There is opposition in this thread from wombat that got some likes and there will be plenty of others that agree - nearly 40% of the country voted against same sex marriage. It was a factual statement that it is a contentious matter

But I agree totally it should not be contentious so everything that moves the debate forward is a good thing. It would be a positive thing all round, even if it irked some, if the APL jumped on this and had a league-wide pride round

I mean, there are people who opposed getting kids out of the salt mines so the presence of opposition is not in itself a reason not to do something.

I know this began as something directly relevant to the season, but now it’s turning into yet another discussion on politics. We have a thread for that for those interested,

Personally, though I know there are some smart people on here, I don’t come to the Central coast mariners fans forum seeking high quality political insights or debate on social issues.

There are increasingly less things that can unify across the sociopolitical spectrum. I’d like Football to remain one.

I’ll happily support a pride round. But I don’t support the many people happily widening the political divide or the demonisation of anybody. Be they gay or trans or right wing or fundamentalist Christian.

Now, hopefully back to the football. If wombat can let being equated with a child slaver go through to the keeper…

That's not what I was doing, and in the armageddon thread I noted that we need to reach out to people who disagree.

At the same time, if people have a massive issue with it they are free to stay home that day.

That's not what I was doing, and in the armageddon thread I noted that we need to reach out to people who disagree.

At the same time, if people have a massive issue with it they are free to stay home that day.

Okay. Had read that post. Reaching out is important. But the hard part right now is clearly about letting people respectfully hold views you strongly disagree with. Talking generally. Not targeting you.

I've mellowed. I'd rather talk about Football. Dibo is a lot less baiting and contrary these days so whatever floats his boat socially/politically is fine by me. I even find myself agreeing with some of his Football related posts.
