Bugger. Come on Dibo, come back to the fold. He'll be sorely missed imo.

RE WSW decent team. Yeah I think so. But going to be a real challenge to come together in such short period of time regardless of who they sign.

We had our 2nd Western Sydney Wanderers Supporters meeting last night at the Woolpack. I hope to offer a summary of what was spoken about.

Name:
As shown in a previous thread, the Western Sydney Wanderers Supporters Home End name was voted for and confirmed as Red & Black Bloc.

Lyall Gorman:
Lyall spoke on several key issues. A number were commercially confidential and still in the progress of negotiation so concrete details were somewhat limited. Another consideration is the desire to ensure Western Sydney Wanderers remains in the news and this means being able to offer ‘product’ by way of information releases to the media over the next few months.
* Pre-season – 9 matches look to be the number that will be played. The first Western Sydney Wanderers pre-season match will take place in a week and a half on Wednesday the 25th of July. No further details were given.
* Stadium – The deal is in negotiation. I feel that it is nearly complete. Lyall confirmed that they understand that the supporters desire a single home stadium. The current situation on his end was that if these negotiations are successful, that this desire will be satisfied to either a large or complete extent.
* ANZ – Lyall made no secret that ANZ are heavily lobbying for both the training facility position and for Western Sydney Wanderers games to be played there. Again, Lyall confirmed that the club understands the desire of the fans to avoid this stadium completely.
* Marquee Players – A marquee must make it’s money back. The example given was Michael Owen who would cost $5 million.
* Visa Players – We should expect at least 4 positions filled, if not all 5.
* Sponsorship – Negotiations are in place and Western Sydney Wanderers hopes to have a release of this information by the end of the month.
* Merchandise – Is in the process of being developed.
* Club Affiliations – A question about Western Sydney Wanderers having affiliations with other clubs was asked. Lyall replied that an affiliation with a big club is in the works.
* Academy – The club has a goal of establishing a full youth setup from the early years up to the Youth League and beyond.
* Social Club – The plan is for a social club to be established in the future.
* Youth and Women’s League Matches – For a variety of reasons these matches are unlikely to be in any ‘double header’ with a A-League match. Cost is one factor, another is opening the stadium hours earlier, another is pitch wear. There may be double headers of the Youth & Women’s team.
* Memberships – No family tickets will be sold in the home end.
* Free Travel – This has been considered but the cost of doing this would have to be factored into every membership and at this stage a free travel aspect to membership is unlikely to happen.

Supporters Group:
Discussion was made about incorporating a non-profit organisation to enable a more professional, transparent and open access supporters group. This was received well and I believe steps will be taken to this end soon.

Active Support Leaders:
The group has decided to build this organically. However there are several people who are already experienced with active support leadership and they will help guide and shape the active support as the pre-season begins.

The Western Sydney Wanderers have added a further two players to their inaugural squad with Adam D'Apuzzo and Jason Trifiro both impressing enough on trial to earn one-year deals.
D'Apuzzo is no stranger to the elite level having played for several seasons with the Newcastle Jets, where he was a member of the squad that won the 2007-8 championship, eventually cementing his place as a dependable left-back.
The 25-year old walked out on the Jets 12 months ago to return to Sydney where he wanted to focus on his career outside football in finance. He trialled with Sydney FC but didn't win a contract and decided to sit out of the A-League for a season.
Trifiro, 24, hails from Sydney but has recently made a name for himself in the Victorian Premier League with South Melbourne, where he was named as the top player in arguably the nation's strongest state league. The attacking midfielder trialled unsuccessfully with Melbourne Heart last season.

The Herald understands deals for both players were completed over the weekend. The pair both started in the Wanderers' first game last Wednesday, a 5-0 romp over Nepean FC.
The new club's next hitout is against Blacktown Spartans on Wednesday night at Blacktown International Sportspark.
Meanwhile, Socceroos' midfielder Mark Bresciano looks to have been blocked by his UAE club, Al Nasr, from moving to Qatari club Al Gharafa.
The 32-year old was reportedly prepared to pay a fee of over A$1 million to Al Nasr to terminate his contract and pave the way for a move to Doha but the club is sticking firm, insisting they haven't received a transfer offer that they want they want their top scorer from last season to stick around.
"Mark Bresciano's contract with Al Nasr is valid for another season and the football company has not received any requests from any clubs asking for the services of the player," said Al Nasr's directory of football Arif Abbas.

I thought the team would be full of good players, that team will struggle to be competitive.

