Woody is a class above everyone else in the mens Premier League, he definitely has the potential to go far.  It will be good to watch him rip this Saturday against Budgewoi.

Brady is also progressing extremely well.  I don't think I've met someone more dedicated and keen to achieve his goals.  Personally I think we will be seeing him make a debut for the Mariners this season.  Recently he's been playing up front with Matty Simon and hopefully we will be see offered a professional contract.

Good to see some Central Coast boys being recognised!

Brady Smith is a great prospect. Think Nathan Burns with more pace and you have a reasonable description

We've pretty much got a full line-up for the senior side, do we have any idea who will be on the final list for Tobes' Tyros?

Sherlock homes in on Mariners youth squad

FOOTBALL

FORMER Orange junior Nathan Sherlock looks set to be a part of the Central Coast Mariners squad for the inaugural National Youth League next season.

Sherlock, who plays with Sydney Olympic in the NSW Premier League, has played a few trial games with the Mariners A-League squad and has impressed Youth League coach Alex Tobin.

The teenager has made an impression on Tobin and the mentor hinted the former Orange junior was likely to be one of the central defenders in his squad for the upcoming season.

Nathan has done pretty well in that he has played first grade for Sydney Olympic at such a young age so I would think that he would be as good a chance as anybody, Tobin said of the likelihood Sherlock will play for the Mariners.

He has done particularly well and the Mariners are very keen on him and are looking to make something happen.

The National Youth League competition will be run parallel to the A-League and the Mariners are likely to announce who their first players for the inaugural season are in the coming weeks.

Should he be picked up by the Mariners, Sherlock would be one of the youngest in the under 23s squad, although his performances during his trial with the Gosford-based club have belied his youth.

Nathans trial has mainly been playing first team trial games with the Mariners. He has done pretty well in those games and that has let us know he is able to step up, Tobin said.

Hes very composed under pressure. Being a central defender there is a lot of goings-on and he can handle himself against bigger, stronger players.

(But) probably most of all was that he could play against senior players and look comfortable.

He just looked like he belonged there.

Sherlock went to Sydney to play in 2004 and has been a regular in the Sydney Olympic team this year in the NSW Premier League.

He certainly isnt slower. The kids is a speed freak. Really low centre of gravity, incredibly quick feet. If he continues to develop the way he is, sky might just be the limit for him.

I reckon the Mariners would be crazy not to sign Luke Pilkington after his performance on Saturday against the Jets

Then again I might be a little biased
