From a club point of view, an international break means he only misses 3 games. From his point of view, he looks the goods in the #1 shirt so if he's been putting it off, now is a good time.

Big money transfer for Jedinak falls through:

gettyimages-483396042.jpg
Australia skipper Mile Jedinak will remain a Crystal Palace player until at least January after a transfer deadline day move to English Premier League side Stoke City failed to materialise.

Palace and Stoke had agreed a fee for the 31-year-old midfielder, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and out of Australia's World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Tajikstan, reported to be in the region of $8.6 million.

However, the Potters and Jedinak were unable to agree personal terms before the transfer window closed in the UK.

Jedinak, who is under contract until June 2017, has been a big success at Palace - for whom he is club captain - since joining the club from Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi in 2011 and an integral part of the team that won promotion to the Premier League in 2012 and has survived in it for the last two years.

But he missed a large chunk of the back end of last season due to an ankle injury sustained in the successful AFC Asian Cup campaign and then served a four-match ban in March after being charged with violent conduct for elbowing West Ham striker Diafra Sakho.

Palace boss Alan Pardew is believed to have told Jedinak his game time will be reduced with new signing Yohan Cabaye and Scotland midfielder James McArthur now ahead of him in the pecking order.

Watford and West Bromwich Albion also expressed an interest in the former Central Coast Mariners star.

Fit-again Sainsbury targets Socceroos comeback:

gettyimages-468160892.jpg

Revitalised Australia defender Trent Sainsbury has not given up hope of returning to the Socceroos side for next month's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Jordan.

The Socceroos face the Jordanians in Amman on 9 October (AEST) and PEC Zwolle's polished centre-back is determined to be there.

Sainsbury has played only 10 minutes of senior competitive football this season due to successive hamstring injuries but his recovery is almost complete.

He played a whole match for Zwolle's reserves in midweek and is in the mix to be selected for the weekend's Eredivisie home match against ADO Den Haag.

"The two strains were something I could not control but all is well now," said Sainsbury, who was a member of Australia's 2015 AFC Asian Cup-winning team in January.

"I played 90 minutes for the reserves against Heerenveen in midweek and I felt really good.

"It was the quickest I felt over the ground since the Asian Cup and did not feel too bad the next morning for recovery training.

"I think now that I've played 90 minutes without any problems I can look to play full games in the first team.

"I've been on the bench for the last two senior games and played in a friendly during the international break so there is a big possibility I will be involved again at the weekend. My match fitness is almost perfect.

"Funnily enough I did not watch the last two Socceroos matches (against Bangladesh and Tajikistan) because I was training but I watched the highlights.

"The Jordan match is very important and I don't think it is coming too soon for me. If I get selected I will be over the moon."

Sainsbury, who is 23 years old, was a key member of the Central Coast Mariners team that won the 2013 A-League championship and left the club a year later to further his career abroad.

He feels at home in the Eredivisie but he said that being on the sidelines, recovering from injury and not knowing when or if you will get back into the side, is one of the frustrating aspects professional footballers have to deal with.

"There is always the thought that the spot you once called yours could be ripped out from underneath you so quickly because of an injury," Sainsbury explained.

"But if you work hard and do the right things (during recovery) the spot will be yours again just as it was once.

"The problem is the team is doing well at the moment, lying fifth in the table two points from leader PSV, and it's hard to change a winning combination so I just have to be patient."

Sainsbury is halfway through his two-year contract with Zwolle and he admitted he has no idea where he could be playing next European season.

"My contract is half up," he said.

"The club has the option of one more year. It's exciting but also nerve-racking at the same time knowing I could be somewhere else shortly.

"If it was up to me I don't mind where I go as long as me and my partner are happy and enjoying it and I'm playing regularly.

"It's the life of a professional footballer, I suppose, but I can't imagine it any other way."

Sainsbury was asked to express his views on a common discussion topic among fans regarding the merits or otherwise of seeking lucrative contracts at the expense of valuable playing time.

"I'm open to any offers out in front of me," he explained.

"The whole idea of coming to Holland was to take the next step in my career.

"That step meant becoming a better footballer with a better income.

"Obviously I'd like to make a step up again in football and financial terms.

"It's a small window in which footballers have to achieve what they want.

"For many it is trophies and success with their clubs and countries and to be financially set for life after football. I'm no different."

Trent 'Iceman' Sainsbury, ice running through his veins, even on the World Stage he looked like he was playing football in the backyard with his mates about to go for a cheeky Nandos.

When will we see another talent like that come through the Blue and Yellow

All the more sweet because his debut at RB against Sydney was a train wreck.
What a player he went on to become.
What a great game he had in the Grand Final!!!
How good does he look as a Socceroo.

Mat Ryan back in training with Valencia:

imagen52014d.jpg

Socceroos No.1 Mat Ryan has returned to training with Valencia as he looks to re-claim his first-team position for the La Liga club.

Ryan has been out of action for almost a month after picking up a knock to his knee against Deportivo La Coruna.

The goalkeeper missed Australia's two World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Tajikistan in early September.

Adam Federici took his spot and kept two clean sheets as Australian won 5-0 and 3-0 respectively.

Ryan has missed five games for Valencia, with the Spanish side winning two, losing two and drawing one game in his absence.

Valencia defeated Granada 1-0 overnight and will front Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Ryan will be pushing for a starting spot but it remains unclear if he will be fit enough, or if manager Nuno Santo will continue with Jaume Domenech.

Former Mariners NYL player Jesse Curran made his debut last weekend for Dundee FC in the Scottish PL against Motherwell. Came on in central midfield after 40 minutes. Team won 2-1 and Jesse received great reviews. Played two years in the NYL and was the Mariners player of the year 2014. Just turned 19 so a bright future.

Ollie Bozanic had an outstanding game for Melb.Victory last night. Earned the Man of the Match 3 points. Will easily fill the void left by Milligan & easily outshine Valeri.:(
