Interesting. Didn't expect to see another defender.
Paul clearly has a play style he is recruiting around and it will be different to last season.
I don't remember what it is like to have a useful back line :p

How does Golec go at Left Back? He is very tall (6'4) so Im assuming not the quickest, but he has Left Back listed as one of his positions.

This surprises me.
Rose is now in direct competition with 2 full time cb's and Tom and mcging for a starting spot. I hope he takes the challenge and steps up

Now that we have two seemingly first choice CB's I would have thought Rose would be pretty well perfect for the other DM position alongside Tom Hiariej. Therefore he would indeed be in competition with Berry and McGing, but this is just what is needed - competition for spots. At this stage I would prefer Rose over either of the other two, with Berry as the back-up to Rose.

And of course Rose has gained valuable experience as a CB, and can cover if the need arises.

Welcome to the Mariners Family, Antony Golec! http://bit.ly/2rhjZ2p #WelcomeAntony #ALeague
I am okay with this signing tbh, maybe not the 'big' name we were hoping for but a naturally left-sided CB, who can also fill in at LB if required. The benefit of having natural left and right balance from your CB's can't be overstated imo (as with Patrick and Trent for instance), so I can see why PO has signed him. I remember him as a good solid player, who brings some much needed height to our defence.

Despite my previous pessimism, I am satisfied with the club's business so far, so let us hope this is a standard that they can maintain.

This of course overlooks the (imho) obvious possibility that Rosebud could play as a No.10. The kid has the close control and vision to make a fist of that role but needs to improve his baseline fitness to effectively play higher up the park.

Yes I think your right and this is probably more likely to happen as Okon like to run with a single DM and 2 No.10s in a 433 formation. This is why Monty was playing further forward.

Reading Okon's comments on Golec and that he has been training with us I don't think he would be on huge money ...

Im not sure I would want Baro and Rose to be the CBs tbh, both under 6ft and would get monstered in the air.

If you played Rose at 10 and McGling as the 8 ... we need a left back and striker and the squad is starting to take shape.

Middie, generally I'm a big fan of your opinions, but in this case I disagree with you. Az Ozhammer says, Rose has the potential to play No 10, but isn't there yet and is nowhere near the creative and dangerous 10 for which we all yearn. And McGing, despite improvement last year, is no more than a 'squaddie' ATM.

Notwithstanding the massive improvement in recruiting, I'd be disappointed if we went with Rose at 10 and McGing at 8.

We have lost Taveras and Monty and only signed Tom

Rose can easily fill the other position
But he must earn it finally. No gifts for talent in this squad like previous squads he was part of.

Rose is now a utility like McGing. Can play backs or mids.

Maybe even a LB but I don't think he has the engine.

Look at how much work Fab did he was always gassed. No way Rose plays 10. Dare i say it Hoole would more likely fill Fab spot than Rose.

I think you're right about the money. He's only signed a one year deal.
He could be playing for cheap this season, and then hoping to get his career back on track.
Then look for something better than us next year.
