ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Well GG may have jumped the gun now that some ACL games have been postponed. Could be splinters for a while when he probably thought he was playing on Tuesday night.

Lose a couple of matches and the world is coming to an end... No wonder the players hang their heads after the first goal down.

There is heaps to be positive about!
We are a full place above the scum and in a better position now than the end of last year. We have half decent manager who is making progress. Lots of young guns coming through. Most of the deadwood is rotting away.
Shite, the sun is literally rising over the coast!
one place above the bottom team

Can you set the bar any lower!

Looking at who we have for next season they are really quite young and cheap overall. Pearce, Clisby, Rowles, Tongyik, Miller, Stensness, De Silva, Silvera & Murray. If you add Nisbet and Roberts as other probable signings it is still very young and cheap.

There is a large amount of squad space and a large amount of dosh under the cap for Staj to really get his squad for next season.

Problem is that are likely to pay overs if we are to attract any decent players to the squad. And if we are going to spend 90% of the cap again this money will chew up fast.

I’ve personally always been a massive fan of specialised coaches... ie; striker coach or defender coach.
I mean, obviously GK is the most specialised position in the sport hence you ALWAYS have a GK coach. But since pre season we’ve been screaming out for the need of a striker coach.
I’d call for Macca if he wasn’t with jets youth, so why not someone like Kwassie? Or bring in Mori? Intelligent genuine finishers in their day who would seriously help Murray especially.

the problem with Kwassie as a would be striker coach is that he didn't know what he was going to do with the ball....it either just happened or it didn't. How could he possibly coach that to our strikers? Mori on the other hand...yes. But I'd prefer McBreen back.....he's often at our home games anyway ;-)

Most proper pro sports have speciality coaches with the head coach responsible for tactics. We defs need someone to come in and help work on our final third.

you do realise there is different roles and types of strikers?
Kwassie was a poacher, it is not always luck that poachers are in the right spot right time. Anyone that’s ever spoken in length with kwas knows his intelligence about strikers.
He would 100% pass better knowledge onto Murray than what Simon has been because muzz has seriously gone backwards and forgotten how to score. If you watch even the basic way he was striking the ball in NPL to now is polar opposite.

And yes I do think Macca would stay at the Jets, he’s now the youth head coach with rosey as his assistant.

Traitors.
You're young as you told us in another recent post. This is people's livelihood you are talking about and he has a good thing going with them, probably a career path identified and a familiar and trusted figure in Laurie. In a small industry like professional sports it doesnt get better than that, to chuck it in over loyalty to a club thats very different now would be idiotic. You'd hope he has a soft spot for us but stability is everything when you have responsibilities and commitments to look after.

Of course. You'd be pretty silly to reject a management opportunity alongside someone you played with for a good amount of time. Even though it's a close rival, you shouldn't turn down an opportunity to start your management career.

Just joking :). Congrats Macca. No matter what he does beyond this point, he still remains the greatest forward to ever grace this club. The fact he played out 4 fantastic years for us is more than enough loyalty.

And don't forget he didn't leave us to go north, he retired. Also, he grew up in the Newcastle area, so he'd go back there after his pro career was over. No disloyalty from Macca. He's good.

He was there when we beat Sydney 7-2 and he was there when we hoisted the title. Don't think I could ask for much more.

What a great forward he was. Any youth striker at Newcastle has the best mentor in the country.
