs have been inserting three-month termination clauses into coaching contracts, a discussion again brought to light following Central Coast's sacking of Phil Moss. .. "
" .. The arrival of Peter Storrie at the Mariners is potentially problematic – in England, the approach is to spend extraordinary amounts of money and import almost all Premier League head coaches, producing very few of their own. .. "

Some good common sense here: http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/...oaching-a-worrying-trend-20150307-13xv1c.html

. i am glad i am not the only one to be thinking back to that

. that was announced at a forum where fans turned up to tear strips off the mariners for neglecting the local association. it was made very clear that the relationship was being repaired with the mariners putting significant resources into building that working relationship, including:
  • implementing 'the mariners way' ... a curriculum being written by big pat
  • mossy helping the local coaches
  • arnie 'coaching the coaches' ... in his bid to 'leave a legacy on the coast'
. less than 6 months later - arnie was gone
. less than 9 months later - big pat was gone
. during this time mossy became responsible for the whole lot and was given a looong term contract

. essential we have found ourselves in a situation not dissimilar to the mariners defense ... pressured, confused and panicked into making rash decisions ... but ultimately not up to the task

. the over-riding principle ... false economies biting us in the arse

To early to speculate right now let the dust settle our club doesn't need a knee jerk reaction for a coach .We need a coach with genuine ability and intent with a foreseeable future. Let's not forget Brisbane has turned it around at the moment.

News reporting a world wide search that will take quite a while

and that """ Walmsley is not a candidate for the role long-term, he has made clear that as the club’s new technical director he expects to have significant input into both the choice of coach and which of the existing squad are offered deals for next season.""""

I have to admit, for mine, that's some REALLY positive noise, coming from him - assuming the club is backing him. It seems like the potential for very positive change and sounds like he might also be expecting the role to actually be a permanent thing, rather than a 6-month contract as an excuse to bring him on to cover after Mossy left.

The article said that Isaka Cernak is one of the players coming off contract this year. I think that's wrong, I have him as contracted until the end of the 2015/16 season.
EDIT: Gaahhh, I'm wrong. He signed an 18 month deal in Feb 2014 which takes him to the end of this season. I bloody well hope that the new TD re-signs him for at least another season, better for two seasons imo. :)

how much credit Cernack deserves can be seen on the turn around in this forum. I think most here would heartily endorse a new contract - a year ago and some were calling him Isuckatsoccah.
happy for the guy, and looking forward to good things from him for the team too

Almost nothing Fossie writes is interesting IMHO. He is a complete flog and has always been critical of us.

I'd give him a new contract. He is useful.

Brisbane were lucky to get the 3 points against the drive bys on the weekend.
I'm tipping the Mariners with Warmsley in charge would have at least got a draw a couple of weeks ago.
Brisbane are average under the old Dutchy and are struggling to make the 6. They would have got more points under Mulvey IMHO.

Ah Fozzie! The approach in England is not to appoint Premier League coaches because quite simply football in England, believe it or not, is vastly more than just the EPL. There are some very good coaches in the lower leagues; young, modern, progressive coaches. It would be interesting to see one of those coaches in a league without relegation.

Brisbane probably will squeak in ahead of City because of games in hand. They have 13 points from 15 since the Asian Cup which sounds good

However, as you said they have not been very convincing.

First game back was a very rusty performance against an equally rusty Nix
Second game relied on an own goal by a late substitute in the last 10 seconds to claim the points against the low flying Jets.
A 2 -0 win over the Mariners from two deserved spot kicks in the second half seems convincing – except for the 3 more deserving spot kicks the Mariners should have received in the first 13 minutes.
The game against Perth Brisbane looked good until the red card.
Tonight a few centimetres ensured Brisbane kept the points when Juric’s short bounced on the line.

So 13 points from 15 – but could oh so easily have been considerably less

This is a bit of a worry.

"WALMSLEY BOARDS THE SHIP

TONY Walmsley has taken leave from his full-time job until the end of the A-League season to concentrate on fulfilling his role as interim coach of the Mariners. As revealed in this column, Walmsley has been juggling his recent coaching commitments on the Central Coast with his, until now, full-time job working for a rail maintenance firm in Sydney. It got to the stage where Robbie Slater, whose son Tom plays for the Mariners, had to step in to lead a training session for the youngsters in Gosford."
