That’s our model now. But you don’t make many big sales without being reasonably successful so balance is required. In terms of what they’ve said about matching visions or philosophies for the club that means a dads army bloke like John Aloisi or Popa would likely be discarded early in recruitment. If someone places their own success above contributing to the clubs financial model that wouldn’t fly either.

He needs to best the Jets and they appear to be going alright and make the finals which should be doable as not much improvement across the league

Also, winning the league here whilst blowing the budget isn’t financially viable for the long term security of the club.
Developing and selling on young players to bigger and better things is. Winning the league whilst doing that (LIKE LAST SEASON) is a bonus.
It’s really not a hard concept to grasp.
Maybe when there’s prize money for winning the league we won’t have to sell our best players to stay alive.
I suppose the real success is Saab will stay with the NPL and give that some consistency. He seemed to do a great job.
Can he recruit and bring the next group through because the old team is basically gone.

Welcome to the coast Mark. You'll have gleaned if you scan through here that there was a fan favourite for the job and he didn't get it. That is going to prompt a few salty comments.
Monty gave us a little burst of phenomenal success after years in the wilderness, and to be honest we're fearful of what the next 12 months could bring.
That being said, I think most of the fans would agree
1. We love being a club that develops youth. We're proud that we've nailed this element of financial sustainability better than anyone else in the league. We will respond well to a coach who is passionate about developing young players and giving them game time. It seems like you'll do that.
2. From our limited vantage point, we feel like the club has to be in a pretty sound position off the field. We're sometimes confused by the messages of our owner(s), but we're all massive fans of Shaun and the team at HQ. If Matt Simon and Monty voted for you, then we genuinely trust their judgment over ours and we back you in too.
3. If you buy into the coast culture and give it your best shot, if you're ambitious personally and that drives you to make the team succeed, if you show dedication to this place, we will love you. Criticism of some former managers is especially reserved for those who didn't seem to want to do the grunt work necessary to succeed with a smaller club.
4. Jump onto the Coast Football Ramble early so we get to hear from you and why you made the decision to join us. We love hearing our players and coaches interacting with fans through that platform.

Saying there was a fan favourite for the position overlooks the fact that 98% of the fan base has no idea who Ben Cahn is.
But that’s countered with 100% of the fan base not knowing who Mark Jackson is.
I’d say this has created quite a stir with around a dozen people, and we move forward.

I can only assume that RP was involved the the final decision.....
RP, does have Football Knowledge, and the best interests the club at heart.
The academy is at the heart of our club, and Marks appointment aliens to maintaining this thinking.
Ange, when he went to Scotland and then England was said to be the worst appointment in history, just maybe we have a very good coach / manager..
Give him until mid season to make a knowledgeable judgement on whether he is a good choice or not.

Ange had a winning track record with first teams. Titles with 2 clubs here and then Japan.

When he was 45 he had 2 NPL titles and had poor results with youth NT. He had just avoided the spoon in the A League after taking over from Frank Farina who had Brisbane in the six. Ange proved to be a winner. This guy has good results with youth and good os contacts. As long as he also listens to those in the club that know the Australian youth systems until he gets up to speed there is no reason to think he won't do well. Yes he got relegated with a basket case at MK Dons - but that was always on the cards.

No reason he can't do well, would have been nice to have someone that has just come out of a winning environment (e.g. Monty to Hibs) rather than being involved in 2 clubs that were both relegated last season. Doesn't mean he's not a capable Manager, just raises eyebrows.
The Dons was his first role Managing a first team so i suppose you can't expect too much, it was an underperforming team he didn't pick would be the excuse I guess. At least this time he's had the recruiting done well for him by Monty and Serge and he's got a start with the team in Preseason.
We should be thrashing Stallions next Weds, physically small side that plays on Astroturf to a few hundred fans. A win should kick start the momentum for him. If we lose, well that would be a disaster.

Until his Japanese success Ange wasn't getting a look in anywhere, especially not Celtic. Even then he had no credibility in the SPL. Fans can be fickle but turned easily. Has buy in now at Spurs and good results.
Monty has Hibs heading in the right direction in what 3 weeks because they were not a bad team on paper and really all he had to do was get buy in from players which seems was very easy. After what I've seen so far I'd be surprised if Hibs don't finish top 3.
From our AFC Cup match we are a good team, therefore MJ needs to get buy in quick and he should have some good results early because it is a good team. If we have some bad performances early it will not be a good sign. Thrashing Laguna next Wednesday will be a good start. Making the finals at a minimum this season is expected. I don't think he has a terribly hard job to get this team being competitive this season, some of the muppets we had in the past also didn't have squads like this one other than Moss who did make the finals in his first year but then we know where it went from there.
Not winning all of our home AFC cup games would be a disaster IMO. The first game we were out of season, in turmoil and had to deal with horrendous conditions (heat and humidity). We’ll be closer to match fitness now and won’t have the other excuses. I tend to think our last opponents will also be the strongest in the group but could be Bali. We should be in a good enough spot by the next away trip to take the points in any conditions they can throw at us too.

The AIS program being in turmoil also hampered the results at u/20 level.
We went from the 90’s with the AIS producing viduka, Moore, simunic, Neill, Everton, sterjovski (basically the golden generation) to the Ange NT years (2000 - 2007) where the AIS were taking in players like brad porter and Troy hearfield.
There was little money for camps and matches. And it was the time of the Crawford report. Football and the governing body were an absolute basket case.
Given in his time he won 3 ofc u/17, 3 ofc u/20 and an AFF u/19 he didnt do horribly.
He got to the knockout stage of 2 world cups (2001 we lost to Brazil and 2003 we topped a group containing Brazil and Czech) and only missed the 3rd on goal difference.
Compare that with the last 4 editions of the u/20 World Cup where we have failed to even qualify and it’s not looking so bad
