When Wanderers went wide last week they got SFC on the back foot. Sadly, they just kept turning it back inside or stuffing up the crossing (or worse gave it to Nicholls to lose it)

SFC had a really high line as Wanderers have no pace - we do and I would expect them to sit a bit deeper - especially if Trent plays.

A competitive defeat is progress from last season

Bulut missed a few he should have slotted. I have no doubt we will take Wilko's Sydney Fc cherry.

The Sky Blues have proved Central Coast’s bogey team in recent years but something could be brewing in Gosford. Can Paul Okon’s Mariners build on last week’s comeback and bring a flying Sydney FC back down to earth?

BLUFFER’S GUIDE
Okon’s magic appears to already be rubbing off on the Mariners. Okay, it was only 45 minutes but the signs in the second half against Perth last weekend are promising. If they were 3-0 down last season, it probably would have ended in a defeat. But they showed character, spirit and quality to fight back and claim a draw. And oh how those Mariners fan love a team with grit and determination. A win over the Sky Blues – a team they haven’t beaten in their last six attempts – would be a huge statement. It won’t be easy though. Sydney FC laid down a huge marker with their Round 1 performance, crushing Western Sydney Wanderers. Clinical, confident, powerful and slick. Graham Arnold has his side firing on all cylinders right now. With a Westfield FFA Cup semi-final to come next week as well, it’s a good time to be a part of the Sky Blues revolution and they will be keen to keep the momentum rolling in front of their home fans. There should be some added spice as well with Arnold, Alex Wilkinson and Matt Simon all former Mariners, while Mickael Tavares, Jacques Faty and Ivan Necevski travelled up the F3 in the off-season. History and Round 1 form would point to a Sky Blues win but there’s a different feeling around the Mariners.

ROUTE TO GOAL

How good was Sydney’s front four on the opening weekend. The combination play – especially between Bobo and Filip Holosko – was stellar – while Milos Ninkovic and David Carney also shone brightly.
With Alex Brosque and Matt Simon both making impacts off the bench – and Bernie Ibini still to come back into the side – Arnie has so many different options at his disposal.
Brandon O’Neill and Josh Brillante are providing a strong base in midfield, and Rhyan Grant and Michael Zullo joining in from fullback means the Sky Blues are hard to contain.
For the Mariners, striker Roy O’Donovan lived up to his pre-season promise to score more goals with a double against Glory.
No doubt he would have enjoyed the service from pacy pair Connor Pain and Trent Buhagiar from wide areas, while Blake Powell looks a handy option at number 10.
With the firepower in both squads, there’s potentially plenty of goals at Allianz on Saturday.

WHO’S BEEN IN THE SPOTLIGHT THIS WEEK?
Jacques Faty. The experienced central defender was hooked by coach Paul Okon at half-time against Glory after a forgettable 45 minutes. Will he get a chance to atone against his former club?

FORM LINES

The Sky Blues were the most impressive performers of the opening weekend, a second half onslaught helping them demolish local rivals Western Sydney 4-0.
For the Mariners, they also saved their best for the second half, fighting back from a 3-0 deficit at the break to snatch a point against glory in the West.
That means between the two, they scored seven goals and all in the second half!

PREDICTION
Sydney FC 3-2 Central Coast Mariners

Good test for us. Sydney have arguably the best defence in the league on paper. And plenty upfront. I think Monty and Taveres can take them in the middle though, and our attackers are definitely capable of scoring... so it's about how our defensive structure holds up.

I'm looking forward to this game more than last week's. I'm not expecting a win - I think Sydney's attack are going to cause problems for our defence. Faty isn't the only problem we had in defence last week, and our defensive problems started in the middle of the park.
I'm increasingly feeling like this needs to be a big focus for us, both in terms of recruitment and training.
I think Sydney's off-the-ball movement is going to shoot some big holes in our defence.
But perhaps WSW made SFC look good. They certainly did their fair share of ball watching.

Reading an article the other day, no link sorry, arguing that even in the socceroos the defence is week - as a country we just don't prioritise defence. I don't have the knowledge to argue one way or another. But it's amazing how many defenders just stand there flatfooted and all watching.

Anyway, getting off topic. Has the potential to be a high scoring match, but I reckon the boys will be revved up. I still f****** hate the incompetent FFA for their start of season scheduling - and a conspiracy theorist would be wondering if this has been a deliberate attack on our club. But I hope there will be a decent away contingent.

Sing lound and proud!!!!!:pirashoot::pirashoot::pirashoot:

The pressure is all on Sydney FC, says Okon:
gettyimages-612920994.jpg

Central Coast coach Paul Okon has declared that as one of the championship favourites, Sydney FC, carry the burden of pressure going into Saturday's A-League meeting against his new-look Mariners.

Despite Okon admitting team confidence was sky high on the back of the Mariner's dramatic three-goal comeback against Perth last weekend, he was happy to point out that the Sky Blues' 4-0 Sydney derby win brought with it a level of expectation, especially when facing last season's wooden-spooners.

In his maiden campaign in charge, Okon was more than happy for his unfancied side to fly under the radar.

"The pressure is not on us," the former Young Socceroos mentor said.

"No one really rates the Mariners, no one thinks the Mariners are any good.

"So we will travel to Sydney with confidence, we'll play our football the way we want to play, and once the whistle goes at the end of the game, see where we're at."

Okon and Sydney coach Graham Arnold's relationship stretches back to their days playing together for the Socceroos, and on different teams in the NSL and Belgium.

It will be the first time the pair have coached against each other, though their exchanges in the lead-up have contained more pleasantries than Arnold's famed pre-match wind-ups.

"There hasn't been any taunting each other or trying to see who's more nervous," Okon said.

"It's all about everyone looking forward to the contest and preparing their own team."

Former Sydney FC player Jacques Faty will be lucky to retain his starting spot for the Mariners after contributing to all Glory's three goals last weekend.

Central Coast will also hope to have winger Fabio Ferreira (calf) back, though his replacement for the match against Glory, Trent Buhagier, was in sterling form flanking brace-scorer Roy O'Donovan in tandem with left winger Connor Pain.

Okon hadn't yet made a call on Ferreira on Friday, who is still regaining fitness.

"Whether he starts the game or comes off the bench, or just misses out because of what we're looking for further on in the season is still yet to be decided," he said.

"We want to make sure that whichever starting XI goes out there we have everyone at 200 per cent."
