Great news. Well earned. Great for the club and player

Is great at breaking up play but couldn’t hit a sumo wrestler from 5 mtrs away. Worst passer in the team.

Also allows Nizzy to play in his preferred role

Maybe you should clean your glasses on and do some stats. Any games I have looked at closely show Stensness to be the biggest earner of the ball on transition and usually the lowest in terms of losses of the ball - so likely the best passer in the team. Net results are way above anyone else at Mariners.
I am always amazed at how some viewers look through very blinkered optics, the ones that confirm their prejudices. With his loss, there won't be any third place next year, but of course the doubters will find some other excuses for that.
Stensness is gone for a reason. It's because he is quality and those who know their football recognise this. His sale will help the club owner financially, so there's the win. Unfortunately results will suffer meanwhile.
I agree it's a big win for Vikings. Not only will he improve their results as he has ours, I reckon they will make a very decent earn with the on-sell.

Sometimes Stens’ passing was truly sublime, but he did f**k up the simple ones a few times a game. I don’t think he was the worst passer, Nigro gets that for me.
I think he was more accurate when players were running on to his passes, rather than doing the statue thing so common at Mariners.

centre back .he did well and every tape they watch of him with will be at DM .
they be laughing their heads off and snap him up.
I saw them. At least one MOM performance, playing out of position. I doubt Stensness will want to go back to the kiwi setup to do that again. He'd have to be pissed off not being able to show skills in his best position in one of the biggest shop windows this side of the World Cup.
I also doubt it's a coincidence that he played so well against the Norway team at the U20 World cup, given the Vikings are Norwegian. That's two years ago as per the releases.

Feel free to borrow them because you probably missed it because his passes missed by that much. It wasn’t just once. It was plenty of times.

i have no preduce against him, his bad passes were that bad they are memorable. It is a weakness of his.

It was like he was trying to putt with a 1 wood. No ability to control the power or direction.

I said he was a good ball winner and there was no dispute about that. He is very good at it and uses his strength well.

I wish him well and the team was playing well with him and Olli and possibly could be weaker for it.

I take a slightly different view Middy. We haven’t lost Gianni yet and DDS has been replaced by a German international. Clisby, who was a serviceable player has been replaced by someone I believe to be a red hot prospect and Nigro, who was again a serviceable player will be replaced by two promising youth players in Miller/Hall.

Not disputing that we need more signings but I would far rather they were considered ones, even if that means being patient in order to net the right individuals.

Nothing the club has done so far has caused me any concerns personally and I have faith that the right processes are being followed behind the scenes, so we all need to believe that Ken and Monty can put a competitive roster together.
Thoroughly agree. For mine you’ve got the glass very half empty on this one middy. Retaining the core spine of a successful team and not being gutted is a massive win for us.

I’m more positive about our roster now than I was last year. Stens is a loss, but exactly like Nigro was a player we can afford to lose given our squad and the injection of cash will only help. Clisby needed to be replaced and has with a player who looks more promising. DDS was the biggest loss I thought, but in Muller I think we have a better goal scoring creative mid - we just need him fit so he can work.

The players I was most worried about losing, Birra, Marcos… (seemingly Ruon) and Kye we have kept.

We need some more attacking width but anything else is a bonus from here on in as far as I’m concerned.

I hope you are both right and I hope Monty is a great coach.... I hope we have some new signing to come...

The bones of our position is we have lost 9 players, including 4 first team selections and Three decent subs.... as well as the departure of two of the coaching staff....

We have a successful youth team coach who has no A-l experience and our last youth coach in a similar position, did not hhhhmmmmm he had a bad hand...

We still have 10 weeks to go....

But we have an international who could not make the Drive Bys first 11... and a young man who looks the goods but is still unproven...

We also are in a very strange position that a successful coach nay arguably our most successful coach, with a year to go on his contract.... with no position to go to.... quit ..... TBH I can't think of anything similar ever .....

Deep deep deep within my soul I hope you guys are right..... for the sake of the league I hope you are right... to help reboot the league and support CBS I hope you are right...

I normally agree with your posts Onto it but you must be blind freddy. Stens had a great season but his short passing was woeful. He went from a B- player to a B+ player in one season. His tackling and drive out from defence was awesome but his Achilles heel was his short passing, which is suspect at best.
We will miss him alot and we will definately be weaker without him unless we recruit well. He is actually very similar to Monty as a player.

Stens and Ollie formed a strong partnership, we will miss him. Very good ball winner and holding player. His passing was a bit shit at times, that's true, but he was no Melling.
Was only getting better, but with Niz and Hall or Ruon I think we have some excellent muscle and or skill options there.

My point on our squad to others is, yes we need more players in and depth still, but I think we're actually the closest to being able to field a known quality starting 11 side at this stage of a pre season than we have been for a long, long time.

Before Stens seemed to be leaving and assuming Ruon stays I thought we only really needed a starting RB and a partner for Marco to be in a reasonable position. Backup players will also be needed

With Stens going that now goes to 3. Still a long pre-season to go (maybe longer than we think with Covid) so I wouldn't be too worried at this stage.

As for Staj leaving I think he did a good job for us - but we also did a good job for him. He took us from wooden-spooners to third. With no extra resources and with the other teams seeing how we play under him he really was not guaranteed to have as good a year this season. with a rehabilitated reputation now is the time to leave and with tom Sermani leaving the NZ team I fully expect him to be NZ womens manager for the 2023 World Cup.

Monty might not have the experience of some other managers but neither did Kisnorbo. Monty also won;t have the resources that Kisnorbo had but they are the 2 managers with the highest qualifications in the league.

Unpopular opinion here but I don't feel too confident playing RT in defensive midfield. He has had one really really good year. Let him do it again in the same position and don't put more pressure on the guy.

It would be tragic if Niz missed his chance to play in the middle with Oil then have Ballard coming off the bench. Those two in the middle would be super mobile, both able to play as more traditional box to box midfielders.

IMO we need one more striker, one wide player who can cross a ball and a right back.

Without Stens is disappointing but in back if we were to still line up tomorrow I would still be happy to line up with a back 5 and really let young Miller and Noah go for gold down the wing.
