According to 442...Ryan de Vries and Knights’ Tomislav Uskok are trialling with an A-League club…

Which is us i think.
Uskok has been mentioned but not sure about De Vries.

So what do people think our starting XI should look like for the FFA Cup?
I'd go with:
Reddy
Roux Bosnar J.Rose Neill
Montgomery
Caceres Kalik
Ferreira O'Donovan Austin
Bench: Izzo,Poscoliero, Trifiro, Bingham, McGing
I think we will play a few triallists. TW will want to pick a side to win but will not risk injury to those not ready. Maybe....
Reddy
.....Roux..............Usok.........Posco..............Rosey......
.......................McGing.........Monty............................
Fitzy.........................Caceres......................Austin......
..............................Bingham/Trialist.......................................

It's an FFA comp. How do you expect that we will play trialists?

I'm thinking they (2 or 3)may be signed by then. Not sure who they will be but most have probably been playing in State leagues and will be match ready. TW has stated that the timing is poor for the FFA game with pre-season training demands on the players.

Trialists or the junior members more likely to play trial games like the WSW a couple of days before unless he turns it into a proper hit out to get match fitness into the guys before that game

Can't believe none of you have our FFA cup specialist striker Sim in their game day squads.

Note to Walmsley:
  1. Matt Sim MUST be on the bench
  2. Matt Sim MUST be substituted into the game at exactly the 72nd minute mark.
  3. Not a minute before, Not a minute after
18 minutes of 'Mariners Magic'.

The 72nd minute rolls around and a promising attack stops mysteriously as a Mariners attacker dribbles the ball out for a throw in and jogs to the bench.

Sim time.

I'm loving all the Sim Love but we aren't playing Palm Beach. We are playing Wellington
It's just his time of year. Premier leaguers are hungover from the finish of their season and a leaguers are still easing into the sand hills.
He just peaks earlier than the rest of them. He's signed just to perform in August ;)

Heard TW interviewed on ABC this morning :vhappy:

He was saying that they'll be announcing a 'promising young player' in the next couple of days, sounded like a CB and - from the way he's talking - I'm guessing Australian, from NPL or NYL.

He also said that they're on the lookout for a quality Forward/Winger that can help put some spice into the front, although any signings there will be subject to cash-flow.
Moving on to the Canberra games, he then said that they're seeing it as a nice starting challenge and hoping to perhaps unearth a couple of decent players from some of the opposition squads - so I don't know what to think anymore ;)

But I DO have to admit, hearing him talk about the club - the positivity in his voice and outlook did help me get fired up a bit :D - I'm easily affected like that but... Much as I liked Mossy and Arnie, both of them were quintessential Aussie understated guys, so it was kind of nice to hear a coach with a bit more of an up-beat approach... Hopefully he can make that work for the team too.

After a succession of injuries, Central Coast Mariners left-back Mickey Neill is tearing up the training track as he looks towards the upcoming Westfield FFA Cup and Hyundai A-League campaigns to cement his spot in Tony Walmsley’s side.
Over the last two Hyundai A-League seasons, Neill has been frustrated by injury, which has restricted the promising defender to only eight appearances for the Central Coast Mariners.
However, Neill’s time on the sideline has only added to his determination to get back to football.
The 21-year-old has trained the house down this pre-season, placing among the top three in most of the club’s testing.
‘Mickey' says he couldn’t be happier to be back on the park as he looks to put the frustrations of the past behind him.
“I got off to a good start last year and it was unfortunate to cop an injury early in the season, which resulted in an operation,” Neill said.
“I’m just happy to be back out here again and working hard and looking forward to this season really,” he said.

Neill broke through for his Hyundai A-League debut in 2014/15 against Perth Glory, and from then on solidified a spot in the Mariners’ first XI with strong performances in defence.
However in December's return encounter against the Glory away in Perth, Neill collided awkwardly with goalkeeper Liam Reddy after a first half cross, which resulted in a broken toe and a seven month rehab process for the 21-year-old.
Now on the other side of that, Neill says he is looking to repay the coaching staff and playing group, who supported him throughout his rehab process.
“They [Central Coast Mariners] put all that faith into you and you have to perform and you have to repay them. They don’t put that faith in you for no reason” Neill said.
“The Mariners are always known for their great culture and it’s like a family with all the boys out here.
"We’re all encouraging each other and the support system here, it’s great.
“We’re all looking for a massive season this year, we want to prove to the fans and everyone on the coast that the Mariners are back to their winning ways.”

Who should we targeting for the remaining positions given

1) as Tony said we are on a tight budget and
2) we have a youth focus

My choices

Defence - Callum Richardson, Harry Ashcroft
Midfield - Dejan Pandurevic - Tony cut him at the end of the season but he is only young and going great guns at Manly. Hopefully he was let go so that he could get game time and we re-sign him
Forward - Everton loan striker, Trent Buhagiar

I still like the look of Adam Dawson

On the other end of the age scale Daniel McBreen on an incentive based contract couldn't hurt

Great to see some of our boys selected and looking back at some previous Young Socceroo squads all the players seem to at least become at least A-League regulars.
