Round 13 v City

So much better tonight and we were the better side. We did make far too many errors and stupidly pulling shirts for yellow cards shows our discipline is not 100% yet.
But our shape was way better and we battled well. Middy would have been happy that we had some structure to our lines.

I like to see the game on TV to give a proper scorecard but i'll give one now and maybe amend after watching a replay.

Kennedy 8. 3 top draws saves to keep us in the match. Needs to own his box a bit more. 1pt
McGing 7.5. Some very good moments overall. Probably his best game in the last season and a half.
O'Neill 7.5. Apart from one howler was very good.
Aspro 8.5. Quality that we needed. 2pts
Melling 6.5 Some great tackling and cover tackling to go with the wayward passing. Better.
Pain 7.5. Dangerous player. Good game.
Tommy 8.5 Sublime at times. Exactly the quality we have been missing in the middle. MOM
Hoole 6. Not as bad as some are saying. Some good moments.
Millar 7.5. Excellent again. His engine needs work and was gone at 60mins again but should be signed to a new deal now.
Oar 7. I like him as a 10. Get him fit and he will prosper.
Matty 7. A real captains knock. A handful all night.

I thought all the subs did well.

I also thought Gillette was as corrupt as you can be without actually counting the money on the pitch. Simply one eyed and disgraceful.

I could see this win coming but it was still nerve wracking.

I saw Style Café and he gave me a hug like we just won the GF.

Well done to the Coaching staff and players.

Been on the road most of the week and drove the best part of 600kms today to be at the game tonight but boy it was worth it!

The boys finally got just reward for their efforts tonight but now they need to back that up on Sunday and turn over the Roar. The effort tonight after the travel and exertions on Saturday was nothing short of amazing, so hats off to them all.

Whilst we should perhaps have been two or three up at the break, the guys showed enormous courage not to wilt when $ity equalised and then go on to find a winner, which bodes well for the remainder of the season.

Whilst this is only one result, that will be quickly forgotten if the boys can’t back it up, we should all celebrate finally getting the monkey off our collective backs.

Mick can you remind me when he played a better game for us?

Two weeks ago against Sydney for a start and even our last City game. Don’t make me go through the abomination that was last season but I am certain there were many better than his mistake ridden game tonight.

How can three saves make it your best game for the club? Two were at very saveable hip height, for which one of those he should have claimed the cross.

Fox Sports had
3. Tom
2. McGing
1. Kennedy

The fact that a rocket hit Kennedy’s hands and stayed out of the goal is a miracle

Told ya we would win this one!
So fitting for Matty to score the winner, also his 50th. He put his heart into this game. So happy that happened in front of a home crowd.
What I liked about that first goal - we had attacked that way a few times already, seems like part of the game plan. Tom H was awesome.
We didn't do what we did the last few weeks which was panic when we were winning - or panic once we conceded one. We kept cool heads and kept plugging away at it. We had a different mindset last night.

City had their tactics spot on (attack O'Neill and close down Simon) they just werent able to execute and we should have been home and hosed before Kennedy let Wales score.
Hoole is a parody of a footballer and will always look to shirk responsibility or do no work.
The boys are horribly unfit and fell in a hole at about 65 minutes and after Kennedys gift, i thought we were gone.

Yeah that was my big impression - we're so unfit. Incredible.

It really coincided with Tommy H losing his intensity through lack of match fitness. This allowed Bratten to finally emerge from his shackles and start to dominate the midfield. Tommy was obviously cramping and couldn't run yet Mulvey kept him on the park ten minutes too long running the risk of injury.

Tactically we also did a great job in shutting Bratten down. He is what makes the team tick and Hiariej and Melling were all over him.

Agreed. Some people earlier on this thread criticising Mulvey for taking off Tom but it was clear to anyone at the game he was gone and needed to be subbed. While Melling's ball distribution (or lack thereof) was poor I thought he did a great job keeping the city playmakers in check.
