What should be our starting 11?

The back five takes care of itself and i think most people would start Simon and McBreen upfront but the midfield is a bit of a puzzle.
Who is going to do the hard yards in the middle?
Or are we going to be the Spain of Australia which a small nippy skillful midfield.

How about:
                            Vanstrattan
Wilko                Doig          Dutchy                Rose
                Amini      WeeMac  Bozanic
                Simon      McBreen      Perez

As Arnold stated it'll be a 442 with a narrow diamond I "think" it'll be -

                  Vanstrattan

Porter/Pedj      Wilko        Dutchy      Rose

                        Hutch

            WeeMac            Bozanic

                        Perez

              Simon          McBreen

Bench: Kwas, Pedj, Doig, Griffiths, Ryan.

What "should" it be... no idea but personally,
I'd slot Kwas in for Simon upfront. Wilko could be pushed wide for Doig, but I'd be concerned with our lack of pace at the back and also with a narrow diamond your looking for your RB and LB to get forward and put balls in - a task Porter is much more suited to than Wilko.

Personally I like 433 but we haven't been playing it and I honestly I don't think when you look at that lineup that it actually suits our current personnel.

I think GA will end up with Pedj at RB. He has said that he wants the fullbacks to push forward and Wilko will not do that. I also feel that Porter is better suited further forward.

Up front, from reports, Kwas has done well with better service and may get the nod over Matty.

I'd also like to see Amini get the chance for game time. The report from the first game in Vietnam on the weekend singled him out for praise. I'm really looking forward to seeing him and Ollie. It also sounds like our Argentinain takes a good freekick.

So I think we will see.

                  Vanstrattan

Pedj      Wilko                  Dutchy      Rose

                        Hutch

            WeeMac            Bozanic

                        Perez

              McBreen          Kwas

Bench: Simon, Porter, Amini, Griffiths, Ryan.

Porter will not play at the back of the diamond. He will be RB or in place of Wee Mac

Talking of starting 11?
Is the foxsports fantasy league going again this year?
Does anyone have the code for the Marinators league, after finishing 2nd last season hopes are high for a top spot this year.

^^^^ this, thought i am still not convinced on the size and strength of the midfield in a very physical competition with lots of opposition big, strong defenders playing as defensive mids

the only possible change could be doig in for wilko

also, jury is still out for perez for me until i see him play a bit

i agree with this also:

                                  Van Strattan

Porter            Wilko                              Dutch                      Rose

                                        Hutch

                    Wee Mac                          Bozanic

                                        Perez

                        McBreen                Kwazi

best thing is the injury / form cover we have. IN THEORY this side would be almost as strong with:

simon of either striker
doig for either fullback
porter for wee mac
wee mac for perez
lewis for Bonzanic
etc etc

ok what about this ot start with untill we see what Perez is like

for a more "physical" defensive approach:

                                  Van Strattan

    Wilko                Doig                Dutch                      Rose

    Porter              Ledj                  Hutch                  Bozanic

                            Simon              McBreen

Seeing how well we went last season with two big buffalos up front, I wouldn't want to see Matty, Dmac2 together. Rather see a buffalo and a gazelle (Kwas) together & swap the buffalos at the half.

Yep I like this side. I think Kwassie offers something a little bit different than Simon and Mrdja (is he even in the running). It will be interesting to see if he starts with Perez or eases him into the A-League.

Isn't there a Tasmanian mariners supporter that went to the trial that could give a bit more info on Perez's performance?

. so would this line-up be wearing the 'alternate' strip?

This is my fav. starting line up. I still have bad memories of Porter at RB, so don't want to see him there. Right mid is a better position for him.
Can anyone list why he is the best player for RB?

Porter will be much better there than Wilko. We are playing with a narrow diamond midfield, we need Porter/Pedj and Rose overlapping. I'd rather Porter over Pedj because Pedj loses possession far too much and Porter's crossing is easily better.

If you watch the Mariners play where you can hear them, such as Pluim, you will find that Wilko organises the team with a lot of talk from the back. If you replace him with Doig, you lose that organisation and you also lose a bit of pace.
