It's not cherry picking, it's acknowledgement of past performance. Not all players perform in all league's, but you do look at previous performance and make a calculated risk, and form has existed in one way or another for the 2 mentioned.
But you are right I over looked his record at alajuelenese (honest oversight).
Where his record was 22 in 99 (or around a 1 in 4.5). Still a long way off 1 in 3.

These are Urena's latest pre-Mariner stats as a CF. In the 19/20 season Urena played in the Costa Rica first Division and the K League.

In the K-League he played a total of 93 minutes over 2 games not scoring.

In the Costa Rican first Division he played a total of 1621 minutes over 20 games with 10 goals and 4 assists.

That is not cherry picking - that is looking at his most recent form in the position we signed him for. My only worry is the lack of game time since this time last year. Once he has decent fitness and plays as he is as a CF he looks to have the quality to perform well in this league.

According to our fellow posters that's cherry picking.
Any way I have him playing 400 more minutes in 19/20, for 2 more goals

Not really. Pjennings has actually put together the stats from Urena’s most recent club stints - not from a club he was at 6 years ago in San Jose. More to the point, my cherry picking comment was really directed at the comparison made with Berisha’s stints at Horsens (where he played in 2005-6 and again in 2009), and Fornaroli’s stints at Nacional (2006-2008 and 2011). All at least 10 years ago. But their stints at other clubs, when they were far less prolific, seem to have been completely overlooked.

The minutes played does not reference the competition he versed the service he received, his position in the team.
The numbers are off as well.
This is the stats I'm reading

Perry chicking, smerry picking. Kuol machine aside, I think he’s clearly the best striker we’ve had on the books since McBreen.

I think he’ll score his share. almost had a couple the other night, and has played a key role in 2 goals so far.

Besides. Let’s stay focused on the important stuff.., How f**king good are we?

I thought he was already on a scholarship?
Not arguing, I think he should be on marquee wages and build the whole f**king club around him to be totally honest
But I could’ve sworn he was already on a pro deal

i think he's got better than 10 goals for the regular season in him .
and if we get to the play offs . he may be our edge

It must be a bit of a shock to the Visa players TBH, I’m sure they looked at our last 5 years and thought this is a struggling club. Now they have to fight for a position. Urena has been involved in two goals the last two games we don’t have if he wasn’t there. I’m happy with that contribution so far, also he has a powerful shot that’s going in any game now.

Kuol goes on scoring he'd have to be a bolter for the A-League only socceroos in March.

On the one hand, that's a ridiculous statement, but on the other...who's doing better on form right now?

Good enough = old enough.

I think Staj would do well to rotate the starting pairings between Urena, Kuol and Simon. The assumption is they sub so they'll all get game time every game, and all 3 stand to be super subs.

this!
I don’t care what people have been saying about his past lack of mass goals.
This is on paper the weakest league he’s played in thus far. Once fully fit and sharp I have no doubt he’ll bang some goals. But in saying that, I don’t think the way we play suits him very well. We need to find a slightly better balance to accommodate him. But in saying that, it’s working so well why would you bother accomodating one player...

totally agree.
I also have loved Jordan Smylies input. We need to upgrade his contract too! He’s proved his worth and then some imo
I’d also like to see Tsekenis given a chance or 2. He’s been around the first team for awhile now.

Tsekenis is highly regarded by the coaching staff. Hard for him to get in ahead of Simmo, Urena, Kuol, or Bouman at the moment though!!
