Marques didn't see too much action. Made 1 good save diving low to his left. Made another save tipping one out that was heading to top right corner but he had it covered all the way.

Hoole slipped over a lot, but he was quite active.

Hieriej look great, he made some really nice passes and had some really nice touches. He's not very big, but I think he will be every bit as good as touted.

Marques didn't have much to do. One smart stop down low to his left and another looping ball he tipped over.
Hoole scored 2 belters and a peno, some good movement.
Tommy H looks the goods. Hybrid 6/10, can strike a ball too from the looks.
Lachie wales did nicely too.
Hard to get a proper gauge after only 35mins especially against lower level opposition but good to see the boys go round regardless.

Marques definitely had the busier half but still not that busy. The defence in the first half was solid which made Pearce's game easy with Golec at LB and Rowles at LCB both looking okay. Marques in the second half looked comfortable with the ball at his feet and made 3 good saves.

Only 4 first squad players in the second half with Baro standing out in defence in the second half and combining well with Hiariej. Tommy also was not afraid to tackle hard and rode challenges on him very well in spite of being relatively small. Had a very good long range strike and also took the corners.

Hoole was a surprise playing as an attacking midfielder. Looked a much better player than he did playing wide at Newcastle.

Roux presumably on a break after going to the Confederations Cup. Ascroft on trial overseas. Blake Powell???

If that's the guy his stats put him at an av of 1 goal every 4.47 games in all games played.
At that rate he would score 6 goals in an A League season.

In the first hit out of the 2017/18 pre-season the Central Coast Mariners have earned a convincing win over the Central Coast All Stars where Andrew Hoole headlined thanks to his quick fire hat-trick.

The Run Down

The Central Coast Mariners enjoyed their first pre-season fixture of the campaign at Pluim Park on a cold Tuesday night against the Central Coast All Stars, a team comprised of the best local talent from the region.

In his first appearance in Yellow & Navy, Andrew Hoole took the first half by the scruff of the neck by scoring an impressive hat-trick in just 24 minutes. His three goals were comprised by two solo strikes from distance and a penalty, which he won after being fouled in the box.

The Central Coast All Stars did themselves proud, defending astutely against the Mariners whilst creating a couple of half chances of their own.

In the attacking stocks for the Mariners, Josh Bingham looked very dangerous on multiple occasions only to be denied twice by the offside flag, as did young gun Peter Kekeris who created two chances from the left wing.

After heading into the sheds with a 3-0 lead, both teams were completely changed at half time and Jake McGing handed the captain’s armband to Alan Baro at centre back.

A deflected shot off Kwabena Appiah extended the Mariners lead to 4-0 in the second half which was quickly matched by a close-range header from Academy’s Duncan Stewart to make it 5-0.

Connor Pain also found his name on the scoresheet in the second half who converted a precision Stewart cross.

The Central Coast Mainers would like to thank all of the dedicated fans who came out and supported both the Mariners and Central Coast All Stars at Pluim Park. It was a great night for football on the Central Coast.

Goals

9’ HOOLE GOAL: The Mariners had a 1-0 lead in the first ten minutes, thanks to an impeccable curling strike from Andrew Hoole. His shot was directed perfectly just inside the far post for his first goal in Yellow & Navy.

12’ HOOLE (2) GOAL: Hoole calmly doubled his tally for the night and his side’s lead after winning a penalty. Hoole converted his own spot kick to make it 2-0.

24’: HOOLE (3) GOAL: A third goal from Hoole made it 3-0 and this time it was again outside the box that delivered his hat-trick in just 24 minutes.

43’ APPIAH GOAL: A strong shot on goal from Stewart deflected off Appiah into the back of the net to open the second half.

50’ STEWART GOAL: A clean header from Duncan Stewart rocketed across the line to put the Mariners ahead 5-0 from close range.

64’ PAIN GOAL: A combined attacking effort from the Mariners allowed Connor Pain to make a swift strike from close range. Appiah played the ball wide to Stewart who delivered a precision cross, Pain was in the right place at the right time to finish for 6-0.

“We haven’t been training for too long and most of these boys haven’t played since April so it’s important that we got through our first game with no complications and no injuries,” Okon said. “We were able to play a bit of football, score some goals, start to refine our playing style and introduce it to a number of players who are new to it. All in all a pleasing night for everyone.

“The boys have returned in very good condition, we worked them very hard at the end of the season and they all had a program to follow during the off-season - everyone has turned up like we would have hoped.

“At the end of season we spoke about the type of team we want to be this year and we want to be one of the fittest. We’re only going to achieve that if we work hard and tonight was a step in the right direction.

“I hope he [Hoole] hasn’t scored all of his goals tonight. I have worked with Hooley before so I know his quality. He’s someone that really excites me and someone that I am confident will have a big impact on our season.

“I saw the Central Coast All Star teams play a couple of weeks ago when they played each other with Monty and we were impressed that day with the way they were playing. They were building out from the back and they had some really good individuals. It’s difficult when you come up against full-time professionals, the tempo is high, for long periods you won’t have the ball but in patches they tried to maintain possession and held themselves in high regard tonight.

“This is a great initiative and an important fixture that we hope can become a permanent one on our pre-season calendar,” Okon said.

Defensively CCM sat back at halfway when CCAS played out from a goal kick but went full on press when a player became isolated or when there was contested possession. Okon kept emphasising playing into the 'pocket' to find Hoole who was #10 or the wider midfielders (Trent, Appsi, Pain) tucking in in attack, and for the midfield to face forward and play forward, fast ball speed when passing. Rose and Tom played the same DM role each half. Baro and Tom both looked class. Hoole was sharp. Golec played LB, strong on the ball, will be interested to know if he has the pace to play there in the league. Rowles played left CB. McManus is a local who played for Manly and CCMA before going to Spain last year, spent some time at Hercules, RB or CB. Heard that Kennedy is not ready to play yet.
