Finished 7-0 - 3 to Heffernan, 2 to Fabio (including a penalty), and one each to Ascroft and Bingham. The score probably would've been higher had Reddy not go into goals for WNSW in the second half...

1st goal; Victory player totally unmarked giving him a 'free-header'.

2nd, our RB (Stormy?) too wide and totally missed the great run from Bes.

3rd, similar run again from Bes perhaps RCB this time failing to track?

Yes. Very sloppy defending.

Western NSW Mariners FC 0 Central Coast Mariners 7 (Heffernan 7’+ 32’ + 37’, Ascroft 9’, Ferreira 16’ + 20’, Bingham 42’)
The run down:

The Central Coast Mariners cruised to a comfortable 7-0 win over the Western NSW Mariners FC on Thursday evening in Orange. The match featured as a warm up for Sunday's blockbuster in Orange that is also set to be played at Wade Park in NSW's Central West.

A hat-trick to Dan Heffernan, brace to Fabio Ferreira, a goal each to Harry Ascroft and Josh Bingham puts the Mariners in a great position heading into Sunday's #F3Derby.

An interesting move was made in the second half that saw Liam Reddy switch teams to put the gloves on for Western who earned his keep in between the sticks with a clean sheet.

Full attention now switches to Sunday's main event that kicks off at 3:00pm. Call 6393 8111 to pre-purchase your tickets.

GOALS:

7’ HEFFERNAN GOAL: The cracking pre-season form of our newest recruit continued with the match’s opener. A precision cross was whipped into the box, Heffernan found the ball at his feet and made no mistake with the finish.

9’ ASCROFT GOAL: The young centre back pushed forward for a set piece and timed his run to perfection. The cross was sent into the mixer but it was our new centre back who leapt above the pack to head home with style.

16’ FERREIRA GOAL: Bingham pushed hard into the Western NSW Mariners’ box who looked strong heading towards goal before being brought down illegally in the 18 yard box. It was our Portuguese flyer who stepped up for the spot kick and nestled in the corner with ease.

20’ FERREIRA GOAL (2): Danger man, Dan Heffernan had a one-on-one opportunity that was denied by the keeper, Ferreira was Johnny on the spot with his follow up and belted the spoils home to make it 4-0.

32’ HEFFERNAN GOAL (2): The fancy feet of Glen Trifiro lead to Heffernan’s second goal of the night with another close range goal. The Manchester born striker picked up possession on the edge of the six-yard-box and dispatched his shot into the back of the net.

37’ HEFFERNAN GOAL (3): Just like he did against the Western Sydney Wanderers in Coffs Harbour, Heff bagged himself a pre-season hat trick in a very short space of time. Mitch Austin sent in an impressive cross from the left to put Heffernan in the box seat.

42’ BINGHAM GOAL: Josh Bingham bagged an impressive goal from just outside the box. After picking up possession in a dangerous area Bingham belted home from distance to round out the first half.

Central Coast Mariners squad: Liam REDDY, Storm ROUX, Harry ASCROFT, Jacob POSCOLIERO, Matthew SIM, Glen TRIFIRO, Reece PAPPAS, Daniel HEFFERNAN, Josh BINGHAM, Mitch AUSTIN, Fabio FERREIRA, Jake ADELSON, Marcus DUNCAN (trial), Ryan PETERSON (trial), Zac SFILIGOI (trial)

Gleaned this snippet from an interview with Berisha after our closed door trial against Melb.Victory ......

'Berisha impressed on the pitch on Monday afternoon, scoring twice in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Central Coast at AAMI Park.

The gifted marksman scored both goals in two second-half minutes, showing his trademark enthusiasm by celebrating his first goal despite the empty stands.'

After second consideration, with this info that Bes scored both of these goals within 2 mins, making exactly the same run each time ...... sloppy morphs into an expletive!

"Central Coast Mariners on the attack: 40-goal season the target

CENTRAL Coast coach Tony Walmsley has fired the first barb ahead of Sunday’s pre-season blockbuster against east coast derby rivals Newcastle at Wade Park - albeit a relatively friendly one.
The Mariners and Jets go toe-to-toe from 3pm in Orange on Sunday, with Walmsley set to unleash a young A-League squad focused on attacking football fuelled by former English Premier League gun Roy O’Donovan, left back Josh Rose and Portuguese attacking midfielder Fabio Ferreira.
Just don’t expect a similar mantra from the Jets.
“It’s going to be a great game,” Walmsley said at Wade Park on Friday.
“Don’t procrastinate, get down to the game. I know you get games here every now and again, but I think this is the first chance to see the [Mariners] team that’s in its true state.
“It’s a good opportunity ... unless [the fans] want to come and see the Jets ground out a result.
“I wouldn’t encourage them to do that.”
The Mariners have been in Orange since Wednesday and completed an encouraging 7-nil warm-up game win over the Western Mariners at Wade Park on Thursday night.
New signing Dan Heffernan - the same player who scored the fastest FFA goal of all time, a 26-second gem back in August - bagged a first-half hat-trick in the triumph, while Ferreira defied illness to earn precious minutes while also doing enough to score two goals against the hosts.

