So... the FFA just withdrew its recognition of the PFA.

Presumably the CBA negotiations have broken down, perhaps (in the FFA's view) irreparably.

This could get interesting. Given they're in a bargaining period we could see the PFA taking protected industrial action.

Well, FFA either did or did not withdraw their recognition.

PFA either did or did not cancel a meeting after it was due to start.

No doubt there's a gap between the positions and each sees the other as acting unreasonably, but the fact that it took FFA some hours to respond indicates either they were blindsided by PFA or they're hopeless.

Perhaps a blend of the two.

Re the salary cap minimum spend being increased from 85% to 90%, I thought this may have an effect on the type of player we recruit. If Walmsley previously had $150k left to spend on 2 or 3 players to make 85%, CCM is now obliged to spend another $127k to reach 90% of the cap. The influence a player on $50k or $100k a season wouldnt be huge however if you could attract a genuine $220k a season player as well as a squaddie then this should make a real difference to the team.

I wonder if there is a chance some hack players will have their salaries artificially inflated just to meet the floor?
It's not like the clubs can spend the extra money on the best quality, teams are restricted in the foreign players they can sign so the squads have to be padded out with locals from a small pool.

From the Everton FC site;

Conor McAleny:

D.O.B: 12/08/1992
Birthplace: Liverpool
Appearances: 2 (4)
Goals: 2

Conor McAleny joined Everton’s Academy at just 11 and in the summer of 2008 was recruited as a full-time scholar.

The diminutive yet pacy striker has impressed as a forward in his years at the club.

He became part of the Under-18s squad in 2008/09, netting a number of important goals - a role which increased the following season.

McAleny was also handed a squad number in 2009/10 but didn't feature for the first team in that campaign.

With the Blues plagued by injuries in April 2011 McAleny was named as a subsitute in the 2-2 with Aston Villa at Goodison Park along with fellow academy graduates Adam Forshaw and Aristote Nsiala.

He appeared as an unused substitute on several further occasions and also helped Everton's Under-18s to national glory that season.

In June 2011 he signed a new one-year deal at the Club and six months later he made his senior debut with a late substitute appearance at Arsenal.

In the next game, McAleny made his first Goodison appearance by coming on for Louis Saha in the 1-1 draw against Norwich.

On 23 March 2012, he joined Sc**thorpe United on loan for the remainder of the season.

Injury hampered the Liverpool-born youngster's progress during the 2012/13 season but he still managed to score 10 goals for Everton Under-21s, including strikes against Newcastle United at Goodison Park and Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the end-of-season play-off rounds.

In July 2013, McAleny joined League One outfit Brentford on a six-month loan deal to further his first-team experience, but sufferred a broken leg in just his fourth appearance.

His loan spell was subsequently cancelled on 2 September so that his lengthy rehabilitation programme could commence at Finch Farm.

McAleny made his first senior start in the Europa League visit of FC Krasnodar in December 2014, before leaving for Cardiff City on loan until the end of the season in February.

He scored twice in nine appearances for the Bluebirds during an injury-hit spell in South Wales.

Contracted until: June 2017.

This kid sounds like he might be a 'busted arse'.

Everton should be paying his wages NOT US, were risking a 'spot' by giving Everton the chance to see if this prodigous 11y.o finally comes good AND it's a spot we really need a 'solid back-up' for/if O'Donovan doesn't produce.

If Everton pick up the tab (technically we still have to pay), we could then use the 'their cash' + some of our coin combined to pay for a quality CB, even outside of the cap as a marquee $150-200k.

Now that'd be a first!

Well Luca Brasi, while you were swimming with the fish you learnt maths?

Despite all the red ink it looks like only one or two injuries. A broken leg can happen to anyone.
2 goals in 8 appearances in the Championship is not too bad, this kid might be alright.

The Socceroos' Asian Cup final hero James Troisi says he will consider a short-term Hyundai A-League move as he seeks regular first-team football in 2015-16.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder is owned by Juventus but has never played for the Turin giants and is unlikely to feature in their Serie A title defence during the coming campaign.

Troisi enjoyed a productive loan spell at Belgian club Zulte Waregem last term but appears no closer to securing his next loan move or permanent transfer.

Admitted, maths was never my strong point. Changes to the salary cap are going to be overall detrimental to CCM however it should force the owner to dig a bit deeper this year from what we could expect. McAleny had 2 assists and a goal in pre season v Swindon and was being talked about in terms of first team football at Everton this season. I would ensure either his signature or his brains are on that contract for CCM ;)

3 assists and a goal in a 4-0 win against a League 1 side

Roberto Martinez described Everton's pre-season as "very good" and said that he was pleased with the players' physical levels and added that his team were ready for the season to start.
Martinez saw his side ease to a 4-0 win over Swindon in their first pre-season match. Kevin Mirallas scored a second-half brace before Romelu Lukaku added a third goal and Conor McAleny, who notched three assists in the match, rounded off a 4-0 victory with a deserved goal.
