Round 13 v City

Credit definitely needs to be given to Kennedy on this one. We all speak about how bad he is for this level, because well... he is. He could’ve done better on the corner.

But he made 3 HUGE saves to keep us alive tonight.

Matty was off the pace tonight. I’m not a religious man. But I believe the football gods smiled on us tonight, because Matty butchered practically every chance he got and it was an average penalty and it wasn’t clean contact on the rebound as he slipped, but it still went in.

Agree Kennedy was excellent tonight and probably got my MOM award. I can't agree re Simon, apart from the poor header in the 1st half he was good and unsettled City all night.

In terms of individual performance Hiairiej streets ahead of the rest of the players, but over the 90 minutes Kennedy withstood plenty, surprised he didn't pick up any Tobin poins.

You are kidding me. Totally at fault for the goal and his distribution was woeful. Nearly conceded a penalty through lack of pace and should have come out for at least five crosses and set pieces.

And those three saves should be expected from an A-League standard keeper.

Way too harsh Mick.
1. Its Kennedy
2. I haven't seen any Mariners keeper make 3 excellent saves in one match since Reddy left.

Yes he was definitely at fault for the goal bit I think you are letting other people's negativity cloud your good judgement.

O'Neill a CB? I don't think so.

Apologies to the poster that picked O'Neill as a CB. He was very good there and you were smart to see it.

However we need him alongside Tommy in the middle and hopefully a top line CB alongside Aspro and suddenly we are more formidable.

Definitely not harsh. Sat with Forum Phoenix and a first grade PL coach and we counted the number of times he didn’t come for a cross, or passed poorly, or kicked poorly, or should have been out quicker to the ball.

Any person who lets Lachie Wales out jump you inside the six yard box is not worthy of MOM. We were 1-0 up and that awful mistake could have easily cost us the game.

Great stuff.:pirashoot::grouphug::overheadl:

The crowd on the way out was buzzing. People laughing and smiling - been so long since I’ve seen that. Happy randoms engaging you in conversations on the walk back to the car... finally.

Kennedy, credit to some of his shot stopping, that’s always been legitimately in his kit bag, 3 good, important saves tonight. But... he hesitates and easily could have given a pen away. And just does not come for anything in the air. Interestingly aftet he made his best save, not a single player went and slapped his hand etc...maybe just too focused, but could be telling.

McGing had a great game.

Aspropotamitis is the best CB we’ve had in a good while.

Oneil was immense at LB, I actually think that was his best game for us.

Millar was not at his best tonight but his assist was brilliant.

Melling - great ball winning, hard working, fighting shift... if only there was a rule that each team had one player who was not allowed to pass.

Tom... cut above. Best on park till his legs went and MM was far too slow to sub him. Brattan started running the show and Tommy who has given everything at risk of an injury. On his haunches three times. Clearly looking to the bench. We got away with it. But only just. I hope he can recover for Roar now and if he does he doesn’t pull up lame because he was over worked in this game.

Oar, good shift, more fitness and he’s only going to get better and be of more value.

Pain, another strong game, could have made a few wiser decisions, but can’t complain about a really well taken goal and the pressure he put on City with his runs all night.

Hoole... definitely our weakest. I ‘think’ he’s trying. But he lacks concentration. Makes him late to read anything or challenge and can’t track players even IF he wants too. We need better in his position.

Matty played a terrific game. Should have had several calls go his way but as Mariner Mick and I were saying at the game, he also has to milk those fouls at times and play smart.

Murray should have done better on his chance but otherwise linked really well, made good runs and caused problems.

Shamwow and weemac were ok in the minutes they had. Be nice to have considerably stronger players coming off the bench though tbh.

Mulvey, imo almost lost the game when he failed to respond to city’s fresh leg subs and growing midfield dominance. But big credit to him for Aiden at LB, for inspiring a clearly whole hearted performance from the players and some definite improvements in our structure and tactics.

Was also great to meet you tonight Mick, have some laughs and lose a few fingernails. Buy you a beer next time!

You get an out here because he played left back.

That’s exactly what I saw.