Poppa seems to want to play a 4-2-3-1. Four decent visa players could turn that team into a very competitive one.

With news of tonight’s fracas between Sydney FC and Western Sydney fans spreading like wildfire on Twitter, Australian football powerbrokers must act swiftly in what is a critical time for the game and a burgeoning club. Here are several things I would do if charged with a role in the FFA’s public relations department:

Issue a press statement TONIGHT. Not first thing tomorrow, not tomorrow afternoon, but TONIGHT. The sooner the better. If they have to revert to the old “We are investigating the facts, condemn the action but have nothing further to add at this stage” line, then so be it. But at least get on the front foot and have a voice. Be proactive to show fans and the media that you a) are aware and B) care.
As the incident flared early in the evening, there is plenty of time for daily newspapers to respond. This makes the first point all the more vital, but it would also be worth calling trusted sources at key publications to offer a more non-generic quote.
Be prepared to line up morning media slots for Damien de Bohun. Don’t go to ground if asked for an appearance. Oblige and arm him with simple and carefully worded key messages.
Depending on the level of coverage the incident attracts, be prepared to hold a doorstop at FFA HQ at some point on Wednesday.
Order an immediate review of security, including procuring CCTV footage, witness statements, interviewing venue staff and when necessary, talking to police or medical personnel. Make this clear in ALL communication, starting with tonight’s statement.
Establish a page online where fans can provide completely anonymous information/photos if they were at the venue and know any of the perpetrators. Even if this is fruitless, it demonstrates quick and proactive work by the FFA to stamp out the problem.
Be clear in stating potential repercussions. While impossible to issue punishments for an ongoing investigation, take the hard line by stating that “life bans are not out of the question” to show the league is serious. Follow through.
Organise players from both teams to record a joint video in the next 24 hours, reinforcing the message of passion for your club, but also having respect for fellow fans. Emphasis to be placed upon the fact that “we” can’t grow as a sport without the support of the community and that this kind of incident is counter-productive to football a whole.
Both clubs to send an EDM containing the above video, along with a written statement from their captain. It’s important for this to happen sooner rather than later.
Provide briefing notes and key messages to the CEO of each club for any media enquiries. Maintain a hard line.
Send players to visit fans who were injured (but not directly involved) in the fight. Not only is this just the right thing to do, but (perhaps from a more cynical point of view), it publicly shows that the A-League cares deeply about the upshot of fan incidents, as they bloody well should.
If applicable, arrange to pay medical costs for those caught in the crossfire. Reports have indicated that a six-year-old boy is among those receiving treatment in hospital.
Be prepared for similar tactics in the build-up to Round 3 when the two sides clash for the first time in a competitive fixture on October 20.

Wanderers = Sydney Croatia in disguise.

Croatia hooligans = BBB (Bad Blue Boys)

Wanderers hooligans = RBB (Red and Black Bloc)

I bet is 'old soccer' trying to take on 'new football'.

Big call MR C ... loved this bit from the smh today...

Some things never change. A ''soccer riot'' and, in the depths of the A-League off-season, the game finds its way on to the back page. As a point of order, what's the quorum for a riot? There's a photo on Facebook of the seven hooded young men who allegedly started Tuesday night's fracas behind the hill at Campbelltown. Is that enough for a brawl to become a riot? Maybe. It seems about 15 to 20 people were involved. Either way, no one should be surprised by the default position of the mainstream media. What's a ''scuffle'' in another sport - let's say cricket - is routinely a ''riot'' in football. Always has been, always will be.
But while that predictable sensationalism continues to irk the game's army of conspiracy theorists, it doesn't mean what happened in the pre-season game between Sydney FC and NSW second-tier side Macarthur Rams should be swept under the carpet either.

Also loved this post on the SFC forum

IMO this whole thing is actually a blessing in disguise.

It happened in the depths of the NRL season, infront of only 2,300, and no TV cameras. By tomorrow the media will be more concerned with NRL & AFL again.

Imagine if had happened in round 3, a marquee event in front of 25,000 people and a live TV audience?

Now the FFA and stadium security firms across the country have been forewarned, & will know what they are dealing with. RBB will be treated like caged animals from here on in, and derbies will be relaively safe. I expect they’ll be kept cordoned & caged even worse than the Tards are now, and Paramatta Stadium security will make their lives a nightmare at home games.

Even better, the farkwits will probably be weeded out of WSW’s support even before a ball is kicked. I dont believe the vast majority of WSW’s fans want this shit to go down either.
