That sounds like it’s a great chance to see the fit and get to know him a bit before making a permanent deal.

Bringing his own Assistant in as well.....will be interesting to see what happens with Monty.
Not convinced Stajcic has enough experience, first senior role in men's football doesn't fill me with confidence but i am all for giving the guy a chance. Really...how much worse can it get ( I don't even want to go there !) ?

An interesting appointment with fortuitous timing, in that it gives both the Club and the manager a trial period to see how it all may work before the vital decision (coach 2019/20) is made.
Shaun stated that recruitment will no longer be the sole responsibility of the coach as it has been in the past, so this removes what may have been a weakness in his CV.
He can obviously coach a football team on the pitch, this will be a chance to judge his man management skills (in a difficult situation) and ability to generate enthusiasm in an impossible situation. Tough gig, but if he can cope it gives him and the Club a lifeline to the future.

I watch developments with interest.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
As I understand it Stajcic was punted becausee he wouldn't let partners share a room on tour and insisted the players stay on or below their B. M. I , somehow they got offended

Toughest gig in the HAL. If you need a redemption or to prove your worth well it's a massive bite to take so I hope he can chew faster than the last 2 blokes.
Dunno if staj has the standing we need but IMO hes a big jump from anyone since GA.
I welcome the trial for both parties.

Probs never will. It's pretty controversial that the FFA won't provide evidence or reasoning for his dismissal.

In today’s climate, if there were any remotely serious charges it would never be kept under wraps. No way in hell.

Which guarantees any issues are about clashes based on feelings, differing opinions and his policies. (As Recky mentioned). And even these judging on the response of most of the playing group must have been pretty insignificant.

Very traumatic experience he’s just gone through. And now he comes to the Mariners.

Interesting year for him.

Looks like Stajcic is the man (at least for 6 weeks)

Breaking: Alen Stajcic expected to take over the Mariners for the last six weeks of the season. Story up soon @australian and @aus_sport

Former Matildas coach Alen Stajcic is in line to take the reins of embattled A-League club Central Coast Mariners for the rest of the season.

The Australian understands Stajcic is expected to replace Mike Mulvey, who was sacked on Sunday morning after the Mariners suffered an embarrassing 8-2 loss at home to Wellington Phoenix.

It is believed his former assistant with the Matildas, Nahuel Arrarte, now director of football at NSW NPL club Marconi, will be his assistant at the Mariners.

Stajcic was dumped by Football Federation Australia in January over allegations of a toxic environment with the Matildas.

He had taken them to number six in the world and was in line to take them to the World Cup in France in June until FFA moved. He was subsequently replaced by Ante Milicic.

Stajcic had been involved in women’s football for 20 years and this is his first senior job in men’s football.

He will take over for the next six weeks but faces a tough task turning the club around.

Who is a director of football at Marconi. Brilliant we need one of those as well. Give him the duel role

Happy with Staj. Hates the FFA and has a point to prove. Players need a good kick up the arse and l reckon he'll do it.

Considering:

a) The 8-2 thrashing on the weekend
b) Staj feeling he's got a point to prove and,
c) The general record of teams in their first game under a new manager...

I reckon there's a fair chance CCM may snag win #2 this weekend. And it couldn't happen against a more deserving bunch. It would effectively end their finals defence- the same way CCM ended their GF defence the last time around in '08...

I joked that Staj would bring Kerr with him earlier, but I am happy here’s come in. But mostly bitter sweet.
The caretaker part is slightly annoying but I also understand it. The part I understand most is that he’s very comfortable working in a short amount of time with the Matilda’s. And he’s a proven high quality football coach and this is designed as an injection of life into the club. I’m not overly concerned that he’s never coached men. My biggest concerns are why only for the last 6 weeks? Was it his choice as he has bigger aspirations? Or if it was the clubs choice?, who are we waiting for to be available? Why not trust Staj as the permanent man? And what about the retention of our key players now? Who’s going to be making the moves there? Phelan? The bloke that has his mind firmly on Man Utd? Must definitely be waiting till the end of the season when they’ll all be signed up else where.

Also, like the last 8-2 embarrassment - any players seen smiling, laughing or joking after the game on saturday can be shown the door immediately.
