Heading towards the end of the season it looks like it is a race in 4 for automatic promotion.
Wolves look certain to be promoted which leaves Brimingham, Sheffield and Reading.
I think Sheffield UTD will be promoted! They are playing great football at the moment and getting results.
That leaves Brimingham and Reading to play in the playoffs with Cardiff pretty secure in 5th. There is about 5 teams looking for 6th and i would favour Burnley to grab 6th.

All in all i think Wolves, Sheffield UTD and Brimingham to be promoted.

Sheffield United hitting form at the right time. Would have gone up last season had they not appointed Bryan Robson at the start.

Interesting times in the championship. Birmingham could have cemented their spot with a win but went down the Preston North End. Sheffield United meaning they are one point behind Birminhgam with one game to go.

Birmingham have to travel to Reading who amazingly still have a chance of direct promotion while Sheffield travel to lowly Barnsley.

Rather hope its Sheffield (even though they are high on my most hated list)

If they go to the EPL, there will be a lot of squad players/ juniors etc who will be released to make way for the usual over priced lightweights from E Eurpoe (that promoted sides tend to buy)

Few scraps might be available for us???

purely for potential benefits to us we've got to hope that the blades go up (not just players, but also from more money floating around the entire blades network).

Well, Reading won their game in hand which makes the table extremely interesting with one game to go:

Birmingham - 80 (+16)
Sheffield United - 79 (+25)
Reading - 77 (+33)

For the last game Reading host Birmingham and Barnsley host Sheffield United. It is still conceivable that Reading take the automatic spot.

Between Norwich and Barnsley for the last relegation spot.

Poor Southampton. It's a culmination of years and years and years of bad management under Askham and then Lowe.

Norwich, likewise, never recovered from Robert Chase's asset-stripping in the mid-90s.

Southampton will go out of business in eight days unless they find a buyer, according to a source at St Mary's. The Championship club, whose holding company went into administration last month, were relegated to League One on Saturday, the first time since 1960 they will have been in the third tier. The players are understood to have been paid last week thanks only to 130,000 raised by fans under a Save Our Saints appeal.

Southampton will play their final game of the season at Nottingham Forest on Sunday but the source says they will be forced to fold two days later unless one of the consortiums which have expressed interest in the club completes a deal. Two buyers are said to be keen.

Adding to Saints' worries is the pitch invasion at the end of Saturday's 22 draw at home to Burnley, which saw home supporters throw objects at the visiting fans and exposes the club to a possible fine from the Football Association. "I just hope they don't punish us for that as well because the club has to find a buyer and any further threat of punishment will not help us to do that," said Mark Fry, the joint administrator.

Southampton already face the prospect of starting next season with a 10-point penalty. That was imposed last Thursday by the Football League, which ruled that the holding company, Southampton Leisure Holdings plc, the stadium company and the football club were "inextricably linked as one economic entity".

The penalty was such that, if they pulled out of the relegation places, it would apply this season and so take them down; or, if they did not escape by their own means, it would apply next season. The draw with Burnley condemned them to relegation regardless. "I am not condoning the invasion," said Fry, "but after the announcement on Thursday emotions were bound to be running high."

Southampton will appeal against the 10-point punishment. "Our main concern has to be the appeal," said Fry. Lawrie McMenemy, the club's FA Cup-winning manager in 1976, appealed to fans before Saturday's match, for further rescue funds. It looks a case of now or never.

Here's in a nutshell some of what's happened at Southampton over the years.

Between 1955 and 1991 they had only 3 managers- Ted Bates, Lawrie McMenemy and Chris Nicholl. Bates got them their first promotion to the top flight, McMenemy an FA Cup win and 2nd in the league, Nicholl had Shearer and Le Tissier come through under his watch.

Since then, look how many managers have been through the joint. Ian Branfoot became a real hate figure and was removed after a particularly ugly campaign against him. Alan Ball got them out of trouble and back into the top half of the table, but he left for Man City. Merrington and Souness each had a year. Dave Jones had 3 in which time Saints made a bit of progress, then more under Hoddle and then Strachan.

And it was all downhill from there.
