Bugger, those who wanted the season brought forward won!

Also, back to Thursday night games?

HAL 5 Draw launched on Monday at Macquarie Park, so we shall see then I suppose ..

Macquarie Park? SFC getting publicity paid for by the FFA again?

No, it is being held at sponsor Hyundai's premises.

Anyway Macquarie Park is our territory, isn't it Marconi_girl?  Home of Spirit FC who wear our logo .. and will be playing St George at Christie Park at 7:30pm tonight

I note that with PSC dumping (oh, to be in Orange come July) we will play Wellington this side of the ditch in a trial

Interesting. As for Mac Park - SFC train there, so they'd make some claim too...

Pre season cup has been axed!!!!!!!!!!

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/101203,phoenix-preseason-cup-axed.aspx

THE A-League pre-season cup has been axed ahead of season five which kicks off on August 7, according to reports in New Zealand.
Wellington Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata confirmed the news when speaking to The Dominion Post.

The report said that the Cup had been cancelled because most A-League clubs wanted to arrange their own games.

It means fans in Wellington may not have a chance to see Phoenix play until the start of the new season. The draw for A-League season five will be announced this Monday.

Pignata said Phoenix hoped to arrange at least seven matches before the A-League starts on August 7. This included a potential trip to China in July for three games against CSL opposition.

Currently, two pre-season matches are scheduled against A-League opposition - Melbourne at home and Central Coast away. But that game against the premier could be staged in another New Zealand city.

"We're talking with Christchurch about going down there and doing a training camp, maybe playing a Canterbury selection and Melbourne Victory," Pignata told the newspaper. "We were very well received there last year."

Christchurch could also be in line to host a regular season match, with Phoenix set to take two of their 13 home fixtures outside Wellington for the first time, added the report.

The New Zealand franchise is continuing to put pressure on the FFA to have a reserve team in the national youth league, with the club arguing it's unfair their fringe players do not get game time like other A-League clubs in the NYL.

The official draw for next season will be unveiled by the FFA on Monday.

Is this a hint that the FFA are about to launch the FFA Cup? Which will be expanded in time?

doubt it'll be this year though, few teams touring overseas, overseas teams coming here, the acl, and a few trials already organised

Well, Zac and I may be at the launch!!! Junior is very interested in this.

Thursday, August 6. Auburn may have to speak to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and head down on the Thursday morning, taking the Thursday Night off work. Mmm, sounds very good.

FFA Reveal New Seaon Draw

THE NEW A-League season will kick-off earlier and run later than ever before because of the arrival of Gold Coast United and North Queensland Fury.

Releasing the draw in Sydney today, Football Federation Australia (FFA) CEO, Ben Buckley, said that there would be 51 more games in the regular season in 2009/10 compared with the previous four seasons of the Hyundai A-League.

"There will be 10 teams this season playing 6 more rounds of football and resulting in 51 more games than previous seasons played in 13 cities.

"This draw is good news for players, fans, clubs and the media," Buckley said.

"We have two new teams, 135 games and a total of 12,150 minutes of game time in the regular season alone."

The Finals Series will involve a Top 6 :yellowcard:, with more chances for the two teams who finish in the Top 2, and with seven matches in total.

"The 2009-10 season will start slightly earlier than previously (on 6 August) to allow for the additional rounds but this was the preferred solution of FFA and the Hyundai A-League clubs."

Buckley also explained the issues that bear on the construction of the Hyundai A-League draw.

"We have a number of unique international factors which have to be taken into account which are placeholders for the draw."

These include:

FIFA match dates involving the Qantas Socceroos

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup qualifying fixtures for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup

AFC Champions League fixtures involving Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets, and

potential participation of either Central Coast or Newcastle in the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup (emulating Adelaide United's achievement from 2008).

Buckley said that there were other issues to factor into the draw, such as:

        Club and fan preference

        player and match official welfare

other major events including other sporting codes fixtures

        venue availability, and

        broadcaster preferences.

"We also want to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy games in peak times such as public holidays and over the festive season."

FFA has continued with a Saturday evening Grand Final (on 20 March 2010), which was introduced this year.

The first round of the Hyundai A-League 2009-10 season will kick off on Thursday 6 August featuring champions Melbourne Victory against AFC Champions League participants, Central Coast Mariners.

The round continues on Friday 7 August when Adelaide United host Perth Glory, while Saturday 8 August sees the beginning of what Buckley described as a "beautiful rivalry" between Brisbane-based Roar and Gold Coast United, as well as North Queensland Fury and Sydney FC.  The first round concludes with Newcastle Jets v Wellington Phoenix on Sunday 9 August.
