FFA Cup 2019

Football in Vic has a lot of problems with this sort of behaviour.
And really....these idiots just provided the strongest argument in favour of retaining the ban on ethnic club identity and national flag displays.
Those throwing the bottles and spitting should be criminally charged and receive a lifetime ban from attending all FFA sanctioned competitions.

Anyway, fark, how good is it to be through to the semis?
I mean, we're all picking out problems and areas we're concerned with, we don't have a striker at all, and we're still through to the semis. COYY!!!!

It seemed to me that Staj had swapped Oar and DDS, playing DDS on the wide left and Oar more centrally as a 10.

My question is why ? why swap a classic winger with a classic 10 ? you could see it wasnt working and whenever DDS got on the ball he made stuff happen with his excellent passing range

He seemed to be rotating the midfield. Even more so in the second half.

I know that he likes to do this but also the crossing from the left from Oar and Clisby was quite average. Clisby was making excellent runs and the overlap with Oar was creating a heap of space. The final product was not as efficient.

I presume because Oar has been punching through well past players more directly than previously so they want him to do that more centralised so better chance at shots on goals, deflections and picking up the scraps.

It keeps Silvera on the wider right where he has been playing well and cutting in towards the middle and taking on players.

And without Kim I believe it changed the placement of Duric and Stieness being on the pitch at the same time as well.

Staj is sticking to his structure and moving players around availability and fitness.

I would rather Tommy and Silvera be wider so they can receive the ball on the run and either get better quality crosses or cut in and take the ball in.
However Staj has directed Clisby and Ziggy so far up the pitch as soon as we get the ball that they are almost getting in the way of a smoother transition and good 1,2’s (triangles) with the centre midfielders.

I am very anxious and interested to see the first 3/4 rounds to see if we get some scrappy draws and wins or we come undone and exposed once other teams get around that first line of 4.

As I said earlier - the crossing sucks. Either we master the skill and provide a striker who can take advantage of it or we reduce how much we rely on it.

Early days - Staj can see what we see

It doesn’t help that they get themselves in to a crossing position and we often don’t have numbers, or anyone at all, where they should be.

I had to laugh at whichever dumbass commentator calling out "Mariners have the numbers here!" when we had 3 attackers to about 8 defenders...

Also, smh...they have no idea about the LOTG. Concerningly Bozza was the only one who had some idea about the new handball laws (although the FFA cup plays by the old laws, not new)

Early days in the 3 year plan but a vast improvement on last year already.
Hume were a very good side and would probably wipe the floor with most NPL teams.

For mine Silvera was the stand out player in a team that really didn`t impress at all.
A lot of the players looked tired, DDS,Ziggy and Milan especially.
Majok, what can I say?
Someone said he was vying for a starting spot in our worst 11 & I tend to agree.
On that performance i`d say Bolt was better.

To be fair to Hume,on the bottle throwing episode ,I only counted 3 plastic bottles so it should be easy to pick out the idiots from the Video.
In fairness to our players,I thought they were genuinely applauding the Hume active support for their enthusiasm throughout the game.
Maybe the fans misread this.

It`s going to get interesting in the coming weeks for Staj.
Who does he leave out?
Stensness and Fox have the jump on the CB spots but with GG and Tongyik still to come back who knows.
Ziggy seems to have RB sewn up and Clisby has improved on last year and is developing some rapport with Tommy.
In the midfield it looks like Tommy has to be there ,with DDS. Kim and Milan at DM could be a battle and Silvera definitely has impressed.
Up front we basically have nothing but squad fillers, with Matty having seniority and the armband to get him over the line first.

Interesting days ahead but i`d like to see our best team on the paddock for the remainder of the preseason with midweek games for the others and the trialists...

GG offers a little bit of height at corners. If we are going to persist with Matty then he needs another target at corners with him or it is to simple to negate his lone presence in the box.

The starting squad and bench will be closely contested this year. I think Fox will have done enough to keep his foot in the door, Rowles will be looking to mark his territory and GG once fit is likely to be a starter. Tongyik would have had a real shot to cement his position if he wasn’t injured, bit of bad luck there.

A lot less depth up front and in the mids so we’ll have to see how they hold up. I find it interesting that weemac seems to have fallen off the radar again after showing promise early. To have a visa player missing the squad entirely unless injured isn’t a good situation.

That must of been fkn Simon Hill, his been knocking us forever for no reason......even Harper can count to a sufficient level to not say that stupid (maybe)

Watch us draw the winner of Zebras & Strikers tonight so we miss out on the chance of a home game and give the haters more ammunition that we have an easy/lucky run.

So what IF a couple of the boys sarcastically clapped in the direction of those pathetic face covering losers?
If your reaction to saracastic clapping is to run down to the tunnel and launch multiple projectiles from 2 metres away, you are an oxygen thief. Pea brains.
They probably took as slander against turkey.

It’s as simple as if you can give it but can’t take it, sit down.

Right, maybe, I just thought they were both roaming, but watched from my laptop which I finder harder to read the play from.

If it was Staj, then presumably looking to confuse defenders and make them both harder to target.

I like Oar making his runs central - looks dangerous. But he’s the only genuine winger in the squad imo - which is one of the issues currently with our midfield imo.

Harper and Simon were just embarrassing on the handball stuff. Mind you their whole call was terrible. Made me really miss the Tassie team.

If you watch the replay that is on the above report you will see it was one person clapping IN RESPONSE to the idiots throwing bottles.

Yep. And even if they did decide to give a cheeky clap so what. No excuse. Also I’ve got no problems wit the shit they gave to CCM. (Though I’m not one to boo or try and distract at corners or set pieces.) but if you like to give it, you have to be able to take it.

Again. Very happy to beat them. Which is all that matters and all that is remembered.