Working on a “five seconds of fury” philosophy Walmsley hopes will net the Mariners 40 goals throughout the 2015-16 A-League season, the Central Coast club will look to ramp up its pre-season campaign with as close to a polished performance as possible given it’s still only September.
“We won’t be sort of projecting outwardly any defensive-minded goals. If we bang in 40 goals that’ll be a great season,” he said, his side bagging just 26, the second fewest of all 10 A-League clubs, last season.
“It’ll get people talking, and internally we can pat each other on the back and say that’s what we set out to do and that’s how close we got.
“It’s as much the playing style that’s changed as who’s necessarily going to get the goals that’s going to create us more chances.”
Reverting away from the two holders formation adopted so far throughout the pre-season - a period that’s netted the club two wins and one loss, most recently 3-nil against Melbourne Victory - Walmsley’s outfit will go on the attack with one holder and two attacking midfielders tomorrow.
“The whole purpose of our attack is to make forward passes,” he said looking at tomorrow’s game.
“If we get quick people attacking the back of defenders then defensive set up the Jets will have will be really tested.”
Kick-off is at 3pm on Sunday at Wade Park."

Eddie Bosnar is Captain ! wtf?? Does this mean that he will be appointed "vice-captain" for the season and will wear the armband whenever Monty's not on the field?

I feel sick.

Does anyone have a match report?

Twitter indicated that we were dominating, however Izzo appeared to be busier than I would like.

Paddy hit the post, early on.

I'll take a 1- 0 loss now as long as we get 9 points during the season!!

Central Coast Mariners 0 Newcastle Jets 1 (Hoffman 53’)

Match INsight:

The Central Coast Mariners have fallen narrowly to the Newcastle Jets in a 1-0 defeat despite an array of chances created by the Yellow & Navy.

The opening 20 minutes of play saw some half chances at either end but the Mariners caused majority of the danger, which kicked off in the fifth minute through Roy O’Donovan. The Irishman found himself with a one-on-one opportunity from close range but his strike bounced back off the post.

An unlikely goal threat in Jake McGing was the next Mariner to push forward and trouble the Jets defence after flicking a Fabio Ferreira cross just wide of the upright in the 17th minute.
Ferreira and O’Donovan were the danger men in the first stanza who pushed into the Jets’ box on multiple occasions after linking with Anthony Caceres as well as Josh Rose on the opposite wing. The Mariners’ two foreigners created plenty of headaches but some impressive saves from Mark Birighitti as well as the woodwork sent the teams into the first half scoreless.
After a dominant first fifty minutes of play by the Mariners, it was a set piece that broke the deadlock in favour of the Newcastle Jets. A loopy corner saw Jason Hoffman steer a header into Paul Izzo’s bottom corner.

Through out the second half the Mariners continued to pressure the Jets back four and Izzo also made some sharp saves at the other end to keep the Central Coast in the hunt for an equaliser.

The crowd left their seats in the 89th minute thanks to Jake Adelson who brought his X-Factor onto the pitch with 10 minutes to go. A precision cross found its way onto the head of Adelson who lunged at the ball with venom, only to be denied by a strong Birighitti right glove.

Full attention now turns to next Saturday’s pre-season hit out against Brisbane Roar on the Sunshine Coast.

Special thanks to Orange City Council for hosting us in NSW’s Central West this past week and to Newcastle Permanent who were our Match Day Sponsor.

Walmsley’s words:

“We conceded a goal off a set piece and we coughed up a couple of chances because we were obviously chasing the game and trying to be inventive and proactive.”

“The first half we were dominant, hit the post, created numerous opportunities to get in behind them and just couldn’t score. With two weeks out, not bad but there’s work to do.”

“The pitch is what it is, you’ve got to get on and do it. It was nothing major, the slowness of the pitch after the rain stopped us from moving the ball as quickly as we would have liked.”

“We came here to be inventive and score goals, we couldn’t really get going but you could see the intent was there and Newcastle did what they came here to do which was grind out a result and they ground out a 1-0 result, scored off a set piece so good luck to them.”

“We play Brisbane Roar next week on the Sunshine Coast which is another opportunity for players to get out there and put themselves in the frame for the first game.”

“We didn’t execute well at all today and the players will be very hard on themselves, they know what they’ve got to do. We finished the game with five up front and three defenders so we’re desperate to score goals, it didn’t happen but it will happen.”

“We’ve been here since Wednesday and it’s great to see so many people out here, the guys are out there signing autographs, we’ve been engaging with the community, we’re a community club and this is what we do.

“We would definitely come back [to Orange], I’m sure there’s more opportunities down the track for matches in the Central West, we’ve enjoyed it, we’re really grateful to Orange City Council for having us.”
