Looking forward to seeing if we can back up our second half performance. The most exciting thing for me last week was that we had a clear game plan. So we have a definite target and things we are working and adjusting so we can be a winning team.

I loved Saturday's fightback but I'm more comfortable going into this with low expectations. I'm not expecting the same commitment and enterprise we showed in the second half against Perth but I'm happy to be surprised come Saturday if the boys stand up.

I've heard quite a few folks say WSW's awfulness masked Sydney's issues the other night... I'd be interested to know what others who watched the derby thought.

I thought the Wanderers were pretty good in the front third and they're only going to get better in that department once Martinez and Kusukami settle in. Their defence was abysmal though they weren't able to organise themselves and hold a line properly. Sydney definitely didn't deserve the scoreline they were disjointed for a majority of the game. A fair reflection of the game would have probably been 3-1.

At the ground, Wanderers 451 negative tactics let Sydney come on to them and they were simply awful.
Sydney should have been 3 up at half time.
Matty Simon did someone for pace over 50m for the 4th don't forget.

We won't be that bad and we have a better keeper than Redmayne.

I'd like to see a battling draw but I fear Sydney will be too good. 1-2 or the like sadly

Was watching Wilko on foxsports news and it really sunk in that we'll be playing against him this weekend. f**king hurts. Would have been f**king outstanding to have him at the back this season

Matty's attempts to get our dander up. Pretty weak bait IMO

This time last year, Sydney FC striker Matt Simon unleashed a verbal tirade on his former club Central Coast Mariners. But ahead of Saturday's meeting of the two teams, it was the casual dismissal of his old employers that will hurt them the most.

Last year Simon slammed the administration of his former club, accusing Mariners chairman Mike Charlesworth of being out of touch with the region. With Mariners fans still coming to terms with their local hero playing against their club, Simon followed up that barb with the knockout blow, two goals off the bench that sealed a 3-1 win for Sydney FC.

His celebrations poured salt on the wound, but on the eve of facing his old club again, Simon delivered another telling blow, saying he feels nothing for Central Coast Mariners, the club he was released by and where many thought he would become a great.

Simon says he is no more excited about Saturday night's match at Allianz Stadium than he would be for a clash against Wellington, Brisbane or Newcastle.

"I don't think of it as any different to another game," Simon said on Wednesday. "Now I'm just a Sydney FC player. I'm loving my time here and I don't think of it any differently and I'm just loving my time here.

"I had many years there playing for Central Coast and, as I said in the lead-up to that game, I was a Sydney FC player and it was the first time I would play against them. It was something I never thought would happen, but it was a good night for myself and the team."

The 30-year-old striker is one of seven members of Sydney's football department who previously played or coached at Central Coast before making their way south down the Pacific Highway. Alongside Simon on the Sky Blues roster is former Mariners' captain Alex Wilkinson, goalkeeper Danny Vukovic and winger Bernie Ibini, while former Mariners coach Graham Arnold, strength and conditioning coach Andrew Clark and goalkeeping coach John Crawley occupy the dugout.

Despite the strong history they share from their days at Gosford, Simon says none have discussed their time at the Mariners this week.

"We're all Sydney FC players now and we're just looking forward to putting in a good performance on the weekend and getting a result against whoever we're playing," he said. "They've got a few players that played for our club and it would be good to see them again. I'm sure it would be a good game."

Matty , Journalist's attempt.

Simo's 'just another game' comment regarding his thoughts on playing against a former club is de rigueur for Footballer's the world over.

Pfff .... more like in my eye reading that fluff.

Yep crap article, still wonder how Simon is loving SFC so much when he is nothing but a specialist bench warmer especially since they are not in the ACL this season. Doubt the plastics will want him if Arnie moves then he will have to convince the new SFC manager he is worth the effort. Sure your living the dream Matt.

Meh - I don't see the issue. Whether he's lost his love for our club or not, you wouldn't exactly expect him to profess it while wearing the jersey of a different team would you?
In fact i thought he was measured and respectful in how he went about those "goal celebrations" last year, fishing a hang-ten then moving on.

Again I'd be more disappointed if i was an SFC fan, that for all their money, they've still ended up having to almost purchase our success rather than develop their own - but hey, that's just me.

He doesn't think of it as any different to other games cause as Tevor put it, he'll be on the bench and not playing just like every other game. Might have played the 10 with us last year (until someone else showed up) if he wasn't intent on raping the club in his contract negotiations.

Just another one to have left acrimoniously and gone onto...........well not much.

Actually found myself cheering fir the wanderers last week which I've never done before.
Goal 1 this season - don't finish last
Goal 2 - witness absolute capitulation of the smurfs.

I`m looking forward to this match with no great expectations.
Okon, has done well but he had heaps of luck & TBH we could have copped a thrashing.
Hopefully, the boys got some confidence out of the Perf game & have worked hard this week trying to plug the holes.

I hope they get a chance to watch how Japan defended in the first half last night.
That was awesome, just so disciplined in defence & hard to break down.

It`ll be an interesting duel between Roy O & Wilko.
Our 3 ex SFC player`s should lift a bit playing against their old club but I think the danger for us comes with Holosko & Carney.
Carney has the knack of doing bugger all for a lot of the game then either scoring or assisting.

I`m also looking forward to donning the Mariner`s gear for the first time this season.
COYY!!!

Should be more about how they blew their crap season on a trip to Gosford where they couldn't beat one of the worst teams ever.

3 games last year means everyone except Syd Mariner has moved on.

Sure your living the dream Matt.
Your wrong !
- he IS living his dream !!!

Option A:
Hanging gyprock, slinging mud & sanding that shit all day.

OR

Option B:
Playing as a professional Footballer, travelling all over Australia & getting paid for it.

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out, after weighing up the two that one of them is a nightmare by comparison.

Simo's NOT boasting, he's just telling the truth in that ....... he IS living HIS dream !

Absolutely !

In fact 'those goal celebrations' in his wonder-game last year had NOTHING to do with them being scored against the Mariners.

The 'Hang-Loose' or 'Shaka' sign that Matty signalled with a kiss and then into the air on both his goals wasn't to stick it to his former club, it WAS a celebration for his first born, plain & simple.

1476277638138.gif

His child had serious medical issues at birth and was the reason Maty and his partner were trapped for months in Hawaii, unable to fly back to Aus until Doctors gave the OK.

This dire situation, was also why Simo took months to get his fitness back - once he had returned to AUS/CCM, because of him being out for all those months with this very stressful family matter.

I'm fairly certain that in the future, whenever Simo puts the ball into the back of the net against ANY TEAM
- youll be seeing one of these:

Just 'hope to hell' its NOT this Saturday nite !
- as he played last week with setting up a nice assist & ....
... he'll be on the bench and not playing just like every other game.

.. & Im sure as shit Arnie will be giving him game time this week, vs his old club. ;)

style's japan analogy nailed it for me . we were lucky to rescue a point against perth and the blue samurai,
but for a momentary brain fart .
no space equals holosko and bobo not running rampant.

I dunno... I'm curious to see that actually but, there's nothing left really, of the team that they were both part of... There's what? Two players left of the squad that won the championship?
Playing Matty had a psychological advantage, when both fans and team saw someone that had played and "bled" for/with them... Now though, different team, different style... I'm not sure he gets any psychological edge out of it, so to my mind, it would really be down to your standard fitness replacement.

I'm guessing he'll be spending the evening on the bench, unless the game somehow turns quite physical... At best, it'll be something like the last 10...
